It also provides basic instructions and important notes on the installation and operation of the software. Important Notes When launching Spectrum XT for the first time upon installation, you will be prompted to provide your product serial number and serial key. This is to enable you to get the license file from AirMagnet over the Internet. The application will not function without a license. Spectrum XT is capable to capture and display both spectrum and Wi-Fi data, provided that both an AirMagnet-supported Wi-Fi adapter and spectrum adapter are installed and enabled on the same computer on which the application is installed. Fluke Networks a/b/g/n/ac 3x3 Express Card Adapter (Model AM/C1097) is not supported on Microsoft Windows 32-bit operating systems or Parallels and VMware Fusion virtual machines. Certain third-party applications installed on your laptop PC may cause Spectrum XT to malfunction. Table 1 identifies those applications and provides the workaround for each of them. Table 1: Problem-Causing Applications & Their Remedial Actions If you have installed AT&T Global Network Client Symantec Endpoint Protection Cisco Secure Services Client Do this Disable AGN Client or disable AGN Filter Interface in Windows Wireless Networks. 2 If you are running Spectrum XT on Microsoft Windows 2003 Server and Microsoft Windows 2008 R2 Standard Edition, you can only see Wi-Fi graphs you can get are Wi-Fi Devices, AP Signal Strength, and Channel Occupancy. All the other Wi-Fi data and graphs are not supported on these two versions of the Windows operating system. New Features Below are the major new features implemented in this AirMagnet Spectrum XT v. 3.7 release. The subsequent paragraphs discuss the features in detail. Customized reporting Select Interferer during Playback Addition of new interferers Support for ac 3x3 adapter Recording of Bluetooth devices Support for Intel 6205/50 radio Tutorial Videos in Help menu Support for Fluke Networks a/b/g/n/ac 3x3 Express Card Adapter AirMagnet Spectrum XT now supports the newly released Fluke Networks a/b/g/n/ac 3x3 Express Card Adapter (Model AM/C1097), which enables you to see both RF interferers and their impact on your Wi-Fi network all within one tool. All Wi-Fi graphs, including the Channels by Media, Channel Occupancy (for wider channels), Channels by Speed, and Channel Utilization graphs, have been enhanced to support the latest IEEE standard. Figure 1 shows a picture of the newly released Fluke Networks a/b/g/n/ac 3x3 Express Card Adapter. Figure 1: The new a/b/g/n/ac 3x3 Express Card Customized Reporting This release saw the implementation of the long-awaited custom reporting feature. It enables you to create comprehensive Wi-Fi interference reports using snapshots of exactly the same data you see onscreen. You can either let the application generate a default report with a click of the button, or compile a custom report using the snapshots of your choice, arranged in the order of your preference. Seamlessly integrated with the Spectrum WiFi Summary page, the tool is intuitive and easy-to-use, making report generation/creation a breeze. 3 Report Information Default Report Custom Report Report-viewing area Figure 2: Reports page UI components Note: It is important to know that the Add to Report button only lets you take a snapshot of what is shown in a graph. Because the snapshot is a still image, the scroll bar on the graph is NOT functional on the Reports page. In addition, the shape and size of the graph images shown in the reports are determined by the shape and size of the graph when the snapshots were taken and can NOT be changed on the Reports page. For this reason, make sure that the graphs are of the ideal shape and size before clicking (Add to Report). Selecting an interferer during playback The (Play from selected time) button has now been added to Spectrum XT s toolbar. It becomes active only when the application is set in playback mode. Clicking the button opens the Play from Selected Time dialog showing a list of interferers that have been detected. You can then focus on a specific interferer by playing back data exclusively about it. This industry-leading feature enables you to quickly navigate to all interference events logged during a capture and drill down directly to what is the most important, rather than sitting through the entire capture. 