HP SMI-S Tape Provider See the HP StoreEver SMI-S Tape Provider Release Notes at Installation instructions If upgrading your Interface Manager from an I231 or lower release, ensure that the FTP server on the Interface Manager is clear of all extra files. CAUTION: intervention. Failure to clear these files may result in damage to the library and the need for service 1. If you have a firewall that prevents FTP access, disable the firewall. 2. Use FTP to connect to the Interface Manager: 1. Open a command shell on any PC connected to the LAN. 2. Enter the command ftp ipaddress, where ipaddress is the IP address of the Interface Manager card. 3. Log in with the user name ftp and no password. 3. Run del <filename> for each file to delete. CAUTION: HP recommends that an HP Service engineer perform any upgrade of your Interface Manager from an I2XX or lower release. The HP Service engineer will upgrade to version I232 using CVTL and the corresponding firmware bundle using the ESL c or EML c engineering document using CVTL After the library is an I232 and the corresponding bundles, Command View TL can be updated to The library can then be downloaded to I274. I232 and I240 cannot be upgraded with Command View TL and above. Installation instructions 7

Use advisory ESL-e c or EML c to upgrade directly to I232 and CVTL from any revision less than I232. Then, perform the upgrade to I270 using CVTL CAUTION: Customers upgrading from HP StorageWorks ESL E-Series library firmware 6.20 to 6.22 or higher via Interface Manager or Command View TL in an HP StorageWorks ESL E-Series library will encounter the following message: Interface Manager (IM) unable to verify whether firmware update completed or not, please check the device. Wait until the library Operator Control Panel indicates the upgrade is complete. This will take about 20 minutes. The upgrade will complete with no issues. This error will not occur once the firmware is fully installed in the library. Failure to wait may result in damage to the library and the need for service intervention. CAUTION: ESL E-Series libraries that have had the cabinet controller or cabinet controller smart media/daughter board replaced without having library defaults reset afterwards, must restore library defaults prior to upgrading to 7.X or higher firmware (first included in the 2.4 or higher firmware bundle). If the history of the library is unknown, it is recommended that library defaults be reset prior to loading 7.0 to be safe. Library defaults are different than restoring the Interface Manager defaults; restoring library defaults must be done from the front panel (Operator Control Panel) of the library in the Setup menu. CAUTION: Customers upgrading from HP EML libraries from below 1200 need to go to 1200 first. Secondly if the firmware is below 1407 then they need to upgrade to 1407 next. Then they can upgrade to the latest firmware. EML libraries might not show the latest revision is loaded until the IFC is also rebooted if no host commands were sent to the library after the upgrade. This configuration data includes, but is not limited to: Management Station information Library settings Support contact information Interface Manager settings Partition settings (if configured) Secure Manager settings (if configured) Network settings SNMP settings License settings Migrations are increasingly complicated and HP strongly recommends that any migration be performed by an HP Service engineer using ESL c and EML c migration documents. All migrations to the I270 and code bundle must be preceded by upgrade to the I232 and code bundle (migration instructions are included in the readme file for I232). CAUTION: Upgrading to 2.x is not supported for ESL9000 libraries. These libraries can be fully managed using Command View for Tape Libraries 2.x. but will not accept the I200 or higher Interface Manager code. ESL9000 libraries will work only with version I182 Interface Manager code and CVTL Installing the upgrade Install the Command View for Tape Libraries upgrade CAUTION: Command View TL and later cannot upgrade any libraries with i240 or older Interface Manager firmware. Upgrade to or , then install the bundle, and then install Command View TL to Command View can only be upgraded from , and Command View can only be upgraded from and 3.6 patch 1. 8 Installation instructions

