6 Introduction Introduction This section provides an overview of the SV-16. What is the SV-16 The SV 16 is a compact-sized network security appliance that comes preloaded with Genetec security software, and Windows Embedded Standard 7. The SV-16 is for small-scale, single server installations, and can support both cameras and access control readers. The SV-16 supports the following configurations: Video only. With Omnicast: Up to 16 cameras at 2 Mbps, and 4 streams being redirected at 2 Mbps. With Security Center: Up to 8 cameras at 2 Mbps, and 4 streams being redirected at 2 Mbps. IMPORTANT To run the SV-16 at full capacity, you ll need to turn off software motion detection. Use unit based motion detection instead. The IP cameras or encoders must be connected to the SV-16 through an IP network using a network switch. NOTE On average, a camera configured at 4CIF 30 fps in H.264 will have a bit rate of 1 Mbps. The camera connections can either be a mix of IP cameras, or analog cameras connected to IP encoders. Access control only. Up to 16 access control readers using Security Center. Video and access control. Up to 8 cameras at 2 Mbps, and 8 access control readers using Security Center. You can deploy SV 16 in the following ways: Remote system that is part of a Security Center or Omnicast Federation. Remote Archiver that is part of a Security Center or Omnicast system. (Omnicast only) Stand-alone mini Unified Security Appliance. NOTE The SV 16 cannot run Security Center Client. If you are using the SV 16 with Security Center, you need to install the client applications on another computer. See Installing Security Center client applications on a remote computer on page EN V1.7(1)

7 Introduction About the SV-16 image version 1.7 This section describes the SV-16 image version 1.7. Software included SV-16 image version 1.7 comes with Omnicast 4.8 SR1 and Security Center 5.1 SR1 software pre-installed. You can choose which software to use with the SV-16. Limitations SV-16 image version 1.7 includes the following limitations. Limitation Description The SV-16 display adaptor does not send a signal to monitors using analog connections. The signal from the SV-16 display adaptor is digital and cannot be interpreted by an analog connection. For example, you cannot use DVI to VGA adaptors. Workaround: Use a digital connection. About software licenses SV 16 licenses are based on the number of cameras and access control readers you want to connect to Omnicast or Security Center. Your license depends on how you want to use the appliance. What is included in the SV-16 kit The SV-16 kit contains the following: SV 16 computer Security Center and Omnicast, and Windows Embedded Standard 7 installed. Stereo line-out, line-in/mic b/g The wireless network card is disabled by default. 2 x1000base T RJ45 Eth2 port is the default port used by Security Center and Omnicast. Eth1 can be used to connect to cameras or clients on another network. Keep product packaging It is best practice to keep the product packaging in case you have to return the product. Hardware requirements To use the SV-16, you need the following items: Ethernet connection Display monitor with a DVI or HDMI input and DVI or HDMI cable. USB keyboard USB mouse 5 EN V1.7(1)

11 Introduction Site requirements Prepare the site as follows: Provide adequate ventilation. The SV-16 does not have a fan. Heat dispersion is managed by the aluminum enclosure. CAUTION If you are using multiple SV-16 units, do not place them on top of one another. Fasten rubber feet. To prevent the SV-16 from sliding or scratching the surface it s mounted on, four adhesive rubber feet are provided in your kit. Place one rubber foot in each corner of the underside of the unit. Clear space in front of the SV-16. The power button on the SV-16 is very sensitive. To prevent the SV-16 from accidentally turning off, make sure nothing is touching, or in front of the power button. 12 Getting started Getting started This section contains the basic procedures to get started using the SV-16. For more information about using Security Center or Omnicast, see Product documentation on page iii. Connect the SV-16 1 Connect your HDMI monitor to the SV-16 DVI connector. If required, use the HDMI to DVI adapter. If it is not turned on, then turn on the monitor. Note The SV-16 is not compatible with DVI to VGA adaptors. 2 Connect the keyboard and mouse to the two USB A ports. 3 (Optional) Connect your speakers to the S/PDIF line-out jack. 4 Plug your Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port 2 (Eth2). See Back panel connections on page 5. 5 (Optional) Mount the Wi-Fi antenna on the WLAN connector and turn it clockwise until the antenna is firmly attached. 6 Insert the DC plug into the DC power jack. Secure the plug with the adjacent screw. 7 Connect the power supply to the AC cord and plug the cord into an AC outlet. When the SV-16 starts up the Power LED will light up. Note The SV-16 will automatically turn on when connected to a power source. Select software product You can only run one software product at a time. Once the SV-16 starts, you must activate Security Center or Omnicast applications from the Genetec Product Selector, depending on your license. Until you select a software product, the Product Selector automatically opens every time you turn on the SV-16. NOTE You cannot log on to the server until you activate one product type. 1 From the Windows desktop, select your keyboard language, click the Language button on the top left corner of the screen. The default keyboard language is English. To switch to French, click the Language button and select French (France). 7 EN V1.7(1)

