2 ERicsson pau The Ericsson Photonic Attachment Unit (PAU) family provides a variety of DWDM networking functions for building the photonic network layer for Ericsson s family of Packet Optical Transport Platforms (POTPs). The PAU s compact and modular architecture supports for a range of configurations from an Optical Terminal Amplifier (OTA) to an N-way Reconfigurable Optical Add Drop Multiplexer (). The embedded technology of the PAU with its inclusive architecture enables simple optical planning, design and implementation. Local and Management OSC Alarm I/O Compact FLASH Fan Module Pluggable EDFA 36V to 72V Attenutation Adjust As an external, photonic attached unit under the control of a shelf, the PAU provides simple and flexible DWDM scalability. As an external device, it does not occupy any slot capacity of the host enabling maximum utilization of the shelf for services. The PAU is available in four variants: 2-way, 4-way, 9-way and OTA. As a, the PAU uses wavelength selectable switch (WSS) technology to support the Add/Drop of 48 and 96 channels allowing the insertion and the extraction of individual channels from the DWDM aggregate. Through the optical channel monitor (OCM), the PAU provides optical equalization across all wavelengths by automatically adjusting optical power levels for add/drop and express traffic. For each aggregate and add/drop port on the PAU, the OCM provides the number of channels detected; channel wavelengths; and each channel Optical Signal to Noise Ratio (OSNR). The OSC is implemented by means of CWDM SFP Fast Ethernet optical transceivers with an operative wavelength of 1511nm, one for each WDM line. The DSA allows for connecting a dispersion compensation module (DCM) in the inter stage section between the amplifier stages.