NOTE: HP Command View for Tape Libraries and later uses Adobe Flash Player. If you have an Internet connection from the Command View TL server, to use it to download flash player with an administrator account. Do not upgrade to Command View Tape Library or later if you can not get flash player to install; instead, remain at the revisions. To install the software, first upgrade your management station to the latest Command View for Tape Libraries release. Upgrading the Interface Manager to any I270 or later release will only work with Command View for Tape Libraries or later. If you are upgrading from a Command View TL version earlier than (or Command View ESL prior to version 1.5), follow this upgrade path: 2.32 or to to to Command View TL upgrade is supported from versions or 3.6 Patch 1 only. All previous settings (database, device list, support tickets, proxy settings and so forth) are migrated during the upgrade. Install the Interface Manager I274 release and firmware bundle (EML and ESL E-Series Libraries) NOTE: You must be at the I232 and 2.32 firmware bundle or higher before proceeding with the upgrades to the I274 and bundle. If at a revision lower than I232 or 2.32 firmware bundle first migrate to I232 and 2.32 firmware bundle to proceed. You must be at i250 or above to download with Command View TL or later. Upgrades to are only supported from Command View TL , and upgrades to are only supported from Command View TL or 3.6 patch 1. NOTE: If the EML library is below 1200 download 1200 first. Then if the EML library is below 1407 download 1407 first. Otherwise the RLC might need to be replaced. 1. Save the existing configuration to a safe location before performing any Interface Manager upgrade. 2. Download and unpack the EML or ESL E-Series firmware bundle and Interface Manager firmware I274 to the Command View for Tape Libraries client (for example, the desktop or laptop). Verify that the library, interface controller, drive (optional), and the Interface Manager firmware files are downloaded. 3. If your Interface Manager is at I232 or later, do not perform this step. Continue at the next step. This step tests the FTP session, and verifies that it can locate the files residing in the Interface Manager that need to be deleted. a. Create a text file with Notepad or WordPad and save it at test.txt. b. FTP to the Interface Manager as anonymous with no password. c. Enter put test.txt or copy the test.txt file to the Interface Manager. d. The ls, nlist, or dir command should indicate thattest.txt was just uploaded. If test.txt is not seen, then disable the firewall. FTP commands may not work correctly with certain firewalls (for example, Symantec Endpoint in Windows XP). e. Execute an ls, nlist, or dir command to verify that the directory does not have any entries. If it does, use the del <filename> command until all other files are removed. This will free up compact flash (CF) memory used by support tickets or saved configurations. If there is not enough CF memory, the Interface Manager migration might fail. NOTE: If you cannot see test.txt, stop downloading at this point or have a compact flash ready in case the download fails. 4. Use Command View for Tape Libraries to update the Interface Manager firmware. Follow the upgrade instructions to migrate directly to I274. Installation instructions 9

5. Use Command View for Tape Libraries to upgrade: to firmware for the 2GB Fibre Channel Interface Controllers to firmware for the 4Gb Fibre Channel Interface Controllers 6. Use Command View for Tape Libraries to upgrade ESL G3, ESL E-Series, EML E-Series library firmware. If the EML E-Series is below 1200, upgrade to If the EML E-Series library is below 1407, upgrade to The EML library firmware can now be update to the newer firmware. 7. Verify that all of the drives are empty. 8. Upgrade the drive firmware, if the drive firmware in the bundle is newer than the drive firmware that is in your drives. 9. Save the new configuration to a safe location after performing any Interface Manager upgrade. Downgrading to previous releases Downgrading your Interface Manager to a previous release requires some special considerations: IMPORTANT: Remove any hardware that is not supported by the firmware release you are downgrading to. Failure to do so can cause the library to become inoperable. Multiple versions of the Command View for Tape Libraries software cannot be installed on the same computer at the same time. To use an older release of Command View for Tape Libraries, uninstall the current version before installing the older version. After performing the downgrade, you will need to restore system defaults through the restore system defaultscommand in the command line interface or through the Restore Factory Defaults page on the Support tab in Command View for Tape Libraries. CAUTION: All of your custom configuration information will be lost. If you have previously saved a configuration at the older release, you can easily restore this configuration after you have downgraded your Interface Manager through the restore system configcommand in the command line interface or through the Save / Restore page on the Configuration tab in Command View for Tape Libraries. Upgraded to Apache server Fixed an issue that occurs in multiple session instances where an added host is edited in one session causing the host to be shifted in the other session. Fixes in Interface Manager firmware version I274 Previous Version Fixes 15

