Visualeyez - Frequently asked questions This FAQ was last revised when the current build of Visualeyez was Why is the Login button missing from the right hand end of the toolbar? If the resolution is set to less than 1024 x 768 there will be insufficient space to display the whole toolbar. Right-click on the Windows desktop, select Display Properties from the popup menu, and change the resolution to 1024 x 768 on the settings tab. Why does the display flicker slightly? The monitors refresh rate is set too low. It should be 72Hz or higher for the best results, but some monitors may fail to display higher refresh rates (85Hz and above). Right-click on the desktop, select Display Properties from the popup menu. On the settings tab hit the advanced button then select the Monitor tab to change the refresh rate. Why are the colours of some buttons/graphics incorrect? Make sure that the display colour depth is set to Truecolor, 24-bit colour or 32-bit colour Why are some Toolbar icons and/or some Menu options greyed out? This is probably because you do not have access rights to these facilities. Access rights are set in the User Profile created and edited in the User Management window. A user with a high-level of access can grant you rights to use additional features. Lite versions of Visualeyez have certain features disabled. Please contact your supplier for an upgrade. Why doesn t the Visualeyez screen fill the monitor? Check that the resolution is set to correctly to 1024 x 768 Large Fonts. If it is, then check the height, width and position settings on the monitor using the controls which are usually located on the front of it.
What does the red dialog box with the!!! ERROR!!! message mean? If a Network Manager cannot communicate with the main Visualeyez program then a red dialog box which has only a mute button and no close button will appear. A minute or two after this box appears the Network Manager will attempt top restart the Visualeyez. In many cases the restart will be successful and the Visualeyez will recommence normal operation without any intervention from the user. Why does an alarm fail to display on the Visualeyez? There are 3 main causes for this 1. The alarm is disabled at Visualeyez (see below) 2. The alarm is not being transmitted across the network (AMS-Net, Zetaplex, TP/IP) 3. The alarm is being generated from a panel that is not communicating with the Network, or the Network Manager. Go to the Input Programming and look at the input for the alarm. Is it shown as disabled? If so, there are three possible reasons: 1. This node number is set to Ignore in the Network window 2. This input is unprogrammed and the option to Ignore Unprogrammed Inputs has been selected in the set-up window. 3. The input has been disabled in the Input Programming List. Try re-enabling it in the list - if it refuses to re-enable then most likely either condition 1 or 2 in this list is true, or you do not have access privileges to change the enabled/disabled state. Why do some graphics and logos look like they are the wrong size? This is probably because the display resolution is not set to Large Fonts in Windows. Can I use a resolution other than 1024 x 768 Large Fonts? Yes, you can, but it is not recommended. If you do not have Large Fonts selected then you may find that some graphics (logos, etc) do not appear at the correct size. If you use a resolution lower than 1024 by 768 then some of the toolbar buttons may be off the edge of the screen. If you use a higher resolution with large fonts Visualeyez will work well, but any graphics or text pages that you create may not display correctly if transferred to an Visualeyez with a different resolution. For these reasons we recommend standardising on 1024 x 768 with large fonts.
Can I have Visualeyez multitasking on a PC with other programs? Yes it is possible, but it is not recommended. Visualeyez is an alarm management system and it is intended that high priority is given to critical and other alarms. If the user can switch away to another application it is possible that an alarm will not be displayed. If a special application demands this ability then an option to provide a Minimize button on the main Visualeyez window can be set in the dongle upon special order. When the main window is minimized it will attempt to grab the screen on alarm, but other programs may prevent this. For this reason it is very important to make clear to the client that this feature may prevent alarm display. The Template Management/Selection window dialog fails to appear The Template Management/Selection contains a preview pane. This makes reference to the default printer selected in Windows and if there is no default printer, the display fails. To overcome this, install a default printer. Why doesn t Print Preview work? Print Preview makes reference to the default printer selected in windows and if there is no default printer, the display fails. To overcome this, install a default printer. Why can I not print from my Visualeyez? Have you selected the printer in the Set-up window? Lite versions of Visualeyez have printing disabled. Please contact your supplier for an upgrade. Can I remove the dongle? No. The dongle is your license key to use the Visualeyez system. The Visualeyez system makes periodic references to the dongle and if it is missing communications with external systems will be disabled. What size should the graphics maps be? Approximately 1004 (wide) x 556 pixels. This may vary slightly if the windows scheme does not use the classic layout (like Windows 2000) as larger Windows title bars will reduce the graphics area. It also will be different if the system is not using 1024 x 768 Large Fonts. Are there any graphics symbols available from Drax? Visualeyez build 179 and above come with a number of pre-defined symbols. These are not installed by default, but they may be imported using the Library Import facility on Visualeyez s Management Menu.
