5 Introduction Transition from JMAG-Designer to JMAG As of July, 2006, JMAG-Studio and JMAG-Designer have been integrated and relabeled as JMAG. In the coming years, we will be offering JMAG which is the combination of JMAG-Studio s fully featured program and JMAG-Designer s user friendliness, as a comprehensive package with all their advantages. 5

6 Concept Overview JMAG-Designer is: The next generation Pre/Post system that will be the most advanced major product among our JMAG series for 3D electromagnetic analysis. A stand-alone software, and does not depend on other systems. Configured with strong compatibilities between the CAD-like interface which is easy to use not only for simulation experts but for designers and 3D CAD data that is becoming the main stream in the designing field. Equipped with CAD link, multi-project format, and automation features useful for multiphysics analysis and parametric analysis. 6

7 Concept Overview Integrated Processing with JMAG-Studio JMAG-Studio assists JMAG-Designer as a Pre/Post system with the following tasks: 2D model creation 3D manual mesh generation Control management for a range of tools Analysis or coupled analysis other than magnetic field analysis. JMAG-Studio ver8.4 and JMAG-Designer ver3.4 maintain their compatibilities using the input/output files below. JCF files Plot files (Plot file converter) 7

8 Features: Treeview In the main window, all information are displayed in the treeview which the users find more convenient making it similar to using the CAD software. JMAG-Designer Main Window 8

9 Features: Treeview The data of an analysis are stored by each project that contains a study. Study A study can be duplicated within the treeview. When using multiple models with slightly different geometries such as the ones in parametric analysis, the material properties and conditions can be reused by duplicating the corresponding study. 10 Features: Circuit Editor This feature couples circuit analysis required for the electric control and magnetic field analysis together. The circuit can be created by an independent editor and arranged in the treeview in any way you wish. Circuit Editor 10

13 Features: Condition Setting The material properties and other conditions can be set by directly dragging the condition to be set onto the model. For motion or rotation axis of torque, appropriate vectors can be set simply by clicking on a pertinent surface or line on the model. Drag the item to be set 13

15 Features: Permanent Magnet For the permanent magnet, highly reliable material database contributed by the major magnet manufacturers is available. A variety of magnetic patterns useful for rotating machine analysis are equipped as standard. 16 Features: Automatic Mesh Generation Using this tool helps you generate mesh quickly in the air region which is critical in magnetic field analysis. It also gives the precise control over the size of mesh generated on the block, surface, lines, and points. 17 Features: Automatic Mesh Generation for Rotating Machine Analysis Using this tool allows for automatic generation of the mesh consistent for both rotor and fixed portion, according to the rotation required in the rotating machine analysis. 18 Features: Adaptive Mesh The solver identifies the region with a great variation in the physical quantity to apply fine mesh allowing for an efficient analysis with the automatically generated optimal mesh. Second adaptive iteration Third adaptive iteration First adaptive iteration 18

20 Features: Interpolation of Magnetic Flux Density The accuracy of magnetic flux density calculation depends on the mesh size. When the mesh is not uniform, the magnetic flux density becomes uneven. Interpolating the magnetic flux density based on integration makes the magnetic flux distribution even and smooth without being affected by the mesh resolution. Magnetic flux density of the region with no mesh can be calculated with this feature. 21 Features: Multiple Cut Planes This feature allows the user to check magnetic flux distribution within a model by cutting the model at different angles. More than one plane can be selected. Cut along one cut plane Cut along two cut planes 21

22 Features: Animation/Result Files Export The model displayed with vectors or contours can be magnified and rotated while playing its animation. Results can be written into AVI files, and it can be viewed by exporting it into the HSF format, even in an environment where JMAG-Designer is not available. 23 Features: Automation The automation interface enables the script to run using VB Script and Python, and other scripts. Model geometries can be made parametric by operating JMAG-Designer through the CAD system. 24 Summary JMAG-Designer is the electromagnetic simulation software that can be easily utilized by the users ranging from designers to simulation experts because of its CAD-like usability. Application of CAD data makes it possible to introduce magnetic field analysis into the existing design process smoothly leading to the capability of real-time evaluation of product design. JMAG-Designer will continue to be refined to enable complex multiphysics analysis by adding more coupling tools. 24