13 Getting started 2 In the Genetec Product Selector that is open on your computer, click Enable under the product type you want to enable (Security Center or Omnicast). Once the product is enabled, it says Currently enabled under the product type. 3 To select a different product: a On your desktop, click the ProductSelector.exe icon. The Genetec Product Selector window opens. b Under the other product name, click Enable. This disables the currently selected product. Note Even if you disable a product, it remains installed on the SV-16. After you are done: Log on to Server Admin and activate your license. See Activate license on page 9. EN V1.7(1)

14 Getting started Activate license This section explains how to activate your Security Center and Omnicast licenses using an Internet connection. If you do not have Internet access, you can activate your license manually. Security Center license Web activation on page 9 Omnicast license Web activation on page 10 Manual license activation on page 10 Security Center license Web activation This section explains how to activate your Security Center license using Web activation. 1 Open Server Admin by clicking the Server Admin icon in the Windows taskbar. 2 Enter admin as your password, and click Log on. Note If you are using a remote desktop connection, the admin user account and admin password are activated by default. 3 In the License dialog box that appears, click Modify License. 4 In License management dialog box, click Web activation. 5 Enter the System ID and Password assigned to you when you purchased your license, and click Activate. 9 EN V1.7(1)

15 Getting started Omnicast license Web activation This section explains how to activate your Omnicast license using Web activation. 1 Open Server Admin by clicking the Server Admin icon in the Windows taskbar. 2 Enter admin as your password, and click Log on. 3 Click the License tab. 4 Click the Activate license from the web button. 5 In the Web activation dialog box, enter the System ID and Password assigned to you when you purchased your license, and click OK. 6 Click OK. Manual license activation This section explains how to activate your Security Center or Omnicast license manually if you do not have Internet access. 1 Save the validation key. If you are using Security Center: i Open Server Admin by clicking the Server Admin icon in the Windows taskbar. ii Enter admin as your password, and click Log on. iii In the License dialog box that appears, click Modify License. iv In License management dialog box, click Validation key, and save the validation key. The default name for the file is Validation.vk. If you are using Omnicast: i Open Server Admin by clicking the Server Admin icon in the Windows taskbar. ii Enter admin as your password, and click Log on. iii In the License tab of the System entity, click the Export Validation key to a file button. The default name for the file is Validation.vk. 2 From another computer with Internet access, log on to GTAP at 3 In the GTAP login page, enter System ID and Password assigned to you when you purchased your license, and click Login. 4 In the System Management tab, click System Browser. 5 In the computer license list, click More info next to the computer you want to activate the license for. 6 Click Activate your license now. 7 In the Activation dialog box, browse for the Validation.vk file, and click Submit. The message Your license has successfully been activated appears. EN V1.7(1)

