IS06009 Exporter E2X Configuration INFORMATION SHEET 1 INTRODUCTION This document describes how to configure a Nautel Exporter with the Nautel E2X encapsulation mode. 2 EXPORTER CONFIGURATION The E2X encapsulation mode is configured apart from the exporter main GUI system. Setup both the exporter GUI and the E2X Configurator as shown below. Typical IP address configurations are as follows: Exporter Importer Exgine Starting the E2X Configurator The E2X Configurator can be started from within the Exporter GUI (see Figure 1) as follows: (a) Select System Command. This may prompt you to enter the Exporter password. (b) Enter e2xconfig in the Command dialog box. NOTE Alternatively, the e2xconfig command can be invoked from any command prompt on the system (telnet, system console, etc.). This is particularly useful when remotely controlling the exporter. (c) Deselect Display virtual keyboard if a keyboard is connected to the system. (d) Do not check Display Results (e) Click the Execute button. A screen similar to Figure 2 should appear. Figure 1: Starting the E2X Configurator Exporter E2X Configuration Page 1 of 7 IS06009 Issue 1.0
NOTE Paragraphs 2.2 through 2.9 describe the setup for each of the (2) through (9) options selected in Figure 2. No changes made through the E2X configurator will take effect until the changes are saved (9) and the exporter GUI is restarted. 2.2 Enabling E2X Encapsulation See Figure 3. This option should be enabled by default. E2X encapsulation should only be disabled to allow backwards compatibility. Figure 2: E2X Encapsulation Configurator Screen Figure 3: E2X Encapsulation Enable/Disable Screen Page 2 of 7 Issue 1.0 Exporter E2X Configuration IS06009
2.3 Configuring the Exgine IP Address See Figure 4. The E2X configuration module does not receive the Exgine IP address from the Exporter GUI, so the Exgine IP address must be re-entered here. When selecting broadcast mode, the IP address will be configured as In this case the E2X encapsulation software will detect the exporter s IP address and netmask and broadcast on the exporter s subnet only. In most cases, enter the IP address of the destination Exgine. For a main/standby configuration, broadcast mode is required. Figure 4: Configuring Exgine IP Address Screen Exporter E2X Configuration Page 3 of 7 IS06009 Issue 1.0
2.4 Configuring the Exgine Mac Address See Figure 5. The Exgine Ethernet MAC address is required when the address resolution protocol cannot reach or return from Exgine, such as in the case of a unidirectional STL. This will add a static entry to the exporter s address table. Using a MAC address of 00:00:00:00:00:00 ensures that no static entry is made in the address table for exgine s IP address. When using broadcast mode, the MAC address must be cleared. 2.5 Setting E2X Encapsulation Numbers It is not expected that these port numbers need to change unless there is a port conflict in the network. The default settings are: Data plane port: 3632 Control plane master port: 3630 Control plane slave port: 3631 Figure 5: Configuring Exgine MAC Address Screen Page 4 of 7 Issue 1.0 Exporter E2X Configuration IS06009
2.6 Setting the STL Link Bandwidth Two parameters control the E2X encapsulation segment scheduling total link bandwidth and main bandwidth. The total link bandwidth (see Figure 6) allocated to this E2X stream determines the maximum number of data segments that can be sent in a period of time and determines when the segments are scheduled to be transmitted. This parameter should not exceed the available bandwidth across the link to avoid congestion across the link. The main bandwidth (see Figure 7) parameter indicates how much bandwidth is allocated to the actual data stream without retransmissions. This parameter smoothes out the instantaneous bandwidth requirements inherent in the E2X data stream, but should always be greater than the average E2X data stream throughput requirements. It is not expected that this parameter needs to be changed from its default of 150 kbps. Figure 6: Setting Total Link Bandwidth Screen Figure 7: Setting Main Bandwidth Screen Exporter E2X Configuration Page 5 of 7 IS06009 Issue 1.0
2.7 Enabling Data Retransmissions There may be a few cases where it is undesirable for the exporter to react to retransmission requests coming from Exgine. In these cases, disable data retransmission. In all other cases, leave data retransmissions enabled. 2.9 Saving the E2X Configuration See Figure 8. All configuration changes are only made in memory until they are committed to the hard drive by saving the configuration. If you do not want to save the configuration, simply exit the Configurator, which will revert all changes. 2.8 Enabling Time Scheduling This option is enabled by default. Contact Nautel before attempting to change (disable) this option. Figure 7: Saving Configuration File Screen Page 6 of 7 Issue 1.0 Exporter E2X Configuration IS06009
2.9 Configuring the Exporter GUI for E2X Encapsulation Mode If E2X encapsulation mode is to be used, configure the exporter GUI to a loopback address of , in unidirectional mode, as shown in Figure 8.
