5 2 Launching the Application The procedures in this section apply to all control feature groups and their respective control features. Installation Window Procedure Click on the application shortcut under the folder from the FARGO Start Menu, as shown here. You can also click Diagnostics button on the card tab of the Printer Driver instance for the printer to be tested. You will be prompted to select the printer used for the Workbench application. 6 3 Software Introduction 3.1 Workbench Control Features - Overview The purpose of this updated Workbench Control feature User Guide is to provide step-by-step instructions for our new User Interface software. This new UI was designed to provide our end users, partners, and technical support experts with truly intuitive Workbench software. You can now work with left-to-right Menu Bars that have specific, printer-related control features or working process steps, as shown below in the primary Menu Bars in this application. One click and you start designing your own card. For your ease of use, we chose to incorporate standard, logical control tabs, icon control features, precise selection options, dropdown menus, check boxes, radio buttons, card-related displays, and other UI features. In so doing, we hope that you find our new software an efficient upgrade for your work purposes. Our strategy for Workbench was simple is better. Control Feature icon Description You can check, manage, download, and browse updates for printer firmware, drivers, and new releases of the Workbench software. Each update is identified by product, version, status, and download progress. You can print sample cards for your printer and eras writeable cards (if supported). In addition, you can: Select Portrait or Landscape for your card designation under the left-side, lower tabs. Under Card Preview, you can drag your sample card image into a Front and Back viewing space. Under Magnetic Encoding, you can type in your Magnetic Track Data and Start/End Sentinels, and then select your Encoding choice. Print encoding information on your card by selecting the appropriate box. Click on the Generate Sample Data and Read Magnetic Stripe buttons to activate those two functions under this tab. You can create swatches of sample colors used to spot match printed colors. Within this color-specific spectrum, you can: Select the Save Palette or Reset Palette icons as needed. Select your Saturation and Luminosity levels and generate a gradient sample. Select the Add Color to Swatches or Remove Swatch icons for your Swatch Management controls. Click on the Luminosity, Saturation, or Hue radio buttons and view each precisely measured factor (above) in your Color Canvas. Page 6 of 46 August 2016

7 Workbench Control Features Overview (continued) Control Feature icon Description This control provides the ability to send Print Files (PRN s) to the printer and to print multiple copies for samples or troubleshooting. This control provides information relating to the printer capabilities and printer supplies information. Use these controls to check the status of supplies or printer to test Sensor functionality and continue printer operations. Within this control, you can: Select the Details tab to view precise information. Several options are available under this tab. Select the Cleaning tab to view the related, step-by-step procedure and initiate the printer cleaning routine for the selected printer. Note: You no longer have to access the driver utilities to start this procedure.) Select the Update Firmware tab to gather and report the printer driver and firmware settings for their selected printer. Several options are available under this tab. Select the Film, Laminate 1 or Laminate tab. Several options are available under this tab. Select the Tests tab and (then) select either the Mechanical or Self Tests tab for specific tests to run on your printer. Select the Display tab to access Printer Ready Options and Info activation buttons. A display will be generated to show the printer, driver, and firmware settings in a visually intuitive manner. The data that is generated can be copied so that it can be sent in to HID Technical Support. Select the Sensors tab to access specific sensor information. Select the Advanced Settings tab to view the specific Name, Value, and Default settings. You can test the encoding functionality of your printer with this Encoding control feature. In addition, you can: Select your Encoder (e.g., PROX, MIFARE, iclass, or Contact Smart Card). Select your Connection (e.g., PC/SC Encoder Connection). Select your Command from a dropdown box. 8 Workbench Control Features Overview (continued) Control Feature icon Description This control allows the user to configure the data that is printed with the fluorescent panel of an YMCFKO or YMCFKOK ribbon. You can configure the area that will be printed with the fluorescent panel of a compatible ribbon. Note: This requires a connected printer to activate the control feature.) You can configure the Secure ID, Logo, and Text for the front and back side security imaging of your card. Note: The Secure ID, Serial Number, Date, and Time can be noted on the bottom of this tabular window.) This control provides the ability to configure the layout of the Inhibit panel of a ribbon. You can restrict an area of the card (that will not be printed on). This is done by checking either the Inhibit (Card) Front Enabled box or the Inhibit (Card) Back Enabled box. Each update is identified by product, version, status, and download progress. Click on this link to check for updates. Check this box for updates during application startup. Check this box to automatically download updates. Click on to browse your Updates folder. Check the Software, Drivers, or Firmware box to show specific updates. Click on this link to download all updates. Displays your product selection. Displays the Version and Status. View your download progress. Click on Download or Apply Update as needed. Update Manager Control Feature (continued) Control Features Update Manager Procedure This control feature provides the ability to run control feature commands resident in the Printer Firmware to exercise motors and sensors in the printer. You can choose to run Mechanical Test or Self Tests. Refer to Section 5: Printer Information Control Feature to review these tests. Follow the Firmware Update Process, provided below. Click on the Update to most recent version from FARGO radio button to generate your updated version. Click on the Select Firmware file radio button to locate that file. Save the file. Browse to locate the Firmware (.frm) file. Click on the Begin Updating Firmware button to update your firmware. August 2016 Page 11 of 46