16 Getting started 8 Click Click here to download your license key, and save the license key to a file. The default file name is your System ID, followed by _Directory_License.lic. 9 To activate your license, return to Server Admin. If you are using Security Center: i In the Directory tab of Server Admin, click License information. ii In the License dialog box, click Modify license. iii In the License management dialog box, click Manual activation. iv In the Manual activation dialog box, paste your license information from the License.lic file (open with a text editor), or browse for the License.lic file, and click Open. v Click Activate. If you are using Omnicast: i In the License tab of the System entity, click Import License Key from a File. ii Browse for the License.lic file, and click Open. iii Click Apply. 11 EN V1.7(1)

17 Getting started Installing Security Center client applications on a remote computer If you are using the SV-16 with Security Center, the client applications must be run on a different computer. You need to copy the Client folder located in C:\SC5 on the SV-16 to a remote computer, and then install Security Center Client. For more information about installing Security Center Client, see the Security Center Installation and Upgrade Guide. The latest version of this document is available for download from the GTAP Documents page, at gtap.genetec.com. Installing Omnicast client applications on a remote computer It is best practice to run the Omnicast client applications on a different computer. The SV-16 includes Omnicast client installation files that you can copy to, and install on the remote computer. The Client folder you need to copy is located in C:\Omnicast. For more information about installing Omnicast Client, see the Omnicast Installation and Upgrade Guide. Downgrading the SV-16 If you need to downgrade the SV-16, you can recover an earlier image version. 18 Product warranty Product warranty This section explain what is covered and what is not covered by the product warranty. What is covered Genetec guarantees the product against defects in materials and assembly in the course of normal use and service, for a period of 2 years from the date of shipment. Genetec Hardware Warranties cover the product Hardware. Please contact Genetec Technical Assistance for more information. What is not covered The following items are not covered by the Genetec Standard Hardware Warranty: Any equipment not furnished by Genetec which is attached to or used in conjunction with a product. A product which is used with any ancillary equipment that is not furnished by Genetec. Shipping cost to return a product to Genetec. Defects or damage resulting from customer's improper testing, operation, installation, maintenance, modification, alteration, or adjustment. Defects or damage from misuse, accident or neglect. Defects or damage resulting from use of the product in a manner other than its normal and customary manner. Defects or damage resulting from drilling holes, adding decals or other adhesives, or by painting the product. Defects or damage due to lightning or other electrical discharge. Product that is disassembled or repaired in such a manner as to adversely affect performance or prevent adequate inspection and testing to verify any warranty claim. Modification or abuse of, or tampering with, the product. Normal wear and tear. Installation, maintenance, or service of the product. 13 EN V1.7(1)

19 About product repairs and returns About product repairs and returns This section explains the product return process. What should I do if the product is not working? Contact Genetec Technical Assistance for troubleshooting. An RMA form will be issued to you if the problem cannot be resolved. For information, see Technical support on page iv. How do I return the product? If a replacement unit is required, you must complete the RMA form provided by Genetec Technical Assistance before being issued an RMA number. Once you are given a number, you can then return the defective unit. The customer is responsible for all return shipping charges, and Genetec will pay the shipping charges to send the repaired product back to the customer. IMPORTANT If no problem is found with the unit, the customer is invoiced. Where to find system information You need to have all system information on hand when contacting Genetec Technical Support, such as the Product ID number and image version (platform version). Find Security Center system license information 1 Log on to Config Tool or Security Desk on the remote computer where the application is installed. 2 Click the Home button. 3 From the Home page, click the About button. Find Omnicast system license information 1 Log on to the Config Tool, Live Viewer, or Archive Player. 2 Click the Help menu, and click Technical support. Find the image version 1 Logon to the SV Open the System properties window by navigating to Start > Control Panel > System. 3 The platform version is located under System > Model. EN V1.7(1)

Operation is subject to the following two conditions: - This device may not cause harmful interference, and - This device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. Any changes or modification to the product not expressly approved by Genetec could void the user s authority to operate this device. This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits of a Class B digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference when the equipment is operated in a residential environment. This equipment generates, uses, and radiates radio frequency energy, and if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur. If this equipment does cause interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to correct the interference by one of the following measures: Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna. Increase separation between the equipment and receiver. Connect the equipment to an outlet on a circuit different from which the receiver is connected.