Version Rebooting the Interface Manager after turning the auto support ticket feature on or off from the CLI is no longer required. The CLI session is no longer terminated if out-of-range port numbers are given for the CLI command Set Interface Hostport. An error message is now displayed. Fixed an issue so that It is now possible to set IPV6 destinations for SNMP traps. This can be done through the CLI command Set Net Snmptrap or through the CVTL GUI with the SNMP Alerts settings Removed the site command from the CLI command show system contact, since it was using the same database entry as the location command. Other parts of the CLI only have the location command. Fixed an issue where library power-on SCSI Unit Attentions are no longer recorded in library support tickets (ALM 220). Fixed an issue so that It is now possible to specify the name of the configuration file when performing a Restore System Config command from the CLI. Fixed an issue so that if a drive reboot fails during a Restore Defaults the Interface Manager will still be rebooted Fixed an issue where Show Drive Info IP now correctly displays drive numbers for drive numbers 10 and above. Modified the support ticket code for LTO 6 drives to use the drive s snapshot feature, rather than individual SCSI commands Fixes in Interface Manager firmware version I273 Updated the SNMP server to a much newer version. This fixes all known SNMP-related memory leaks. To reduce memory consumption, the SNMP log file /var/log/snmpd.log is no longer created. When updating to I273 firmware and later, if the files /var/log/snmpd.log and/or lastlog.log are present, they will be automatically removed. Fixed issue where the Interface Controllers FRU Wizard would not always process all new Interface Controllers, and could unexpectedly move the SIPP master. Fixed the drive sort order for the Show Host Access CLI command. Changed the reporting process when errors occur during encryption enrollment to a SKM/ESKM. Now, if there is any error, the status will show that encryption is not enabled. Fixed an issue where EML libraries could turn on Ethernet Broadcasting after a Restore System Defaults. If custom LUN mappings are selected when configuring host access, and an Interface Controllers is started with a LUN number near 127, auto-populated LUNs will wrap to zero after reaching 127. Fixed an issue where if a directory in the Interface Manager that normally contains optional scripts becomes corrupted, the directory will automatically be cleaned up when an Interface Manager code update is performed. Fixed the column alignment when running the CLI command show mgmt log event. Version Fixed an issue where licenses could show up in the Un-managed Licenses section of the License Key Summary tab. Generated support ticket details can now be viewed in the browser. Fixes in Interface Manager firmware version I Previous Version Fixes

Fixes for numerous CLI formatting errors. Fixed a potential issue where a Failed to Migrate Drive error could be reported when using the Drive Update Wizard to migrate a LTO1, LTO2, or LTO3 drive to a LTO4 or LTO5 drive. The error was most likely to occur on a partitioned library. Corrected handling of the restore config operation. Now, a config file created up to two major revisions prior to the current firmware can be restored. Fixed an issue where collecting a support ticket from an LTO3 drive could result in a blank ticket. Fixed an issue so that it is no longer possible to assign xxx IP addresses to EML libraries; this IP address range is not compatible with hardware in an EML library. Fixed an issue so it is no longer possible to set the IP broadcast address on EML libraries. Fixed an issue where switching between IPV6 and IPV4 in a single operation, on an EML library, the OCP would not show the IPV4 address. When a SNMP Trap String is modified in the CVTL GUI, the new Trap String now takes effect immediately. SNMP read requests to unsupported MIB identifiers no longer cause the SNMP log file to grow. SNMP reads of the standard system MIB now return correct values for host name, system location, and contact. The CLI command Show Library Topology now reports correct drive information. ESL libraries will now automatically trigger cleaning tape tickets. ESL and EML event codes are now sent as SNMP Traps, for Remote Support. When performing a manual migration from a SKM encryption server to an eskm encryption server, performing a Validate SKM Connectivity operation will update the displayed key manager type. Version Version Command View TL no longer calculates read margins on small transfer sizes because the data is not accurate. Command View TL now requires Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.6.0, Update 24, also known as 6.0. The TapeAssure Overview page now shows the following message for libraries that are I250 or lower: The libraries need a firmware upgrade to be TapeAssure compatible... Fixed an issue on the Command View TL Launcher where the ESL Library had an EML name and serial number. Fixed an issue on the Tape Properties page where the Drive Serial Number was labeled as the Library Serial Number. Fixed a case when Command View TL was not displaying drive support tickets if a cleaning tape was in the drive. On rare occurrences, connectivity to LTO4 or LTO5 drives could be lost following a reboot of the Interface Manager, library, or the individual drive. This loss of connectivity caused the drives to have red health status. This item is fixed. In Command View TL version 2.6, Interface Controller replacements were not correctly detected and acted upon. The workaround at that time was to restore defaults on the Interface Manager and setup the library again. This item is fixed. Previous Version Fixes 17

