Installation Insert the disk into the CD drive and the installation process should start automatically. If it doesn t start automatically use your Windows Explorer program to browse the CD and find the file called setup.exe. Run the file by double-clicking on it. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. Set-up The set-up procedure should be done before the program is run for the first time. The default settings should be suitable for most situations. However, the section below details how to customize the configuration. A modem port needs to be allocated to each panel type supported. By default, port 1 is assigned to the Galaxy 2 series and port 2 is assigned to the Galaxy 3 series range. This can be altered using the comm port configuration program called PSeditLite. This is run from the Start Menu in Programs:Downloader. The configuration program has a folder browser appearance as is shown below. ACCeSS Lite 10/08/07 Page 4 of 26

The following settings are the important ones: 1. General Folder. On this screen, the comm ports available on that particular PC can be configured. Only two consecutive comm ports can be active. By default they are 1 and 2. However, the first active comm port can be assigned as required. For Ethernet connections, by default 2 TCP ports are available. These ports can be used to connect to or accept connections from all Galaxy range panels. ACCeSS Lite 10/08/07 Page 5 of 26

2. Modem Pool Folder. In this screen, you can assign a panel type to each available comm port. To change from the defaults, click on each port in turn and select the appropriate panel type from the drop-down list at the bottom of the window. The modem string boxes on this screen should be left blank. The appropriate Modem strings for each panel can be checked by clicking on Panel Type Folder.. For TCP ports these fields are not editable. See below. 3. G2 Series Folder. In this screen, adjustments can be made to the Modem Initialisation string for the Galaxy 2 series panels. Only adjust these if required. See the latest modem list for details of the correct reset strings. The US Robotics 5630B external modem is recommended, as this works best in most circumstances. This modem is available on-line at several national PC retailers. 4. Galaxy Folder. In this screen, adjustments can be made to the Modem Initialisation string for the Galaxy 3 series and Galaxy series panels. Only adjust these if required. In most circumstances, the default reset string will suffice. If any settings are changed, they must be saved using the SAVE Icon effect until the next time that the downloader is started.. The changes will not take ACCeSS Lite 10/08/07 Page 6 of 26

Running the program To run the program, click on the ACCeSSLite icon on the desktop or in the Downloader folder located in Start Menu/Program/Downloader. When the program is run, a login is required. The default login is: User Name: admin Password: admin This will open up the Communication program called Port Server Lite, which is run in the background, and the main operator s screen called ACCeSS. All record management and panel communication can be controlled from the ACCeSS program. There is no need to click on the Port Server program. Note: Before any panel can communicate with the downloader, the panel must be programmed with a unique string called a System ID. This can be up to 16 Characters in length. Creating a record (site file) A record needs to be created in the database for every alarm panel that communicates with the downloading software. Each panel is identified against its record via the System/Remote ID field. There are two ways to create a record. A record can be created manually as described below, or automatically whenever a new panel dials into the downloader for the first time. If you have any concerns or difficulties regarding the creation of a new record, please contact your installer for help. Automatic record creation If a new, unrecognized panel dials in and it has a valid system ID, and a blank account number, the downloader performs the following actions: 1. Create a new record with the panel s System ID and assign it a temporary name called Virgin Caller along with the time and date 2. Perform a full upload to get the panels details 3. Pass control of the panel to the operator via the Call Monitor Window so that normal downloading operation can take place. Automatic record creation can only occur if an alarm panel dials the downloader. It cannot happen in other connection modes. Manual record creation Before a panel connects to the downloader it s best to create a record for it. Although panels which dial in to the downloader can automatically create records, a record must be created manually in order to use the Direct or Callback modes of connection, described below. Click on the new site icon. The screen shown below will appear: ACCeSS Lite 10/08/07 Page 7 of 26

The necessary fields are: Account name: This needs to have a unique title but is descriptive only. Panel Type: For Galaxy 2-20 or panels, select Galaxy 2 Series. For all other panels add menu for G3/Classic. System ID: This is the Unique System Identification code (usually the installation s Contract no) that needs to be programmed at the panel. For G2 see menu For G3 see menu This field is case sensitive and can be up to 16 characters in length. The downloader uses this field to identify which panel it is trying to connect to. Account No: This is account number used for alarm signalling via the Telecom module (Menu ). It is normally 4 digits but can be 6 digits if required. This is only important for V1.0 Galaxy 2 panels or panels that don t have the System ID programmed. Downloader ID: This is the ID code of the downloader and is how the panel knows that it s the correct PC which is dialling in. It s like a password to verify that the legitimate PC is trying to connect. However, it can be left at the default shown if not required. This is used on the Galaxy 2 series panels only. Port Number: This is the primary telephone number used for alarm signalling. If known, this should be entered here. IP address: This is the IP address used by the downloader identify which panel it is trying to connect to. The above fields cannot be edited here once the record has been created. The System ID is the field that will normally be checked when a panel contacts the downloader. Additionally, on Galaxy 2 panels with V1.0 software, the Account number will also be checked. If these fields don t match, then the panel will not connect successfully. Note: If the Account number is left blank at the downloader, then it must also be left blank at the panel. ACCeSS Lite 10/08/07 Page 8 of 26