14 Section 2. Card Samples Control Feature (continued) Control Features Card Samples These functions are located on upper left side of the Card Samples Menu Bar. Click on Open to open up a file. Click on Save to save your current file. Click on Save As to save your current file under a different file name. These functions are located on left side of the Card Samples Menu Bar. Note: This does not change your card design only the card sample test. The Text function will add a line of text to the card. Click on the Show Text box to show the SOME SAMPLE TEXT on the cards sample. Click on the COLOR, FONT, or SIZE arrow to select attributes for that TEXT. Click on the Use Resin box to show the SOME SAMPLE TEXT in RESIN. Note: This text will print with the Resin (K) Panel. This is helpful when testing printer performance with the Resin (K) Panel. Select your Font, Color, or Font Size to change the card sample TEXT attributes. These functions are located on middle-left side of the Card Samples Menu Bar. Note: You can add a sample barcode or F-Panel Image to the card image by checking the appropriate box. This change does not affect your barcode. This barcode will print using the Resin (K) Panel while any black elements in the image will print using the Dye Sub (YMC) Panels. Note: This is helpful when testing printer performance with the Resin (K) Panel. Click on the Barcode box to add a barcode design onto the front or back Card Preview. Click on the F-panel Image box to test the F-panel Image design onto the front or back Card Preview. This will show up on the printed card. Install the YMCFKO or YMCFKOK ribbon to test this feature. 15 Section 2. Card Samples Control Feature (continued) Control Features Card Samples These functions are located on middle-left side of the Card Samples Menu Bar. Note: This function will print two pages of the selected image. If Dual Sided is unselected in the Driver, the printer will print two (2) cards with full YMC or YMCK on the front of each card. If Dual Sided is selected in the Driver, the image will print with YMC or YMCK on the front with YMC or YMCK on the back. If Dual Sided is selected in the Driver, the image will print according to a table. Select the number of copies. Click on the Print icon to print out your card sample. Under Magnetic Encoding, you can type in your Magnetic Track Data and Start/End Sentinels, and then select your Encoding choice. Within this control feature, you can: Print encoding information on your card by selecting the appropriate box. Click on the Generate Sample Data, Read Magnetic Stripe, or Encode buttons to activate these two processes. Click on the Include Magnetic Encoding with Card Sample (when available), as needed. Click on the Print encoding information on card, as needed. Click on the Save or Save As icon to save your work. August 2016 Page 15 of 46

Control Features Color Assist You can create swatches of sample colors used to spot match printed colors. Within Color Assist, you can: Select the Save Palette or Reset Palette icons as needed in the Menu Bar (upper left). Select your Saturation and Luminosity levels and generate a gradient sample. Select the Add Color to Swatches or Remove Swatch icons for your Swatch Management controls. Click on the Luminosity, Saturation, or Hue radio buttons and view each precisely measured factor in your Color Canvas (middle right, 1 to 7 scale). Select your primary color number (e.g., 0B00FF) in the Swatch Tiles Panel, make adjustments to sensitivity, and view your results. In the Swatch Tiles Panel (lower left), select your primary color number (e.g., 0B00FF), make adjustments using the horizontal scale (to the right), and view your results in your Color Canvas. In the Color Selection Panel (lower right), type in your precise requirement for the following: Red: Green: Blue: Hue: Saturation: Luminosity: Page 16 of 46 August 2016

17 Section 3. Color Assist Control Feature (continued) Now view your color gradient selection in your Color Canvas. Control Features Color Assist Procedure These Palette controls are located in the upper left corner of your Color Assist Menu Bar. Click on the Save Palette icon to save your work to a file. Click on the Reset Palette icon to reset your palette for new or future work. These Generate Gradient controls are located in the left corner of your Color Assist Menu Bar. Adjust the Saturation scale as required. Adjust the Luminosity scale as required. Click on the Generate icon to generate a Color Gradient. Note: You can view your Color Canvas to determine how this setting affects the color gradient. August 2016 Page 17 of 46

