Section 8 FLU PPM Calibration The FLU PPM Calibration application allows users to create fluorescence calibration information for the Advanced Sensors Analyser, as shown in figure 8.1. The user must have done a calibration on the Advanced Sensors Analyser and have obtained values for PPM and raw fluorescence. Figure 8.1. FLU PPM Calibration Application 8.1 Entering Data Data for the calibration enter as shown in figure 8.2 Figure 8.2. Calibration Data Entry Tel: +44 (0) Page 56 of 69

8.2 Setting Curves Once the data has been entered, up to four data curves can be applied to the data. The idea is that one curve may not fit all the data points, so by applying several curves the Analysers response to changing PPM can be better modelled. Simple Rules 1. Start with all the data points marked with Curve 1. Figure 8.3. Calibration fit with just one Curve Fit 2. If a number of data points are outside the fitted line as shown in figure 8.3 then addition curves need to be applied 3. Remove all Curve 1 Checks (tick boxes). Start with the lowest PPM Value and move up until the points start to move away from the fit as shown in figure 8.4. It is important that you start with Curve 1, then 2 and then 3 etc otherwise the calibration data will be incorrect. Tel: +44 (0) Page 57 of 69

(a) Figure 8.4. Calibration curve (a) first four points fitting and (b) first five points (b) 4. Start with the next Curve and the last curves final point (the last curves highest PPM point). That is for the example in figure 8.5 the highest PPM Curve 1 point should be checked with the lowest Curve 2 point Tel: +44 (0) Page 58 of 69

Figure 8.5. Showing that the points where curves overlap must contain two checks 5. Once all data points have an associated with a curve, the calibration data can be obtained for the system 8.3 Calibration Results The calibration results panel shown in figure 8.6 gives the following: Calibration Parameters A,B, C The parameters used to calculate the PPM based on the equation shown below for each curve. Rsquared Rsquared the coefficient of determination is used to indicate how well the data has fitted to the curve. The closer to a value of 1 the better the fit. Threshold Threshold gives the point in terms of fluorescence when the software will switch from using one curve to another. Figure 8.6. Calibration Results Panel Tel: +44 (0) Page 59 of 69

8.4 Save Calibration File Menu Option By clicking on the Save Calibration Menu option a file is saved with the calibration data in csv format. It is important that this file is not loaded onto the analyser as it is missing some data that belongs to oil type that has been calibrated, for example the Out of range value will be different than the default given in the file. The user must copy just the calibration parameters and the thresholds on to the analyser directly. Figure 8.7. Calibration File 8.5 Save Results to PDF By clicking on the Save Results to PDF a report is generated with all the calibration data included. 8.6 Graph Mouse Options Hold Left Mouse Button on the Chart Allows the users to view the data point of the particular series as seen in figure 8.8.