Opening a record Once a record has been created, click on the Open Icon and from the list, double-click on the site required. The panel programming window will be opened. From here, all panel programming can be done. Down the left-hand side are page select buttons. Clicking on each of these will call up the appropriate area of programming in the main window, which can then be edited.. Getting a panel on-line Select the connection media (Via Modem / Via TCP/IP) from the Connection Media Menu. Communications with the panel can be initiated by selecting the Communications icon at the top of the screen. There are four ways of getting on-line with an Alarm panel: 1. Panel initiated where the Start Call Out command is activated on the panel via menu Direct (Remote) where the downloader dials the panel directly. 3. Call back Where the downloader dials the panel and activates a panel initiated call back. 4. Local Used for connecting directly to the panel via the RS232 lead. Ethernet encryption option is available if the connection media is TCP/IP. For an incoming call from the panel, no action is needed at the downloader. It will automatically answer any incoming call. For the other three modes, open up the record for that particular panel then initiate a connection using the Telephone icon then selecting the appropriate mode. Please note that if a call-back download number has been programmed into a Galaxy 2 Series panel, a direct connection cannot be made. It will be refused by the panel. Either Call back or Panel initiated modes must be used if a call-back number has been programmed. Connection process The downloader will perform specific checks when a panel is trying to connect; 1. It will check the Panel s Remote (System) ID field (programmed in menu option ). This field must be programmed and it must match the System ID programmed in the downloader. This field is case sensitive. 2. The downloader will then check that the Account number programmed in the panel matches that programmed in the downloader s record (G2 v1.0 only). This can be left blank at both ends if required. 3. The panel then checks the password (3 Series and Classic) or the Downloader ID (2 Series). By default this will be The default is the same on the panel as it is on a newly created record on the downloader. The Downloader ID is like a Password so that the panel knows the downloader is valid. The Downloader ID must always contain eight digits. Provided all these checks are completed successfully, the panel will come up on line. The progress of the connection process can be monitored on the Communication program. However, once the panel is on-line, the operator s program will show flashing lights in the top right corner of the screen as shown: The lights flash rapidly while trying to connect, and then ACCeSS Lite 10/08/07 Page 9 of 26

change to a slow flash when connection is established. If the connection process fails for any reason, a pop-up dialogue box will appear showing the reason for the failure. Call Monitor Window At any time, the Call Monitor window can be brought up by selecting Call Monitor from the Window drop-down menu, and turning the option on. This window shows any current live connections to alarm panels. If a panel is connected but the site data has not been opened by the operator, that site can be opened directly, simply by highlighting the site name then clicking on the Adopt button. If the call monitor function is set to Auto, the window can be hidden for normal use but it will automatically re-appear if a new connection is established. ACCeSS Lite 10/08/07 Page 10 of 26

On-line functions Once a panel is on-line, the normal range of functions can be performed as detailed below. One the left side of the screen are programming page buttons. Each selects a page of the panel s programming to view or modify. Along the top of the screen are icons to allow upload, download of programming and upload of the event log. The Hatchet icon disconnects the call to the panel. Its not possible to change the following items via the normal programming methods once the record has been created: Account number Port Number (Telephone no. 1 for ARC signalling) System/Remote ID Downloader ID (Galaxy 2 Series only) Password (Galaxy Classic and Galaxy 3 Series only) Because these items are used to identify the panel when it comes up on-line, they shouldn t be changed on a regular basis. However, they can be changed via the drop down menu called Account Details Changes. Unless an engineer has simultaneously made the same changes on site, it is recommended that the Account Detail Changes are only done whilst the panel is on-line. Various other on-line commands are available via the Panel drop-down menu. This includes the set/unset commands and the Abort command, which will abort the download/upload operation currently in progress. The latter function is useful if a download has been started but it becomes apparent that an additional change has still to be made. Off-line functions Various commands are available when the panel is not in communication with the downloader. Most of these commands are available via the drop-down menus. The main functions are described below. Printing The print icon can be used to print the currently viewed information. When printing the site programming details, the downloader will print only the page currently being viewed. Deleting Accounts When an account is deleted from the database, it will be held in a special storage area, much like the Windows recycle bin. This allows the account to be recovered if required. The Purge Database function will allow the deleted records to be completely deleted, permanently. The Purge function has no effect on records in the working database. Note: Deleted Records that have not yet been purged from the database will stop the unique System ID from being reused by another record. Once the deleted record has been purged, the System ID can be reused. ACCeSS Lite 10/08/07 Page 11 of 26