After a drive had been physically replaced, the maps from the old drive would not get moved to the new drive. This would result in the user having to clear all the drives and remap all hosts. This item is fixed. The Interface Manager now flags drives that are the wrong type (for example, EML drive in an ESL E-Series library). Stale sessions would cause connectivity and memory issues. Stale sessions are now cleared more often. The red light on the Interface Manager card will now blink 5 times in 6 seconds if the flash is read-only and needs to be replaced. The status of the Interface Manager will be set to red, in both the command line interface and the user interface, with a description that the flash is read-only and that it needs to be replaced. Also, the status displays the part number. The red Interface Manager status and description will show up in the show lib status or show mgmt status commands on the command line interface. In the user interface, the health status for the Interface Manager will also show the red Interface Manager. When the connection between the Interface Manager and the Library was broken, the library clock could not be set and the library could not reach a ready (green) state. This item is fixed. Previously, rebooting the Interface Manager resulted in several failed connections listed in the Interface Manager log due to the inability to find a device management path. This item is fixed. In some situations, proactive support tickets would not populate in the TapeAssure database on an ELS E-Series library. This item is fixed. After replacing the robot in an EML, firmware downloaded to the library would fail. This issue was due to incorrect certificates allowing communication between the Interface Manager and the robot. This item is fixed. Version In the address fields, the dash ( ) was not a valid character. This item has been fixed. On the Tape Properties screen, the drive serial number was labeled as Library SN. This item has been fixed. If you are using Netbackup or Backup Exec, tape barcode information did not parse into the TapeAssure data base. This item has been fixed. Version Restoring saved configuration fails while synchronizing access control groups In libraries containing LTO-4 drives, there was the potential that the management path was lost to one or more drives during a restore configuration operation. The final error message indicated that the operation failed when synchronizing access control groups. This item has been fixed. Secure Manager synchronization fails when missing devices are present Due to residual interface controller devices in the Interface Manager s internal database, a failure could occur during Secure Manager synchronization. The origin of the problem occurred when an interface controller was physically removed from the library or unplugged, and the interface manager had not been reset to defaults. This item has been fixed. Direct attach port mode for interface controller(s) not connecting When an interface controller channel host ports were configured to use a Direct Attach connection, host bus adapters failed to connect to the interface controller. The issue has been fixed in the interface controller firmware (5.9.63). Interface controller returning more data than requested in CDB The Interface Controller could send all data to a host for log page requests, even though the host only requested 256 bytes. This item has been fixed. 18 Previous Version Fixes

Restoring a previously saved configuration can fail When restoring a previously saved Interface Manager configuration, a failure could occur when restoring the LTO4 drive port settings. This item has been fixed. After setting factory defaults via the Operator Control Panel, drives do not login to McData switch Only ESL E-Series libraries are affected by this behavior. The fix has been implemented in 7.5 ESL E-Series library firmware. Turning encryption off times out Disabling encryption times out in the Command View TL user interface in certain library configurations with 24 or more drives. The operation timed out, however, the operation was successful. This item has been fixed. Restoring Interface Manager configuration fails If media is loaded in drives during a restore configuration operation, it could fail the operation while the drive(s) were being rebooted due to a timeout. There are now longer timeouts during the drive reboot phase of the restore configuration operation. Command View for Tape Libraries System Health status reports red/yellow while all sub-components report green During a library reboot or Interface Manager reboot, the drive health status was not being reset to an initializing state. There was the potential in some libraries that the overall System Health did not correctly reflect the health of its sub-components. This item has been