1 How can I access Internet Native Banner (INB)? YSU Internet Native Banner (INB) Frequently Asked Questions Open a web browser and type: in the address line. Locate the Internet Native Banner section of options and click the desired database instance. Type in your User ID, press tab to the password field, type in password and click connect. If you have technical questions pertaining to Internet Native Banner, including access, please contact the Tech Desk at Ext or at techdesk@cc.ysu.edu What is a database instance and how do I know which one to use? A database instance is a copy of data. Because this is a three-year implementation process, we will be using various instances at different times. Below is a summary of the current instances. Production (PROD) = Live YSU data as of 7/1/05) YSU Training (YTRN) = Practice area for YSU enduser training SCT Training (TRNG) = SCT consultants training (not specific to YSU Banner University data) Pre-Production (PPRD) = Pre-go live, tested, verified YSU data Test (TEST) = Testing area for functional and technical YSU employees Converter (CONV) = Testing area for Computer Center technical staff to perform data conversion What is the difference between Internet Native Banner and Self-Service? Finance Self-Service is the web interface that will allow YSU employees to perform designated financial operations and procedures in a more user-friendly environment than that of Internet Native Banner (INB). Specifically for Finance-related functions, it allows users to create and approve requisitions, query accounts for encumbrances, payments, and budget, as well as make budget transfers. How do I know what option of Banner I am supposed to use INB or Self-Service? Most functional team employees will use INB to complete administrative back-office processes. If you are a staff member outside of those departments or a principal investigator for a grant, you will access Self-Service to perform financial operations.
2 The first time I tried to access Internet Native Banner, I get a green screen what do I do? The first time INB is accessed from your computer, you will need to install JInitiator. 1. Locate the yellow bar at the top of the page under the blue title bar. 2. Click on the yellow bar and click Install Active X Control. 3. Click Install in the security warning box. 4. Click Next and follow the prompts through the installation. 5. Click OK and the installation is complete. R emember in order to install software you must be logged onto the personal computer with administrative user privileges. I get a square box with a red X in the middle when I try to get into banner. How do I fix this problem? This message appears if your homepage is set to or anther website using the Java Virtual Machine (JVM). Banner uses a specific version of the Java Virtual Machine and these sites load a different version. Set your home page to a page that does not use JVM such as about:blank.
3 I get an error when installing the Oracle Initiator for access to Internet Native Banner system: 16-bit MS-DOS Subsystem C:\Window\System32\Autoexec.nt The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. The Autoexec.nt file is missing from the System32 directory. (You may also get prompted that Config.nt or Command.com is either corrupted or missing as well.) Locate the Microsoft Operating System CD and follow these instructions: 1. Insert the CD into the CD drive or DVD drive. 2. Click Start, and then click Run. 3. In the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK. 4. At the command prompt, type the following commands, pressing ENTER after each command: expand CD-ROM Drive Letter:\i386\config.nt_ c:\windows\system32\config.nt expand CD-ROM Drive Letter:\i386\autoexec.nt_ c:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt expand CD-ROM Drive Letter:\i386\command.co_ c:\windows\system32\command.com exit 5. Try installing the Oracle Initiator again. If you need additional assistance, contact the Tech Desk at Ext or at Why do I get an error connecting to the YSU Banner website? Conflicts occur if the Google or Yahoo toolbars are installed in the Web browser you are using. In order to connect disable the toolbars. In Internet Explorer (IE), choose tools/manage add-ons/click Yahoo or Google toolbar link/click disable/click OK. How do I put a shortcut on my desktop to the YSU Banner website? Open Internet Explorer and type in After the Banner site is open, click the Restore button (middle button in the top right hand corner of the title bar) so that a portion of the desktop is visible. Click and hold the small e in the left-hand corner of the title bar. Drag the e onto the desktop. How do I change my shortcut on my desktop to open more than one instance from the YSU Banner website? Open Internet Explorer. Click tools/internet options/advanced tab. Remove the checkmark next to Reuse Windows for Launching Shortcuts option. Click OK. I get the message FRM-92102: A network error has occurred. What do I do? This message indicates that a 3-hour time-out error has occurred. Click OK and restart your web browser program. If your keyboard has a web navigation key, use the reload to redisplay the sign on the form. If not, try pressing the ESC key and F5.
4 Why does my Auto Hint Line not display? In order for the Auto Hint Line to display, the screen resolution should be set at 1024x768. In order to find the resolution of your screen, right-click on the desktop, choose properties, click the settings tab and locate the screen resolution. Click OK to close the properties dialog box. How often do I need to change my INB password? The current password regulations are available at the http ://banner.ysu.edu website. For security purposes, the following password management rules are in effect: Passwords expire every 92 days, then you must change your password. Passwords must be at least six characters long. Passwords must contain at least one alphabetic and one numeric character. Passwords may only contain letters and numbers. Passwords ignore case - ABCDF1 is the same as abcdf1 or AbCdF1. Passwords must differ from the previous password by at least three letters. Passwords may not match your userid. Passwords may not match simple words like "account", "user", or "password". Passwords must be changed five times before the current password can be reused. Users will be locked out for 15 minutes after five failed login attempts. Passwords may be changed at any time with Banner form GUAPSWD For assistance with your password, please contact the Database Administrator at Ext or the System Administrator at Ext What if I forgot my Internet Native Banner ID or password? Your ID is your YSU directory account or your CU ID. If you have forgotten your password, please contact the Tech Desk at Ext or at techdesk@cc.ysu.edu Can I access Internet Native Banner from home? Yes. You will need to install VPN software one-time on your home personal computer then you only need an Internet connection and a browser (Internet Explorer version 5.5 or higher) is preferred. What are the available hours for Banner Self-Service? Currently, Banner is available daily from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 midnight with the second Sunday of the month unavailable for maintenance activities. Hours will change as more systems go-live. I want to be able to use the Data Extract feature to bring the data from Banner to Excel. How do I do this? In order to get a prompt for file downloading, in Internet Explorer (IE), choose tools/internet options/security tab/trusted sites icon/sites button, remove the checkmark next to Require server verification ( for all sites in this zone and add *.ysu.edu. You must also allow pop-ups from this site. In IE, navigate to tools/internet options/privacy tab/setting button and add *.ysu.edu.
5 What is a General Person Record? This is personal information such as name and address. It is kept in a table that is shared with finance, human resources, student, financial aid, and advancement systems. Thus, employees, vendors, sponsors, alumni, donors, applicants and students all will be listed on a general person record. When I am performing a search in Internet Native Banner, I click on an option list choice and nothing happens. What do I do? Although we have reported this issue to SCT, there is no permanent solution to this problem as of yet. Press the tab key to open the Person Search query form; press the shift and tab key to open the Alternate ID Search query form.