Roll Back Whenever a modification is made to the programming of a record, the original is not overwritten. Instead, a new copy of the record is created which contains the modifications and the original is retained. This has the advantage of allowing an operator to quickly revert back to a previous version of the programming. This is very useful if, for instance, problems arise with the new programming. When a record is open, selecting the Roll Back function will show the current (most recent) version of the programming, plus all the previous versions, each of which will be time and date stamped. Simply click on the version which is to be reloaded. User Management This function allows the administrator to add, remove and edit operator login details. Each operator will have a login name, password and a list of access rights, which can be added and removed as appropriate. When a user s rights have been changed, the changes will not take effect until the next time that user logs in. ACCeSS Lite 10/08/07 Page 12 of 26

Remote Routine Inspection (RRI) A Remote Routine Inspection is a regular system check of the installed system. It would usually occur on a yearly or six-monthly basis and assesses the system s health and performance. The software allows a report to be generated from the uploaded data by comparing the measured values with a previous known good set of values (baseline) and a list of absolute limits. The RRI report can be printed out and sent to the system s owner, informing them if their system has passed or failed the inspection. In each case recommendations can be made depending on the results. RRI Uploads The RRI data can be requested manually from the panel using the Request Remote Routine Inspection Data from the Panel menu. This will upload the inspection data into ACCeSS, along with the Event Log. Although an RRI upload can be carried out manually, it may be more efficient to program the installed alarm panel to automatically connect at the correct time for the inspection. RRI data will be uploaded each time a panel connects to the downloader automatically. This section describes the panel setup that is required to be carried out by installers for automatic uploads of RRI data. G2 Setup 1. Select the Callback number. For Telecom this is selected in menu option For GSM this is selected in menu option Select the mode of communication (PSTN or GSM) in menu option Enter the Call Date and the Call Time (see Parameter ). After every automatic upload, the Call Date must be changed to a new date. G3 Setup 1. Select Callback number 1. This is selected in menu option Enter the Start Time and End Time (see menu option ). The panel will dial out at a random time between the Start Time and End Time. 3. Enter the Schedule number of days (see menu option ). The number of days can be Select No Code/Notice (see menu option ). Preparing RRI Reports Once RRI data has been updated for a record, the data can be processed to generate a report. To work with RRI reports, select the account drop-down menu and then select Prepare RRI Reports. The following screen will be displayed: ACCeSS Lite 10/08/07 Page 13 of 26

All records which contain uploaded RRI information will be shown in this list. The past RRI uploads are shown along with the most recent data uploaded. RRI Icons Explained View RRI - This icon opens the selected RRI report for viewing and printing (see processed RRI report page 14). Print RRI - This icon prints the RRI report to the default printer. Export RRI - This icon puts the RRI report into the Honeywell folder where it can be ed in HTML format. The path to the folder is: C:\Program Files\Honeywell\ACCeSS Downloader\HTML. Process - This icon processes any number of selected accounts to give a pass or fail. This will simply update the status column in the list, it will not print the report. The Process icon can be used on any RRI Data and will display pass, fail and attention in the status column. New Baseline This icon allows a new set of values to be created for comparison of subsequent reports. Comment This icon allows a comment to be attached to the RRI report. Additionally, a pass, fail or attention message can be attached to the comment. Delete This icon allows the selected RRI sessions to be deleted. ACCeSS Lite 10/08/07 Page 14 of 26

Close This icon closes the RRI reports window. The Baseline report is the set of values for the panel that subsequent reports are compared to, so that the panel can be assessed. The report desired to be the Baseline can be selected using the New Baseline icon. There can only be one Baseline for each panel. By default, the first RRI data uploaded into the ACCeSS Downloader will become that panel s baseline. A baseline report can be processed, however there is limited use for this as it is just comparing the same data against the absolute limts. The Status column displays the current status of that particular RRI data. The following symbols can be shown: - = still to be processed = report has passed X = report has failed! = attention The Collected column displays the date when the RRI data was uploaded from the panel. The Processed column displays the date when the RRI data was processed by the operator. Additionally, there are filters available at the bottom of the screen to remove data which is not needed. The data can be filtered by System ID, Operator User Name or Filter on processed date to remove reports which have already been processed. This is a processed RRI report. It can be printed using the Print RRI icon. To escape back to ACCeSS, just exit the preview of the report. It is saved automatically. ACCeSS Lite 10/08/07 Page 15 of 26

