Building System Control Why EES? Use best-in-class backward compatible hardware American Automatrix and Cylon authorized DDC integrator Industrial PLCs Control flexibility: mixed tonnage, multi-fuel chiller plants, multiple pumping configurations, and control strategies. Designed for retrofit or new construction EES Chiller Algorithms and standard code Full documentation Owner can maintain the system (no onerous service contracts) Includes AutoCAD drawings, loop drawings, O&M Manuals, and software Full training during project execution and at the end for operator input / buy in Serviced by any local system integrator 1/25/2016 Integrate airside to optimize facility
Building System Control Why EES? Customized to run system in most efficient and reliable manner. Thermodynamic decisions with critical weighting on all variables Automatic backup on all equipment Auto changeover from mechanical cooling to alternate/free cooling Cooling tower optimization Real time plant efficiency tracking with diagnostics to alarm when out of specification Optimized load differential pressure control Clean room / production space active pressure control Expert system

Data Centers General rule for use of energy in a data center 50% to IT equipment 50% to infrastructure UPS, PDU, chillers, CRAC, humidifiers, lighting, switchgear/generator With electrical cost at $0.12 per kw hr, annual cost for each kw of IT load is $2000 So for 800 kw data center = $1,600,000 per year electrical cost Can t manage what you don t know Green Grid recommends frequent if not real time metering of all energy in a data center.
Data Centers The EES Advantage Infrastructure from multiple vendors CRAC Unit / airside / chilled water Electrical power distribution to cabinets Lighting Emergency Systems Integrates multivendor information into a single web-based HMI dashboard for IT and energy managers. Controls CRAC unit air delivery automatically to optimize air side within the data center. Schedules lighting so circuits can be turned off during unoccupied times. Track availability and reliability of PDU and emergency systems. Breaker level analysis
Bottom Up.from the PDU Ability to enter breaker number and cabinet location Actual amp reading from circuit Actual watts for the circuit Warning and alarm setpoints Energy usage reports per PDU
Airside Control in a Data Center Overdesigned HVAC systems Optimized VFD control Under floor pressure Humidification / dehumidification override Fully automated to maximize savings Savings on fan power translates down to efficiency in central plant Use temperature profiles to determine hot spots Add cost of environmental control to Energy Reporting
The bigger picture.
Professional Services 24/7/365 System Contracts 800 number to contact engineers EES installed systems or 3 rd party system maintenance Want EES vs. locked into / need EES Commissioning and Validation Member of Building Commissioning Association LEED-EB and LEED-NC projects on controls, mechanical, and electrical GAMP validation for pharma clients on production HVAC Calibration have full set of in-house calibration and testing instruments Consulting unique SYSTEMS approach Brought in as a controls subconsultant Professional engineers on staff
Cutting Edge Energy Applications OTEC International LLC Temperature difference in seawater Provide free energy Microturbine waste heat optimization Heat for absorption chiller Waste heat hot water, space, boiler feeds, process Modernization Strategic Utility Management Multiple chiller fuel source Switch based on cost and efficiency Cogen Plants
Transportation Specialize in critical ventilation systems for tracks and bridge control systems. Industrial controls with high degree of reliability Partner with engineering firms PB Americas Jacobs JBB ARUP Design, installation, and service of systems Reliability on communications and SCADA nodes 24/7/365 call center with local response within 4 hours at site. Samples MTA currently maintain all PLC systems in the MTA for bridges and tunnels Amtrak Empire Line Overbuilds 15+ buildings Manhattan West Hudson Yards
Pharmaceutical & Production HVAC Validation Master Plans and User Requirements Specifications dictate need Commissioning of HVAC systems only Commissioning and Validation of HVAC systems Direct impact / non-direct impact / no impact QBMS = Qualified Building Management System Extension of EES capabilities into regulated environment Reduce lost product Industrial-based with fully documented code QBMS Coordinator to fill gaps Run pharmaceutical facility reliably AND in most energy efficient manner. Experience with OEM equipment
Clean Rooms and Labs Natural extension of EES pharmaceutical experience Control lab supply air amount of hood exhaust required Detect open sashes on hoods and alarm Active space pressure control Vary the air entering spaces based on pressure / classifications Energy efficiency translates down to the chilled water plant Maintaining room pressure is of paramount importance
So What Do These Have in Common? Automated evasive action to start backup equipment when running equipment has failed without operator intervention and maintain the controlled process. Automatically allows free cooling to run, even during the summer, if ambient conditions are available so as to minimize energy usage. Reduction of energy consumption at an industrial facility to the point where the utility was suspect of its own meter and wanted to change it out. Control the process of a utility plant to produce free energy from the temperature difference in ocean water. Automatically sheds cooling load to maintain critical cooling for a manufacturing process to complete thereby saving the product with an estimated street value of $2 million. Control a 56,000 ton district cooling plant to 0.1 degree Fahrenheit deadband from setpoint while maintaining overall plant efficiency. Optimize chilled water plants in the Caribbean by measuring electrical data and running equipment as efficiently as possible.
