The last date to meet the requirements is 31 December Purpose The National Certificate in Funeral Directing is awarded to people who have demonstrated competence in funeral directing. Holders of this qualification are able to: apply knowledge of the law and the philosophy of funeral directing to funeral directing practice; arrange, organise and direct a funeral; organise post funeral activities; communicate and support bereaved families and refer them to support services; and prepare a casket for viewing and burial or cremation. It is intended that this qualification will contribute, and lead on, to the National Diploma in Funeral Services [Ref: 0459]. Replacement Information This qualification and the National Diploma in Funeral Services [Ref: 0459] have been replaced by the National Diploma in Funeral Directing [Ref: 1330]. Special Notes It is recommended that candidates hold a current first aid certificate or Unit 6402, Provide resuscitation level 2. Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the purpose of award. The table of mutually exclusive standards is provided in section 7 of the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) Rules and Procedures publications available at Reviewed standards that continue to recognise the same overall outcome are registered as new versions and retain their identification number (ID). Any version of a standard with the same ID may be used to meet qualification requirements that list the ID and/or that specify the past or current classification of the standard. Previous versions of the qualification Version 5 of this qualification and the National Diploma in Funeral Services [Ref: 0459] have been replaced by the National Diploma in Funeral Directing [Ref: 1330].

For the purposes of this qualification people who have gained credit for the expiring standards that are no longer in this version, are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards see table below. Credit for Exempt from Version 4 was issued in order to update content following reviews and revisions of various unit standards. People currently working towards version 3 of this qualification may either complete the requirements for that version or transfer their results to the replacement qualification. The last date for completion of version 3 was 31 December Version 3 was issued to reflect the outcomes of unit standard reviews and revisions. Version 2 was issued to reflect the outcome of the review of three Funeral Services unit standards. Unit standards 8343, 8344, and 8347 had been reviewed and risen in level from level 4 to level 5. This had an impact on the qualification, which also increased in level from 4 to 5. Classification This qualification is classified according to the NQF classification system and the New Zealand Standard Classification of Education (NZSCED) system as specified below.