ARC test (comms test) It is important to note that a comms test of any alarm communications device connected to the system can be automatically requested by the ACCeSS downloader. However, the success of the comms test must be manually verified in conjunction with the ARC. In order for the comms test to be carried out automatically, the function must be enabled in the port server editor program. See the set-up section for details. Standard texts The operator can edit sections of standard text used in all reports. It is recommended that the text files are edited to an appropriate style for the installers purposes. The texts are edit in the files located in the ACCeSS Downloader file structure (Default: C:\Program Files\Honeywell\ACCeSS Downloader). The following files are editable: Main introduction: Pass notice: Failure Notice: Attention notice: Report.txt RRIPass.txt RRIFailure.txt RRIAttention.txt The attention notice is given when there is no direct failure on the system but where there are circumstances that the user should be aware of. The report can show two addresses. The address shown at the top right of the report is the address of the installation to which the RRI data belongs. The address shown in the top left of the report is that of the site owner, if different from the installation address. NOTE: The record must have an address for the report to be sent to or the following message will appear: An Address must be added to the system s details before the RRI report can be processed. ACCeSS Lite 10/08/07 Page 16 of 26

RRI Menu Options The following options are available in the drop-down menus within the ACCeSS downloader when an account is open/connected. Panel - ARC Test This initiates a Comms Test signal to the Alarm Receiving Centre. If the panel is set up to report via PSTN, the downloader will be disconnected from the panel in order to allow the dialler to signal to the ARC. This will activate a test via any configured comms module as well as pulse any output programmed as comms test. NOTE: This is available in panel firmware G2 (all) and G3 v5.50 and above only Panel - Request Remote Routine Inspection Data This option allows an operator to manually request the remote routine inspection data from the panel currently connected and uploads it to the ACCeSS Downloader. This can be processed in the normal way later, as detailed above. RRI Setup There are several menu options which allow the RRI data processing to be customised. This can be done on a general system basis and can also be tailored per site. The general system settings are accessed via the drop menus shown under Options below: General RRI number of months to pass This is the RRI number of months to pass. It is the number of months until a warning is given that there is a new report to process. ACCeSS Lite 10/08/07 Page 17 of 26

Automatic ARC Test For automatic upload only, it is possible to configure ACCeSS to automatically activate an ARC comms test in the panel. The test will activate at the end of the call if no client/operator takes control of the connection. To set up the automatic comms test, open the port server editor program and in the General screen, check the box marked Do ARC test if no clients waiting for call. ACCeSS Lite 10/08/07 Page 22 of 26

Trouble Shooting Connection Errors If the downloader tries to connect to a panel but fails, one of the following error messages will appear: Error Message System ID Mismatch Account number mismatch Downloader ID request failed at the panel No Free Ports Confirmation of one way call was refused by the panel No Telephone number has been entered for this panel Link has been lost with the panel. No Carrier Cause The System ID of the current record is different to that of the panel. Check the panel programming. The Primary signalling account number programmed into the panel is different to that of the current record on the downloader. If the panel has an account number programmed in, then this must also be programmed into the record on the downloader The downloader ID at the programmed into the panel is different to that programmed into the current record on the downloader. The panel ID defaults to This is like a password so is not viewable at the panel. However, it can be reprogrammed via menu The downloader cannot access any modem that has been set up for that panel type. Check, using the PSEdit program, that at least one of the ports has been set up for the appropriate panel type, and that the Port Server Lite screen shows a Red telephone against the panel type. See below for more details on the Port Server window. On the Galaxy 2 series panels, if they have a downloader callback number programmed, it will not be possible to make a direct on-way call from ACCeSS Lite. Either try a Callback connection or delete the Callback phone number in the panel in menu The downloader cannot dial out because the Panel Telephone Number has not been entered in Edit Account. This telephone number is required for any connection involving Telecoms. Connection was established with panel but was cut off. This can be because the Access Period is set to When Unset and the panel is set. This message will also appear if the panel has to signal out when connected with downloader. Phone line being used is busy (home owner on phone). ACCeSS Lite 10/08/07 Page 23 of 26
