4 Enhancements Feature Full Support of Microsoft Windows 10 With Internet Explorer 11 and Microsoft Edge Delete All Future Attendance Records When Transferring a Student View Page Permissions Default Setting Description PowerSchool is proud to announce full support for Microsoft Windows 10 with Internet Explorer 11, as well as the exciting new browsing technology, Microsoft Edge. With PowerSchool 9.0 and above, education professionals can now enjoy the world's most popular student information system, PowerSchool, on the world's most popular platforms from Microsoft. You now have the ability to delete future attendance when transferring a student out of school. This feature is available on the Transfer Student Out page in PowerSchool. When viewing page permissions, you can now see the default page permissions for the group. Resolved Issues General Fixes Issue Data Export Manager Error Description When using Data Export Manager, if a date column is selected and the comparison input field is left blank, either incorrect results or errors appear. This issue is now resolved. Enhancements 4

5 Issue Excessive Drive Space Consumed by Log Files Interval Attendance Not Saving Localize PowerSchool: Unable to Translate Smart Pronouns Nightly Health Compliance Process No Longer Running ReportWorks Reports Status Does Not Change Schema Update Fails After Upgrading to PowerSchool 8.3 Unable to Delete Report From Queue Description The PSX-Stats logs progressively increase in size each day. This causes the drives to fill up and PowerSchool to stop if the drive runs out of space. This issue is now resolved. You should remove logs older than 30 days, or larger than 100 MB. For more information on removing logs, see the following Knowledgebase articles, available on PowerSource: Knowledgebase article PSJRuntime Logs Multiple GB in Size In PowerSchool 9 Knowledgebase article Recovering Drive Space by Deleting PowerSchool Log File When entering interval attendance in PowerSchool, an error appears and the attendance marks are not saved. This issue is now resolved. PSR When localizing the Smart Pronoun Name category, an error message appears and the localization is not saved. This issue is now resolved. The nightly Health Compliance process stopped working in PowerSchool This issue is now resolved. Reports generated from ReportWorks do not change status from Pending. This issue is now resolved. After upgrading to PowerSchool 8.3, the following error appears: AutoCalendarSetting_Populate_ET_5368, status: Failed, java.sql.sqlexception: Exception executing. This issue is now resolved. When a report status reads Error, it cannot be deleted from the Report Queue. This issue is now resolved. Resolved Issues 5

6 Installation Notes You must be running PowerSchool 8.0.x or greater in order to upgrade to PowerSchool See the installation note below for information on required State Reporting installers. The installer setup files for this release are available for download from PowerSource. Important Information on Load Balancers This release includes a cipher update for Java. Self-hosted customers utilizing load balancers with older firmware versions may have to upgrade the load balancer firmware prior to upgrading to PowerSchool This update was released in PowerSchool Client Workstation Impact On July 14, 2015, Oracle announced the release of a critical Java SE patch update 8u51 containing security fixes for recently identified vulnerabilities. If you utilize the older launch method (Java webstart) of PowerTeacher Gradebook and have not yet upgraded to Java 8u51, we strongly encourage an immediate upgrade to this new version of Java client on all laptops and desktops to ensure your PowerSchool implementation remains safe and secure. If you have already updated to Java 8u51, no further action is needed when upgrading to PowerSchool If you utilize the newer PowerTeacher Gradebook installer (launch button) for PowerTeacher Gradebook, we provided an update t o our embedded version of Java in PowerSchool 9.0.2, which is also included in Release As part of this update, customers will need to click the Run installer once link to load the new version of PowerTeacher Gradebook on each client workstation. If you performed this step in Release already, then no further action is needed. Important Installation Notes The database must be in an idle state for the install to successfully apply. Shut down PowerSchool services and ensure that no other connections are allowed to the database during installation. Installation Notes 6

7 IF YOU ARE PERFORMING AN UPGRADE FROM A PREVIOUS FEATURE RELEASE - (for example, from 8.x) the time to complete the upgrade can be substantial, depending on the version you are upgrading from, and the size of your database. PowerSchool recommends you schedule your upgrade during a time that will have the least impact to PowerSchool users. Upgrade Paths If you are upgrading from PowerSchool 9.1 you will need: PowerSchool Application Installer If you are upgrading from PowerSchool 9.0.x you will need: PowerSchool Application Installer Database Scripts Updater Note: this includes the latest Oracle security fixes. If you are upgrading from PowerSchool 8.x you will need: State Reporting Installer version o o or greater for Tennessee or greater for all other states and provinces PowerSchool Database Installer (PowerSource > Downloads > PowerSchool Database > PowerSchool Database ) PowerSchool Application Installer If you are performing a new installation, you will need: PowerSchool Database Installer (PowerSource > Downloads > PowerSchool Database > PowerSchool Database ) PowerSchool Application Installer Note: PowerSchool does not support upgrading from PowerSchool 7.x. If your district is using PowerSchool 7.x, you must upgrade to PowerSchool 8.x before upgrading to PowerSchool For more information, see the Installation Guide for PowerSchool 9.x available on PowerSource. Note: If Schools Interoperability Framework (SIF) is enabled on your system, an update to the latest SIF adapter is required. Consult the latest SIF documentation for information on updating to the latest SIF version. Installation Notes 7

8 The PowerSchool Application Installer is available at Support > Downloads > PowerSchool > PowerSchool Installers > PowerSchool 9.1.1> PowerSchool Application [version] installer. The PowerSchool Database Installer is available at Support > Downloads > PowerSchool > PowerSchool Database > PowerSchool Database > PowerSchool Database [version]. The State Reporting Installers are available at Support > Downloads > PowerSchool > State Reporting Installers. Use the PowerSchool installer to manage your PowerSchool deployment. It installs the database and application for a specific server, and it configures per-server settings such as database and web server ports, passwords, and file paths. PowerSchool System Requirements If this is the first time you are installing PowerSchool, review the PowerSchool 9.x Hardware and Software Requirements and the Installation Guide for PowerSchool 9.x, available on PowerSource, before installing this version of PowerSchool. The Hardware and Software Requirements are updated periodically, and contain information on supported software and browser versions for a release. Review this document before installing updates to PowerSchool. General Recommendation PowerSchool strongly recommends that you check to make sure Transport Layer Security (TLS)/Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is enabled on your PowerSchool server to ensure all data passed between your server and end users/ PowerSchool Technical Support remains secure and private. If TLS/SSL is not enabled, data moving between your server and end users is unencrypted. For more information on implementing TLS/SSL, see Knowledgebase article 8476 available on PowerSource. 9 PowerSchool Components PowerSchool is comprised of several software components, each versioned independently from one another. This allows for great er flexibility of component updates as new features and bug fixes become available. Some updates may include dependencies between components. These dependencies will be communicated and built in to the component update installers to prevent PowerSchool from being configured incorrectly. 11 State and Provincial Reporting Arizona State Reporting Updates PowerSchool includes Arizona state-specific updates. For more information, see Arizona state-specific release notes available on PowerSource. Known Issues Transcript Object Report Repeats a Single Grade Multiple Times The Transcript Object report will intermittently repeat single grades multiple times. Workaround Run the report again until the duplicate grades no longer appear. This issue will be addressed in a future version of PowerSc hool. Page and File Changes The following is a list of web_root file changes. If you manage your own customized built-in PowerSchool files, review the list for new, updated, and deleted files. If you use an image server and there were changes in the web_root/images or web_root/script s directories, be sure to update these directories on your image server. Note: This list now includes all files that changed under web_root. This change was made in response to requests from our customers.
