1 June 26, 2013 Installation Guide for Windows General Information The installation kit contains the following products: Thermo-Calc DICTRA 27 TC-PRISMA 2.0 TQ-Interface 8 TC-API 6 TC-Toolbox for MATLAB 6 The latest versions of all databases Requirements If you have a beta version of Thermo-Calc 3.0 installed you should uninstall it before continuing the installation. If you have Thermo-Calc 3.0 installed, it has to be uninstalled when you install Thermo-Calc This will be done automatically by the installation script for Thermo-Calc 3.0.1, so no action before installation is needed. For saving and printing plots with DICTRA 27, Ghostscript is required. License Each product and commercial database needs a valid license key. To obtain a license file, we first need some information about your computer. Please use the diagnostic tool tclog: Download tclog.zip from the support page at Save tclog.zip on the computer to which the license should be locked. Unpack tclog.zip and double-click on the script tclog.bat When the script stops, a log file, tclog.log, can be found in the same folder as the script. Send a copy of the new tclog.log file to info@thermocalc.com 1.

2 --- or --- Start a command window by typing in cmd and press <enter> in the search field, located on the Windows Start menu. In the command window, type in the command line ipconfig /all and press <enter> to list the information of the network adapters. To create a text file with output on the Desktop, type in the command line ipconfig /all > %userprofile%/desktop/tchostid.txt Send a copy of the output to info@thermocalc.com You will receive the license file by . Please note that the license file LSERVRC has no file extension. For network licenses we also require information about which subnets to include in the license. Subnets should be in the format aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd.*** (example: /24 or *) 2.

3 June 26, 2013 Standalone installation Log on to the computer as a system or local administrator. If you have a license file, save it on the computer so you can access it during the installation. Double-click on the file thermocalc-3.0.exe to start the installation. Accept the terms of the License Agreement. As the setup type, select Standalone. When asked to choose a license file, click on the button Choose and locate the license file LSERVRC. If you haven t received a license file yet, you can add it later. Click on the button Next to continue the installation. Select the default installation set Thermo-Calc, this will install: o Thermo-Calc o Databases o DICTRA 27 o TC-PRISMA 2.0 o TQ-Interface 8 o TC-API 6 Do not install TC-Toolbox for MATLAB 6 if you don t have MATLAB already installed and have a valid license for TC-Toolbox for MATLAB 6 If you are installing on a 64-bit computer you can choose between installing the 64-bit or 32-bit version. Choose if the software should be available to the current user or to all users. Go through the rest of the installation by following instructions on screen. 3.

4 Installation of a License Server (floating, network installation) Log on to the computer as a system or local administrator. If you have a network license file, save it on the computer so you can access it during the installation. Right-click on the file thermocalc-3.0.exe and select Run as administrator to start the installation. Accept the terms of the License Agreement. As the setup type, select Server On the next popup window, you can select what software/programs to install. Mark the checkbox for License Server. We also recommend that you install the software on the License Server at least temporary until verified that the License Manager is running properly. If you prefer to have a clean, dedicated License Server without the client part, you can later uninstall the software from the License Server. For more installation instructions of the client part see chapter Client installationor Error! Reference source not found. When asked to choose a license file, click on the button Choose and locate the license file LSERVRC. If you haven t received a license file yet, you can add it later. Click on the button Next to continue the installation. If you are installing on a 64-bit computer you can choose between installing the 64-bit or 32-bit version. Select the installation directory. Verify that the destination is accessible for the system and not a temporary folder or only accessible for one user. Please note that this is where the client part, will be installed. Where the License Server is installed can t be changed so there is no information/option to select this. Even if you have opted not to install the client on the License Server, there will be some support and help files installed in the installation folder. Server installation A server installation is an installation where the software is installed on a fileserver, and run from a client computer. This installation type should only be used for Thermo-Calc and DICTRA 27 Install the software as described in Installation of a License Server (floating, network installation) Note that you do not have to install the License Server on the same computer. On the client, browse to the installation folder on the server. Double-click on the file.\windows_clientsetup\install.exe to start the installation. 4.