fixed. Large drive support ticket requests failing There was the potential for a failure on larger libraries when the user pulled a support ticket for all of the drives in the library. One or more of the generated support tickets were being deleted before the management station could retrieve the file. This item has been fixed. Interface Manager firmware failed to download The web server running on the Interface manager would log errors to a set of files on the local file system in rare circumstances. The logs would grow until all space was filled up on the local disk, thus causing a firmware download failure. In version I260, these files are zeroed before the downloads start. User allowed to pull support tickets on unavailable drives which causes failure The command line interface was not handling support ticket failures and always assumed success despite an unavailable management path. This item has been fixed. TapeAssure generated alerts appear to be duplicates TapeAssure generated alerts in the Command View for Tape Libraries alert log could have the same exact timestamp for numerous alerts which made the alerts appear like duplicates. This behavior was a display issue, and has been fixed. Command line interface-generated library support tickets fail When running the command line interface command save library ltt, the operation times out even though the Interface Manager is still processing the request. This item has been fixed. Incorrect error message when exporting a TapeAssure.csv file If there was no filename entered when selecting the destination location for an exported *.csv file, a dialog was presented to the user with a title of No File Selected, with contents Please select a configuration file to restore". This item has been fixed. TapeAssure is generating temperature alerts for blank entries Some proactively retrieved support tickets from drives had blank entries for the drive temperature or tape temperature which were unnecessarily generating Current temperature has exceeded... and Maximum temperature has exceeded... alerts. This item has been fixed. Concurrent LTO4 drive firmware downloads fail Downloading firmware to 12 or more LTO4 drives concurrently could result in a download failure to one or more of the selected drives. This item has been fixed. SNMP configuration not being successfully saved/restored The SNMP configuration settings were not being saved in the Interface Manager saved configuration file. Since the settings were not being saved, they were not restored during a restore configuration operation. This item has been fixed. Previous Version Fixes 19

Secure Manager feature remains green despite disconnecting a drive If a drive fibre cable is disconnected from an interface controller, Command View for Tape Libraries was not detecting that the management path had been lost. This item has been fixed. Restoring a 2.32 saved configuration in 2.50 times out Due to an inter-process communication failure within the Interface Manager, restoring a previously saved configuration could timeout. This item has been fixed. Reboot drive dialog not being updated during drive reboot When rebooting an LTO4 drive from the Command View TL user interface, the text and progress meter within the reboot dialog box never change. However, the drive did successfully reboot. This item has been fixed. Command View for Tape Libraries service unexpectedly restarting The Command View for Tape Libraries service might restart on a management station if the host was being starved for CPU resources. This item has been fixed. "No Policy Found" error after fixing policy on SKM After fixing a bad policy name on an SKM, the library using that policy still reported No Policy Found for partition after running an SKM connectivity check. This item has been fixed. Postgre database failed to install during Command View for Tape Libraries installation If the host where Command View for Tape Libraries was being installed already had a postgre database installed, and a different user has installed the postgre database, then the Command View for Tape Libraries installation could fail. This item has been fixed. Restoring system defaults does not reset SNMP configuration SNMP settings could be retained if the Interface Manager was restored to factory defaults, even if the Retain SNMP Settings option was not selected. This item has been fixed. MSL libraries will not add to the Command View for Tape Libraries launcher if https is enabled If https was enabled on an MSL library, then the MSL library could not be added to the Command View for Tape Libraries launcher. This item has been fixed. TapeAssure stops receiving support tickets after 5 failures In the Interface Manager could not communicate with tape drives on the internal network, TapeAssure data collection would stop until the Interface Manager was rebooted. This item has been fixed. Uninstalling Command View for Tape Libraries deletes folder if non-default destination folder is used If Command View for Tape Libraries is installed into a folder other than the default destination folder it would delete that