2 CODESOFT Version 8.0 CODESOFT 8.0 label design software delivers new features and corrections that have been made since the release of version CODESOFT 8.0 is available in two editions: Pro and Enterprise. The Pro edition replaces Premier with design features, database connectivity and ActiveX Basic. Licensing is based on one thermal printer at a time and any Windows printer driver. Enterprise is the high-end edition with powerful integration features. Licensing is based on an unlimited number of printers. CODESOFT 8 is available in single user, RunTime (Print Only) and Network versions. User Interface Shapes New Features o New parameters have been added allowing the user to select a shape for the background, modify the line style and fill pattern of Shape objects as well as Text, Bar Code, Image and OLE Embedded objects. Object Order o You can now place objects in a particular order which is especially useful when objects need to be sent to a printer in a specific order. Bar Codes o Code 93i has been added and RSS properties have been reviewed and extended such as Data Tag Standard for EPC (SSCC, GRAI, USDOD...). Rich Text Objects o It is now possible to add Rich Text objects to your label, enabling you to manage RTF information such as chemical formulas. Rendering List field TextArt Variables o The vector rendering capabilities have been improved. o It is now possible to add a List Field to your label which can be used to spread data in a chart. o The new TextArt capabilities allow you to alter text characteristics such as outline color and bend angle. o A new menu item has been added allowing the user to add variables from the menu or by keyboard shortcuts. 3 Printing Document Multiple Database Connections Formulas o A drop-down menu is now available on the toolbar, making it easy to manage multiple connections in a label. o It is now possible to define Specific Formulas in an external DLL. Control Variables o New control variables have been added and some previous control variables have been modified. Resetting the Counter o Counter reset provides the ability to reset a counter based on the change of another variable's value. Find Record Dialog Box o An enhancement has been made allowing the user to print a label with the matching record directly from this dialog box. Format Dialog Box o A new check box option for Page Setup and Margin Tab will allow the user to use the default margin settings set in the driver. Label Background o It is now possible to define a Label Background for specific or complex labels. TrueType Font Substitution o The TrueType font substitution will allow the user to design a single label that can be printed on different kinds of printers. Printing Log File o It is now possible to log the user name and to track each label. RFID Improvements o A new format, STRUCTURED, is now available for complex tags like EPC. Printing Options o It is now possible to define/customize the Print dialog box to simplify the printing process, allowing the user to print directly without being prompted, to print or not to print certain objects, or to default to the Direct Printing method. Export to Image o A new common user interface for both Export to Image and Copy All as an image (Copy to clipboard) will propose options for exporting. ULD - XML Import o ULD is an XML label definition format that makes it possible to import XML labels into CODESOFT. CODESOFT 8.0 Release Notes 3

4 Tools Database Manager o This new tool includes all the same great functionality provided by the old Database Manager and the Batch Print Manager, but with added features and more flexibility for customization via an easy-to-use, user-friendly interface. Form Designer o A new visual designing tool that allows the rapid building of front-end data entry and label printing applications. Form Viewer o New easy-to-use software that lets you view pre-defined forms. Fixes and Corrections Files The "all files *.* " option is no longer accessible from the Open > Files dialog box. Printers Printing Variable The Windows printer settings are saved with the label. When doing an ASCII merge with a laser printer AND with no more than one label on a page, you are prompted for confirmation for each record of the database file. Reset to value is now correctly set when printing from the form display mode. Counter now keeps the value while printing. It asks to save after label reopening and some printing counter increment. Date from log file settings is now added in the print log file. A SERIALQTY variable can be used for the print quantity even if another number has been given with the printable command. The "Display in Form" option is now saved with the label (.lab) file. Date variables used in formulas are now updated when opening a label using File > Open (double-clicking on the label also variable value returns the old value if the printer is changed just before a print job. 5 ODBC/OLEDB Settings ActiveX A query can be saved when saving a label, even if the query has not been modified. When using Table Lookup variables, CODESOFT returns an error message if the ODBC data source does not exist. It is now possible to change the assigned shortcuts for User Tools from the Shortcut Keys dialog box. The LABELNOFROM parameter now works using the PrintLabel and Merge methods. A merge with an ASCII database no longer prints only on the first label. DateOffsetValue and OffSetUnit are now functional. Network Connection Other When running CODESOFT, if one of the default Network shared directories does not exist, (Network connection is not found), a warning message will appear and direct the user to the Tools\Options\Default folder dialog box to resolve the lost connection. Re-ordered information in a label in the form display mode will keep its position after saving and reopening the label at a later date. The ASCII file descriptor is no longer limited to 20 fields. There is no longer any confusion regarding CODESOFT driver names and Windows driver names. Information and Known Limitations Windows NT/98/ME users must install the MDAC 2.5 in order to manage the ODBC drivers that are not otherwise installed on these platforms. For this reason, sample data sources are not installed under Windows NT/98/ME. Nevertheless, sample database files such as identity.mdb have been installed. Windows NT 4 users must ensure that IE4 has been installed prior to installing IE6. Only Oracle v9 and v10 have been tested with Database Manager and Form Designer. The DB2 database is not supported with Database Manager and Form Designer. This option will be available soon. Please contact Technical Support for further details. The sample forms designed to demonstrate the Form Designer and Form Viewer need to have the following folder selection in order to work (the default path set during installation).
