Anyone with an interest in the programming of CNC machinery or in the CAD/CAM industry Workshop Practice or equivalent industry experience. Familiarity with the Windows operating environment. Using the latest proprietary computer aided machining (CAM) software, the course provides an introduction to CAD for machining purposes: 2½ axis CNC milling 3 axis CNC milling Simple surface machining 2 axis CNC lathe turning 2 and 4 axis CNC wire EDM The course is assessed via projects and tests. CAM 2 (EdgeCAM) Course Code: NZQA Unit Standard Training relevant to unit standards and To enable participants to safely use CAD/CAM software in a production engineering environment. Anyone with an interest in the programming of CNC machinery or in the CAD/CAM industry CAM 1 This course builds on the skills learnt in CAM 1 to enable students to produce cutting data files for CNC machine tools and then use these skills in a simulated environment through the completion of a project. 5 Workshop Practice Course Code: and To introduce participants to a range of manufacturing processes and operations and enable them to follow safe working practices. Anyone with an interest in the manufacturing industries. None This hands-on course for engineering apprentices, machinists, manufacturing personnel, operators and production staff introduces students to the safe use of tools and machines used in an engineering environment, including the selection and application of speeds and feeds. Practical projects may include: drilling machines milling machines lathes grinding machines hand and measurement tools (files, thread cutting tools, micrometers, vernier callipers and gauges) Manufacturing Processes Course Code: None To provide students with a broad appreciation of the common mechanical engineering manufacturing processes, so as to enable the selection and specification of appropriate manufacturing processes and the supporting equipment and tooling. Anyone with an interest in the manufacturing industries Workshop Practice or equivalent industry experience. Topics include: Casting, machining, forging, rolling, fabrication, extrusion, surface finishing Selection of machine tools (manual and computer controlled) Selection of cutting tools Organisational structures, including progression Product specification, capital cost, tool costs, costeffectiveness, regulatory requirements Students may also choose to work on their own projects, by prior arrangement with the class tutor. The course is assessed via practical projects. (Students may request assessment against relevant unit standards. These assessments will, however, incur an additional fee and must be agreed with the Head of Division prior to the commencement of the class). 7 Programme Structure: The CIM Diploma has been designed as a one hundred and twenty (120) credit part time programme at NQF Level 5 that can also be completed through one year of full time study. Graduates of the Diploma programme will be awarded a minimum of 120 MIT credits at the CIM Diploma, by successfully completing the five (5) compulsory courses and four (4) optional courses. The optional courses chosen must include sufficient courses at Level 5 in order to give an overall Level 5 credit value of at least 72 credits. Once completed, you will be awarded a minimum of one hundred and twenty (120) MIT credits (with a minimum of 72 at Level 5) and the CIM Diploma.
