Trial 1 Introduction Scope The scope of the WP1 trial is to execute Demand Side Management and Demand Side Response tests with external buildings in the Hyllie district, Malmö, Sweden, based on an integrated approach of energy carriers Desired outcomes How Future Internet technologies can contribute to an efficient and robust Demand Side Management system Proof of concept and evaluation on solution which architecture is based on distributed energy management capability and centralized portfolio management Evaluate and test different business model(s) according to defined use cases to obtain better view on Demand Side Management and Demand Side Response as well as ideas on customer s potential to act as balancing power Scale-up strategy for the trial, e.g. ability for other towns/regions/business sectors to use the results/functionality Hyllie, Malmö Participants E.ON, RWTH Aachen ICT for Smart Energy Field Trials Ericsson Internal Page 14 Page 14
Trial 2 introduction Motivation: Support the change of end user behaviour towards a more optimal usage of renewable energy when available. Create an opportunity for entrepreneurs and SMEs to implement, test and improve new prosumer services, thus fostering innovation. Scope: The WP will follow two streams of activities: Energy management in a community of 25 single family houses in the Horsens area Energy management in a commercial office building in Madrid Objectives: Evaluate the value provided by enabling innovative services to prosumers using FI Generic Enablers in the two trial sites. Jointly, the two streams of activities will address the following objectives: 1. Enable value added services through an open FI based platform with FINESCE APIs, offering rich data on energy needs and consumption patterns. 2. Promote energy efficiency via incentives from the energy market place and dynamic tariffs. ICT for Smart Energy Field Trials Ericsson Internal Page 15

Talking Energy! Smart Grids mean new communications networks for utilities Existing systems can be developed into solutions addressing many of the requirements for Smart Grids Many utilities have little awareness of the opportunities of scale and scope which an IP based network offers them it opens up a world of innovation to them The FINESCE presentation on ICT for utilities at the Utilinet conference in Brussels in July was voted the most interesting presentation of the whole event by participants ICT for Smart Energy Field Trials Ericsson Internal Page 38
Talking Energy! The range of requirements placed on the ICT systems by some of the smart grid use cases is extreme, particularly in terms of availability, reliability, latency and security. If 5G meets all the requirements, it could be the basis for a single network for utilities. A workshop on 5G will be run with the Metis project in Brussels on 17 th January, FINESCE will determine if the latest optical networking and switching is fast enough to fulfill the most challenging requirements in an energy network for sub 3 millisecond latency communications in the Irish trial of optical networks Use cases investigations in the low and medium voltage consumer and distribution networks have scope for API s which create a basis for business innovation the FINESCE API is showing utilities how it can be done ICT for Smart Energy Field Trials Ericsson Internal Page 39
FINESCE concept development From an API towards a platform Enabling utilities to engage with SMEs, bringing innovation and new revenue streams to their business models SMEs would describe to utilities how they would gain value from the applications using the platform, helping the utilities to develop new business We could potentially build parts of the platform in FINESCE and promote it to the energy sector, accelerating it s adoption of modern ICT ICT for Smart Energy Field Trials Ericsson Internal Page 40
Outlook up to May 2014 Most of trial build up activities will have been completed Most parts of trials will go live with real customer in the period Workshop on 5G requirements will be run on 17 th January in Brussels and slides and a short summary will be available afterwards (short vc could be run to report on it if there is interest) Demonstrations in Brussels on April 2/3 are planned Reports on the trial design will be available end of February 2014 Detailed planning for open days will be prepared and some run New partners, SMEs, will join the project in April 2014 ICT for Smart Energy Field Trials Ericsson Internal Page 41
