4 Introduction The release of the PowerSchool Student Information System (SIS) includes enhancements and resolutions to previously identified issues. Installation Notes The installer setup files for this release are available for download from PowerSource. If you are upgrading from PowerSchool 7.8.x x you will need: PowerSchool Application Installer If you are upgrading from PowerSchool 7.0.x through 7.7.x you will need: PowerSchool Database Scripts Updater PowerSchool Application Installer If you are performing a new installation, you will need: PowerSchool Database Installer PowerSchool Application Installer Note: PowerSchool does not support upgrading from PowerSchool 6.x. If your district is using PowerSchool 6.x, you must upgrade to PowerSchool before upgrading to PowerSchool For more information, see the Installation Guide for PowerSchool 7.x available on PowerSource. Note: If Schools Interoperability Framework (SIF) is enabled on your system, an update to the latest SIF adapter is required. Consult the latest SIF documentation for information on updating to SIF version The PowerSchool Application Installer is available at Support > Downloads > PowerSchool > PowerSchool Installers > PowerSchool 7.x > PowerSchool > PowerSchool Application [version] installer (Windows). The PowerSchool Database Scripts Updater is available at Support > Downloads > PowerSchool > PowerSchool Database > PowerSchool Database 11.2 > Database Scripts Updater [version]. 5 Use the PowerSchool installer to manage your PowerSchool deployment. It installs the database and application for a specific server, and it configures per-server settings such as database and web server ports, passwords, and file paths. PowerSchool System Requirements If this is the first time you are installing PowerSchool, review the Hardware and Software Requirements for PowerSchool and the Installation Guide for PowerSchool 7.11.x, available on PowerSource, before installing this version of PowerSchool. The Hardware and Software Requirements for PowerSchool guide is updated periodically, and contains information on supported software and browser versions for a release. Review this document before installing updates to PowerSchool. General Recommendation Pearson strongly recommends that you check to make sure Secure Socket Layer (SSL) is enabled on your PowerSchool server to ensure all data passed between your server and end users/pearson Technical Support remains secure and private. If SSL is not enabled, data moving between your server and end users is unencrypted. PowerSchool Components PowerSchool is comprised of several software components, each versioned independently from one another. This allows for greater flexibility of component updates as new features and bug fixes become available. Some updates may include dependencies between components. These dependencies will be communicated and built in to the component update installers to prevent PowerSchool from being configured incorrectly. 8 New Features/Enhancements Feature Special Program Restrictions Student Balancing Report Enhancements District Code for Mobile Access Description Sections in PowerScheduler and in the Automated Walk-In Scheduler can be set to include or exclude students related to specified special programs. These settings are perpetuated through the Commit process, duplicating scenarios and copying master schedules. These reports now include an term selector to narrow down which sections to display and print out. Hyperlinks have been added to the section numbers and class counts to more easily navigate to those sections and work with students in each class. A four-digit district code automatically appears on the PowerSchool Public portal if the district s PowerSchool server is registered with the mobile service server. Parents and students enter the code to connect to the district server when using PowerSchool Mobile for Parents and Students. The District Code also appears on the Mobile Registration page on the administrative portion of PowerSchool if the server is registered with the mobile service server. Resolved Issues General Fixes Issue Version First Reported Description Forward Slash (/) Causes Stored Searches to Return False Result Unable to Reset User Defined Default Settings on PowerSchool Provided Reports and State Reports Printable Student Matrix Report Error When Number of Periods Exceeds Periods in the Bell Schedule 4.2 When a forward slash (/) is used in a multi-part stored search in order to include inactive students, the search returns false results. This issue is now resolved User-defined default settings cannot be reset for PowerSchool provided reports or state reports. This issue is now resolved SCHED_MATRIX_DISPLAYSECTIONS ARCE error displays when running the Printable Student Matrix report and the number of periods exceeds the number of bell schedule items. This issue is now resolved. 8

This issue is now resolved On the Years & Terms page, when adjusting the Term to account for additional days, an error message appears and the change is not saved. This issue is now resolved The Office Visits page will not display the office visits if the staff member has a single quotation mark in their name. This issue is now resolved. This issue is referenced in Knowledgebase article on PowerSource When enrolling a new student, the default setting for the Information for Family Match section is incorrectly set to Link and Copy Information from Invalid student ID: 0. This issue is now resolved. The default setting is now Search For Family Members to Link to and Copy Information from When using the List Student group function, leaving the Column Title field blank or including a space in the field results in an HTTP Status 500 error Unexpected exception error. This issue is now resolved When a new Schoolnet role is created in PowerSchool, the ID created may contain commas. When the new role is assigned to a staff member, an error occurs. This issue is now resolved. 9

10 Issue Version First Reported Description PowerTeacher Gradebook Sharing from Schoolnet Fails for Some Tests San Diego SRC Server - Report Engine Reports are Getting Stuck in a Pending Status When attempting to share a test from Schoolnet to PowerTeacher Gradebook, the sharing fails for some tests. This issue is now resolved On the San Diego SRC Server, reports generated by the report engine are stalled in a Pending status. This issue is now resolved. ADEConnect SSO Plugin Update Some sites using the Arizona Department of Education s ADEConnect SSO plugin reported a significant slow-down of operations within PowerSchool when the plugin was activated. With this release, the PowerSchool plugin framework has been enhanced and streamlined to improve performance. Java Heap Space Error Appears After Nightly OLAP Maintenance Transferred Students do not Appear in Quick Lookup Page Historical Grades Page Displays None in Years and Terms for Transferred Students The error java.lang.outofmemoryerror: Java heap space error appears in the pearson-webapps log after the nightly OLAP maintenance process. This issue is now resolved After a student is transferred out of a school, the Quick Lookup page no longer displays the reporting terms. This issue is now resolved The Historical Grades page displays None in Years & Terms for transferred students this issue is now resolved. State Reporting State Reporting Platform Empty Description and Detail Description Results in Errors on State Report List and Run Pages This change fixes the errors displayed on the state reporting run page when a report has blank state report description fields. 10

11 Publish Reports to New Schools This feature ensures that, for a newly created school, existing state reports display correctly in the state report page when state report security is enabled.