4 Figure 3: Play from Selected Time Ability to Detect Canopy and Mesh Devices AirMagnet Spectrum XT adds to its already comprehensive list of interferers by adding detections for Canopy and Mesh devices. These devices are commonly used in outdoor deployments in the 5-GHz band for point-to-point and point-multi-point connections. Support for Intel 6205/50 Driver Integration AirMagnet Spectrum XT has now fully integrated with Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205/50 driver to offer better radio performance. Recording and Playback of Bluetooth Devices Spectrum XT now is able to record Bluetooth devices during live capture and play back Bluetooth data in playback mode. Addition of Video Tutorials to the Help Menu A Tutorial Videos link has been added to Spectrum XT s Help menu. 5 System Requirements The following paragraphs discuss the minimum system requirements of the platforms on which AirMagnet Spectrum XT can be installed and operated. 6 Supported Devices for Additional Wi-Fi Analysis AirMagnet Spectrum XT offers Wi-Fi analysis features in addition to the spectrum features supported by the AirMagnet Spectrum USB adapter. However, keep in mind that an AirMagnet Spectrum USB adapter is required when running AirMagnet Spectrum XT. The application will not work without a supported spectrum USB adapter. Listed below are the wireless network adapters that we have tested and support: Fluke Networks a/b/g/n/ac 3x3 Express Card Adapter Kit (Model AM/C1097) Ubiquiti Networks SR71-USB WLAN a/b/g/n MIMO Proxim Orinoco a/b/g/n USB Adapter Software Installation Note: You must have Administrator rights (log on as an administrator) to install and run AirMagnet Spectrum XT. See Windows Help and Support to learn about the Administrator account type. There are two ways to install the software: If your product purchase includes an installation CD, you may choose to install the product from the CD or you may download and/or run the installation executable file available in the Registered Products/ Downloads section of your My AirMagnet account. If your product purchase does not include an installation CD, you may download and/or run the executable file available in the Registered Products/Downloads section of your My AirMagnet account. Note: If you have a current support contract, the download will be the most current version of the product, otherwise it will be the version you are entitled to download. 1. Run the application installer: CD installation: Insert the CD in the PC s CD-ROM drive. If autorun is enabled on your machine, the installer should begin automatically. If autorun is disabled, double-click the Autorun.exe file. Download installation: From the Registered Products page of your My AirMagnet account, click the software download and run or save the file. If the file was saved, double-click the.exe file to begin running the installer. 2. From the installation screen, select the option to install the application. 3. Agree to the Software License Agreement. To proceed with installation, you must agree to the Software License Agreement. 4. Set the installation destination folder. Accept the Program Files default or browse to a different location. 5. Click Finish to complete the installation. The system will automatically shut-down and restart. Bug Fixes None. 7 Known Issues This section highlights the main known issues found in this release, as listed in Table 3. Table 3: Known Issues Bug # DE12613 DE12617 DE12619 DE7902 DE12387 Description Certain adapters such as Proxim, Ubiquiti, and AirMagnet a/b/g/n Wireless Express Card are not able to scan Channel 165. The 5-GHz/Mixed mode FFT Graph freezes after launching WiFi Analyzer with Spectrum Integration enabled. The workaround is to switch to another band, and then switch back or click the Reset button. AP association is lost in Survey after you choose to use the Fluke Networks a/b/g/n/ac 3x3 Express Card Adapter Kit (Model AM/C1097) upon launching XT. The workaround is to avoid selecting this adapter for Spectrum XT. Spectrum XT is unable to decode Bluetooth from mobile devices. If you are having this issue, we recommend you update the driver of your laptop hardware to its latest version. Reports exported in "editable.rtf" format show a number of formatting issues Random characters may occasionally appear in the Services list for Detected Bluetooth devices The signal strength of an AP detected by the enabled Wi-Fi adapter may intermittently drop to -100 dbm before recovering. DE563 DE9572 You may encounter a situation where you are unable to use the Find Tool on a device group. The current workaround is to reset the application and allow the group to be redetected before starting the Find Tool. For older recordings (pre-3.6.1), the Duty Cycle values may not be reflected accurately. A new recording will not exhibit this behavior.