18 Section 3. Color Assist Control Feature (continued) Control Features Color Assist Procedure These numbered tiles are located in your Swatch Tiles Panel (lower left). View your Color Gradient selection. Determine if you need to make further adjustments to the Luminosity, Saturation, or Hue scales. These Swatch Management controls are located in the middle of your Color Assist Menu Bar. Click on the Add Color to Swatches icon to add two swatches. Once you add or edit color to the swatches, click on the Save Palette icon in upper left corner of the Color Assist Menu Bar. Click on the Remove Swatch icon to remove a selected swatch. 19 Section 3. Color Assist Control Feature (continued) Control Features Color Assist Procedure These Printing controls are located in the upper right corner of your Color Assist Menu Bar. Select the Current Color radio button after you highlight a single color swatch, as shown in your Color Canvas. Select the Selected Swatches radio button to select more than one color swatch, as shown below. Select the All Swatches radio button as required. Click on the Print icon to print out and review a current sample in your Color Canvas. Here is an example: You added the 1500CB and 1500CB swatches by clicking on the Add Color to Swatches icon, as shown here. You removed any swatch by selecting it with your mouse and clicking on the Remove Swatch icon. Note: This removes that specific swatch instantly.) The Color Canvas shows the selected color and is surrounded by similar colors. Select Luminosity, Saturation, or Hue to change how the similar colors will be selected. Adjust the sensitivity to increase or decrease the range of Luminance, Saturation, or Hue to be applied to your Color Canvas. August 2016 Page 19 of 46

20 Section 3. Color Assist Control Feature (continued) Control Features Color Assist Procedure This control is located to the left in your Color Selection Panel. Use your mouse to adjust the vertical UP and DOWN scale. Observe the change in the Color Canvas as you make your adjustments, as shown in the lower right readings in your panel (i.e., Red, Green, Blue, Hue, Saturation, and Luminosity). Your precise adjustments to Red, Green, Blue, Hue, Saturation, and Luminosity are shown in the Color Selection Panel. Select the Luminosity radio button to adjust the scale below it. Select the Saturation radio button to adjust the scale below it. Select the Hue radio button to adjust the scale below it. Review your Color Canvas with the 1 to 7 scale. Save your work. Control Features Print Spooler & PRN Viewer This control feature provides information relating to the printer capabilities and printer supplies information. With it, you can: Locate and open the previously saved PRN file. The filename will appear. This control feature provides the ability to send Print Files (PRN s) to the printer. Select the number of copies to print. The range is copies. Send File to Printer. Verify the Printer Driver settings are the same as the created PRN file. The PRN Viewer control feature provides the ability to view a Print File (PRN) as an image. This control feature provides the ability to send Print Files (PRN s) to the printer. With it, you can: View the proper layout and determine if image defects are part of the file going to the printer. Configure the layout of the Inhibit panel of a ribbon. Erase rewriteable cards in a batch or one at a time. Check status of supplies or printer to test Sensor functionality and continue printer operations. Print multiple copies for samples or troubleshooting. August 2016 Page 21 of 46

Control Features Print Spooler & PRN Viewer Procedure You can view and send Print Files (PRN s) to the printer with this control feature. These controls are located on the right side Print Spooler & PRN Viewer. Click on the Load PRN button to locate and open the previously saved PRN file. The filename will appear. Click on the Send to Printer button to verify the Printer Driver settings are the same as the created PRN file. Use these directional and sizing control features to: Select the next file or last file. Rotate that PRN file. Size that PRN file. Page 22 of 46 August 2016

Control Features Printer Information The Printer Information controls are shown here. Review the information relating to the printer capabilities and printer supplies information. 24 Section 5. Printer Information Control Feature (continued) Control Features Printer Information Select Refresh Printer to refresh the Information. This control feature will retrieve the Ribbon information in the printer and indicate the type of Ribbon that is installed, the part number of that Ribbon, and the number of printers running. These values are stored on the RFID chip on the media and will go with the media when removed. Click on the Refresh Printer icon or link to refresh your current printer setup. Click on the Export Printer Information to activate that function. Click on the View Driver Properties to activate that function. These indicators are located under the Details tab. Card Count: This shows the number of cards printed by the printer. This value cannot be reset. Model: Indicates specific printer. Driver: Indicates driver version. Serial Number: This value is stored on the board. Please note that this value will change if the board is replaced. Firmware: This is the version of Firmware currently loaded on the printer. If necessary, the Firmware can be updated using the Upgrade Firmware function. Page 24 of 46 August 2016