Click on the button NEXT to continue the installation. Select the default installation set Thermo-Calc, this will install: o Thermo-Calc o Databases o DICTRA 27 o TC-PRISMA 2.0 o TQ-Interface 8 o TC-API 6 Do not install TC-Toolbox for MATLAB 6 if you don t have MATLAB already installed and have a valid license for TC-Toolbox for MATLAB 6. If you are installing on a 64-bit computer you can choose between installing the 64-bit or 32-bit version. Choose if the software should be available to the current user or to all users. Appendix I: Adding a license after installation or replacing it Standalone computers with SUNLL licenses If you have received the license file in a zip file, save the archive file xxx.zip and unpack it. Close any opened Thermo-Calc programs. Replace your current license file LSERVRC with the new license. The exact path for the license file can be found by: Open a command line Window by typing in cmd.exe in the search field, located on the Windows Start Menu and the clicking on the icon for cmd.exe In the command line window, type in the command set LSERVRC and then press <enter> License Servers with network, floating licenses If you have received the license file in a zip file via , save the archive file xxx.zip and unpack it. Replace your current license file LSERVRC with the new license. The default path for the license file is C:\Program Files\Common Files\SafeNet Sentinel\Sentinel RMS License Manager\WinNT\LSERVRC The exact path for the license file can be found by: Type in services on the search field, located on the Windows Start Menu and click on the icon for Services. In the list of installed services, right-click on Sentinel RMS License Manager and select Properties. Under Path to executable, the path to file lservnt.exe can be found. The license file LSERVRC can be found in the same folder as the file lservnt.exe To activate the new license, the service for Sentinel RMS License Manager needs to be restarted. This can be done by one of the following alternatives: A: Type in services on the search field, located on the Windows Start Menu and click on the icon for Services. In the list of installed services, mark Sentinel RMS License Manager and click on Restart B: Open a command line Window by typing in cmd.exe in the search field, located on the Windows Start Menu and the clicking on the icon for cmd.exe 7.

8 In the command line window, type in the command cd <path_to_lservnt.exe> and press <enter>. Replace <path_to_lservnt.exe> with the path to lservnt.exe. For the default value: C:\Program Files\Common Files\SafeNet Sentinel\Sentinel RMS License Manager\WinNT this command line will be: cd C:\Program Files\Common Files\SafeNet Sentinel\Sentinel RMS License Manager\WinNT Type in the command lservnt X stop and <enter> to stop the License Manager Type in the command lservnt X start and <enter> to start the License Manager C: Reboot the computer where the License Manager is installed. 8.

9 June 26, 2013 Appendix II: Environment variables Standalone computers In this example, Thermo-Calc is installed in: C:\Program Files\Thermo-Calc\3.0 LSERVRC=C:\Program Files\Thermo-Calc\3.0\LSERVRC (path to the license file) LSHOST=NO-NET (only value used for standalone installations) PRISMA_HOME=C:\Program Files\Thermo-Calc\vers\TC-PRISMA (root folder for TC-PRISMA) TC3_HOME= C:\Program Files\Thermo-Calc\3.0 (root folder for ) TCPATH= C:\Program Files\Thermo-Calc\3.0 (root folder of Thermo-Calc 3.0.1). Please note that this variable is only used by TC-PRISMA 2.0. Client computers, receiving license tokens from a License Server In this example, Thermo-Calc is installed in: C:\Program Files\Thermo-Calc\3.0 The computer name of the License Server is: Computer_A.domain_A.com LSERVRC not used so this variable is not set LSHOST= Computer_A.domain_A.com (the name or IP address of the License Server) PRISMA_HOME=C:\Program Files\Thermo-Calc\vers\TC-PRISMA (root folder for TC-PRISMA) TC3_HOME= C:\Program Files\Thermo-Calc\3.0 (root folder for) TCPATH= C:\Program Files\Thermo-Calc\3.0 (root folder of Thermo-Calc 3.0.1). Please note that this variable is only used by TC-PRISMA

10 Appendix III: Terminology Client Computer A computer without a license file of its own but connected through the network to a License Server. The client computer receives a license token from the License Server. Host ID The MAC Address on the computer, which the license is locked to. The license can only be used on the computer with correct Host ID. License Manager The program used for license management. The License Manager distribute license tokens as specified in the network license file License Server Computer with the License Manager installed. On Linux computers, the service for the License Manager is named License Server Network, floating (NWL) license The license type used with a License Manager. The network license can only be used on one specific computer, hosting the License Manager. The network license determines by IP addresses and IP ranges, which client computers will receive license tokens Standalone (SUNLL) Computer A computer which uses a standalone license Standalone (SUNLL) License A license locked to one computer. The license can be used without network access (to license server). 10.