Why does the text on the text pages sometimes wrap onto the next line? There is an option on the Programming tab of the Set-Up window to Disable Word-Wrap On Text Pages. On versions of Visualeyez prior to build 179 a bug could cause unwanted word wrap under some circumstances. Can I use AutoCAD drawings for my graphic pages? Yes you can, but not directly. They need to be converted into a bitmap file. Display the drawing in AutoCAD with a screen resolution of 1024x768 or better. Scroll/zoom the drawing until the required part is visible. At this stage you may wish to remove unwanted details on some layers of the AutoCAD drawing. Now, capture the display using a screen capture program or by pressing Alt-PrintScrn to copy the screen to the clipboard. Paste the captured screen into a bitmap graphic editor (e.g. PaintShop Pro, Corel PhotoPaint, Adobe PhotoShop, etc). Crop to approximately 1004 x 556 pixels. Save as BMP, RLE, or GIF. Import the drawing into Visualeyez via the Graphics Management window. If you need to resize a graphic then make sure you use a re-sampling type of resize, to avoid jagged edges. Can I have more than four Network Managers? Not in current versions of Visualeyez. However, plans are well advanced to increase this up to a maximum of ten. Please contact Morley-IAS for further advice. Can I print alarms automatically? There is an optional Printer Network Manager that enables printing of alarms on a one-per-line basis. Please note that if you want each line to be printed actually as the alarm happens you must use a line printer device - e.g. a dot matrix printer. Can I print the alarm text page? Not at present. This is difficult to implement as a text page can contain real-time data e.g. dynamic and day/night text fields. Can I use the Visualeyez system to identify all faults in the external system(s)? Yes you can. Use the built-in History Reports available via the Management Menu. This utilises text searching in the Event History and looks for events with the word Fault in them. A user with an Engineer level password can tailor this built in report should the word Fault be incorrect, or define a new report.
How do I set-up a graphic that is not tied to a specific input - e.g. a site Map? Some graphics are not assigned to specific inputs - e.g. site maps. Earlier versions of Visualeyez required you to import the graphic and then assign it to a spare input and configure/place the symbols in the normal way. More recent versions of Visualeyez, will allow you import the graphic via the Graphics Management window, where you will also find a button that allows you to add and configure symbols. Why are the symbols displayed displaced to the top and left? This is because the PC screen resolution is set to Small Fonts - set it to Large Fonts. Why do some fonts in the text pages appear with jagged edges? Windows NT offers a font smoothing option in its display properties. This should be turned on. Windows XP also offers ClearType experiment with the settings for this. Why do Windows, menus and dialog boxes slowly zoom on to the screen instead of appearing instantly? This is down to the windows animation settings. If I change a template, will the text pages that use the template be affected? No. When you use a template for a text page a copy is made and the link with the original is broken. If you want to be able to make global changes to a wide number of pages use fixed Text Fields. Why do some of my graphics appear stretched or compressed? You may have this problem with WMF (Windows Metafile) graphics especially if the graphics window is resized. It is recommended that these graphics be converted to bitmaps if this problem should occur. How do I find an Input that I was programming 10 minutes ago I ve forgotten its reference? Use the Recents list on the right mouse click popup menu available in the Input Programming List.
An input is shown as disabled in the Input Programming List and I can t enable it. Why? There are a number of reasons why this could be the case: 1. You don t have permission in your User Profile to change the enabled status of inputs. 2. It is an unprogrammed input and you have the Disable Unprogrammed Inputs option checked in Set-Up. 3. You have this node set to Ignore in the Network window. Can I run Visualeyez under Windows XP? For the most part, yes. However, there may be issues with the Modbus and the CCTV Network Managers. Please contact Drax for advice if using these. Why does Visualeyez insist on using loops (and not zones) with fire panels? Some fire systems allow cross-loop zoning. This means that device 1 on loop 1 can be in the same zone as device 1 on loop 2. In this case Visualeyez would see two device 1s in the zone and would not be able to distinguish between them. To overcome this Visualeyez uses the loop and device numbers to give an unambiguous reference. Why does my Visualeyez give an occasional beep or bing? If some kind of error occurs then it is logged to an error file and the system beep sound is given. Please contact Morley-IAS for advice if the problem should persist.