folder and all of its contents when it was uninstalled. This item has been fixed. Creating new host(s) via command line interface does not inherit custom map settings When using Command View for Tape Libraries with a Basic Secure Manager license and a custom map had been defined, then creating new hosts with the command line interface would not inherit the custom map settings. This did not apply to Advanced Secure Manager licenses. This item has been fixed. Blank entry for field causes SKM enrollment hang Blank fields in the SKM CA certificate caused SKM enrollment process to hang at last step of the wizard in Command View for Tape Libraries. This item has been fixed. Upgrade of Command View for Tape Libraries from C: drive to non C: drive fails to start Command View for Tape Libraries service Assuming that Command View for Tape Libraries had been installed to its default location on the C: drive, if Command View for Tape Libraries was upgraded and a new location was selected for the upgrade, an installation failure could occur. This item has been fixed. Reboot of 4 Gbps Interface controllers can potentially timeout The default timeout of 5 minutes waiting for 4 Gbps interface controller cards could be too short. The default timeout has been increased. Support ticket viewer not displaying some headings Certain sub-sections of a support ticket did not have a title when viewing the ticket with the support ticket viewer. This item has been fixed. 20 Previous Version Fixes

SNMP trap IP addresses wrong on ESL E Series Tape Libraries All IP address on the traps were or instead of the Public address of the library. In I260 this has changed to the public IP address. SNMP management information base (MIB) command system.sysdescr.0 returning value of Linux instead of correct library type This caused issues during auto discover of devices. In I260 this command is set to return the library type instead. Service login has issues when the operation needs to create a new directory Some of the debugging tools were failing when the service login was used. This item has been fixed. Non-HP tape drives, or drives with the wrong Hardware Personality were not identified in Command View for Tape Libraries A new alert will be added to the alert log to indicate that a drive with the wrong Hardware Personality, shown in the drive Properties dialog box, is in the library so that it can be removed. Drive properties does not display the Hardware Personality type or the firmware revision of a drive The drive properties window did not display the Hardware Personality type or the firmware revision of the drive. This item has been fixed. Interface Manager downloads might hang indefinitely and continue to hang even after a reboot If the Interface Manager flash had gone to a read only state it could get stuck in this condition until the flash was replaced. In this situation, the download no longer hangs, but the flash still must be replaced. Dual networked hosts sometimes have operation timeout failures Firmware has been modified to avoid timeout problems in this situation. Out Of Memory errors in the dmesg section of the Interface Manager support ticket If the Interface Manager was shutting down application processes, out-of-memory errors were recorded in the dmesg section of the Interface Manager support ticket. This item has been fixed. Sync SecureManager fails with the IP address not found The command line interface command 'sync securemanager' fails with the IP address not found. This item has been fixed. Command View for Tape Libraries version 2.5 has a dependency on a Windows local user account A dependency on a local user account for the TapeAssure feature has been removed. The user account was required for Command View for Tape Libraries , but is not required for version Command View for Tape Libraries service monitor was failing to start or was being restarted in the middle of operations If the server hosting Command View for Tape Libraries experienced heavy network traffic from other applications, the Command View for Tape Libraries service monitor would assume the service was stopped and restart it. If this happened during an operational command (for example, saving a configuration or moving media) the operation command would timeout. The timeout interval for startup and monitoring of the Command View for Tape Libraries service monitor and the Command View Java runtime memory are increased in this release. For EML E-Series Tape Libraries, show lib cli does not work after replacement of the library Robotics Controller This item has been fixed. Version Drive clean request not reported in Command View for Tape Libraries Alert Log When a tape drive needs to be cleaned, this status now displays with the drive health status on the Status page of the Command View TL user interface. Inventory in user interfaces not refreshed after accessing load port or library front door The library inventory presented by either the Command View TL user interface or the Interface Manager command line interface is now updated whenever a load port or library front door is accessed.
