3 Data Center Connectivity (DCI) Data Center 2 Data Center 1 Dark fiber is required between data centers (DCI) for synchronous connectivity So DWDM is used to transport all SAN and WAN traffic over a single dark fiber But DWDM has been historically expensive and complicated to run More economical to run own WDM network no need to rent managed servcies
