A license file for 12d Synergy V3 2. A location to store new data sets, namely a. General Storage for general, internal use August 29,

8 12d Synergy Server Best Practices Guide b. Delta Cache only used by File Replication Servers but must be set at upgrade time. It can be moved at a later date. 3. An unused port for file transfer File transfer has been split off from the primary 1212 port for V3, and requires an additional port. The default value is PROCESS 3.1 Before you start Before you start, be sure to read the 12d Synergy Server Best Practices Guide. This contains useful information on how you should back up your system before under taking any upgrade, as well as general backup processes. While 12d Solutions aims to offer the simplest and easiest upgrade experience, unforeseen circumstances may arise. In these cases, you may need to roll back to your previous software version, which may also require a database and file set restore. Please be aware that this process may take several hours, so do make sure you do this at a time when your users will be least impacted. 3.2 Upgrade Process 1. Stop the 12d Synergy Server Service 2. Uninstall the 12d Synergy Server Service from Programs and Features 3. Run the upgrader that was supplied for you 4. When prompted, fill out any questions required 5. Check the Windows Event Viewer or your file logs for any errors after the server comes back up 6. Ensure that the primary and file transfer ports are allowed in your firewall software, which may either be the Windows Firewall or any third party application 7. If you require external access to 12d Synergy, you will also need to port forward the file transfer port to your 12d Synergy server. 12d Solutions cannot provide assistance with this process and you should refer to your IT group or organisation for more information. 8. Part of the upgrade includes new optimised searching, which means all data may need to be reindexed. If you find you cannot find any jobs or users, simply: a. Go to the 12d Synergy Administrator b. Due to a necessary change, any scripted reports, tasks or events will need to be recompiled and updated via the 12d Synergy administrator before you can use them. If these were provided by 12d Solutions, please contact support via the Support Portal This guide offers best practices for upgrade and backup processes 12d Synergy installations. The recommendations have been provided to match the greatest possible range of Synergy configurations. This guide is provided as a set of helpful recommendations to 12d Synergy administrators who are new to SQL Server administration and to 12d Synergy in general. Each 12d Synergy administrator is responsible for ensuring that their own backup strategy matches their specific requirements. 12d Solutions is not responsible for configuring or storing backups, restoring databases or verifying an installation's backup strategy.