Click on the Refresh Printer icon or link to refresh your current printer setup. Click on the Export Printer Information to activate that function. Click on the View Driver Properties to activate that function. Select the required encoder, reader, or module under the Details tab. Magnetic Encoder: This control provides the ability to exercise the printer s magnetic encoding functionality independent of an image or application. iclass Encoder: This control provides the ability to test the iclass Encoder in a Printer. MIFARE Encoder: This control provides the ability to test the MIFARE Encoder in a Printer. Contact Smart Card Encoder: This control provides the ability to test the Contact Smart Card encoder in a Printer. 26 Section 5. Printer Information Control Feature (continued) Control Features Printer Information Check one of the three (3) options under Printer Password Settings. Note: If you select Ask For Password After Delay, you will need to select the time interval from the dropdown list. This control feature provides the ability to enable and configure the Password control feature on the printer. If the Printer already has password control enabled, the checkbox will be checked. If password control is disabled, the checkbox will be unchecked. If unchecked, the Printer Password settings group box and the controls in it will be disabled. Check or uncheck the Password Enabled checkbox, whichever applies to the current situation. Enter the printer password. Note: The default password is Check the After delay: radio button to specify the delay in minutes. Check the Before each print radio button to specify that password requirement. Check the On first print of the day radio button to specify that password requirement. Click on the Apply Password Settings button to bring up the Enter the password for: dialog. Type in your current password and click on OK to activate it. Select Save from the upper left File dropdown menu. Page 26 of 46 August 2016

Note: You no longer have to access the driver utilities to start this procedure. Click on the Begin Cleaning Printer link (Step 4) when you are ready to clean your printer. Several options are available under this tab. Click on the two radio button to update for the latest firmware or to use the manually selected firmware. Follow the instructions carefully. Click on the Update Firmware button to generate your firmware updates. Select the Film, Laminate 1 or Laminate tab. Several options are available under this tab. You can review the Reorder Number, the Type, or the Percentage as needed. Refer to the appropriate user guide for more details. Page 28 of 46 August 2016

Printer Information Control Feature (continued) Control Features Printer Information This control feature will retrieve the Lamination 1 or Laminate 2 information to the printer and indicate the type of Laminate loaded, including: Reorder Number Lamination Type Percent of Laminate remaining (e.g., 67%) These values are stored on the media and will go with the media when removed. To refresh this data, click on the Refresh Printer button. Operating the Run Tests Controls This control feature provides the ability to run control feature commands resident in the Printer Firmware to exercise Motors and Sensors in the Printer. The two test types are for Mechanical and Self Tests, as shown below. Select the Tests tab and (then) select either the Mechanical or Self Tests tab for specific tests to run on your printer. This control feature: Allows you to isolate printer functions and run them to determine operational status. Sends a command down to the printer to activate a board-based self test. This is useful in determining printer operational status. Displays the self tests available from the selected printer. Not all printers have the same self tests. Note: These tests are based on the printer and will not take Driver settings into account. Running the Self Test The test window may show different options depending on the printer selected. Printer Information Control Feature (continued) Control Features Printer Information Reviewing the Display tab Select the Display tab to access Printer Ready Options and Info activation buttons. A display will be generated to show the printer, driver, and firmware settings in a visually intuitive manner. The data that is generated can be copied so that it can be sent in to HID Technical Support. This control feature will control the Printer s LCD Display functions. With it, you can: View Printer messages on the display. Run the self tests from this application via the PC. Recover from any errors. Recall the printer network information. Note: The LCD will cause a change to the printer. The printers will change Remote Values if Automatically Refresh is selected. Not all printers have this Display option. Reviewing the Sensor Information tab This control feature shows the printer sensor status. Each printer will show specific information on the selected printer. Values may be changed by using the drop down menu on each Current Value row. Click Default to go back to factory settings. August 2016 Page 31 of 46

These are changed in the Advanced Settings of the printer driver preferences. See the individual User Guides for details. In addition, you can: Run the self tests from this application via the PC. Note: If you receive an error finding the PC/SC Encoder Communications Ports, check the connection to the Printer. This control feature provides the ability to test the Proximity Card in a Printer. Click on the PROX radio button. Select the Communications Port or Connection into which the Proximity Encoder is connected. Select the desired Test, as shown in this tutorial display. Click on Dock Card to Reader as needed. Click on Eject Card as needed. Click on Run Test. Clear the results when complete. Page 34 of 46 August 2016

39 Adding a Secure ID to the Card Control Features Secure Imaging Select the Decrypt Secure Type in your Secure ID in the blank space. Click on the Decrypt Secure ID button to activate it. Locate the Secure ID number on the card. Note: The Secure ID number is printed with the Resin panel or the Fluorescing Panel. Enter the Secure ID number in the box provided. Click on the Decrypt Secure ID button. The Printer Serial Number indicates the serial number of the printer in which the card was printed. The Date/Time (GMT indicates when the card was printed. Click on the Print Security control feature group and select the Security Imaging control feature. Note: If the software is unable to communicate with the printer, an error is displayed.) With this control feature, you can configure the area that will NOT be printed on when using the YMCKI ribbon. This allows for the ability to write to a specific area on the card. Example: The card already has a place for writing a signature to this area. Type in your Serial Number, Date, and Time in the appropriate blank space. August 2016 Page 39 of 46
