Introduction The Digital Accessibility: Web Essentials (DAWE) course aims to equip individuals and businesses with the tools to make their website accessible and open it up to the widest possible audience. This 90 minute online course is designed to prepare you in accessibility best practice with a fundamental understanding of digital inclusion. You can download the syllabus from At the end of the course, you will complete a short exam, leading to a certificate of completion from BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT. The exam consists of 30 multiple-choice questions, of which 23 correct answers are required to achieve a pass (75%). There is no time limit and you are not required to take the whole exam in one session. If you fail the exam, you can attempt it again. A certificate will not be generated until you receive a pass mark. This short guide is designed to assist you in using the Mosaic platform that hosts the DAWE qualification. 4 2. Registration and Login Once you have purchased the course you will be sent a licence key for each learner account. Please use the following instructions, along with a licence key, to register yourself for the DAWE course and exam. 2.1 Visit Under the Self Register section, click the Register with licence key button. 5 2.3 Enter your licence key on the next screen, along with a suitable username and password. 2.4 Also enter your name and contact details in the More details section. NB: The name you enter at this point will appear on your certificate of completion. 2.5 Click Create my new account. Your account will be created and you will be prompted to login. 2.6 Enter your details into the User Name and Password fields and click Login. Page 5 of 12

Accessing the Courseware Once registered, the following instructions will help you access your course: 3.1 Visit Type in your username and password If you do not yet have a username and password, please see section Read the Student Instructions 3.4 Click My Courses on the My Profile navigation pane. 3.5 On the My current modules page, click Digital Accessibility: Web Essentials. 7 3.6 Click your choice of courseware, available in Flash or HTML. NB: The Flash course should be used by most learners. The HTML course is designed to increase compatibility with screen reader products. 3.7 On the course page, click View Tutorial to see walkthrough of how to use the courseware, or you can click Start Course to begin the course. 8 3.8 The course will pop up in a new window upon launch. 3.9 Continue to navigate your way through the course, choosing topic pages from the course map on the left-hand side. You can use the right-hand navigation panel for returning to the course map, view a glossary of terms, to change voice over audio volume, to replay a page audio or to exit. Page 8 of 12

9 4. Accessing the Exam Upon completing the course, you can attempt the DAWE Exam. The following instructions can be used to guide you through accessing the exam. 4.1 Login to the course, using the instructions at the top of section Return to the main DAWE course page and choose Digital Accessibility: Web Essentials Exam. 4.3 To begin the test, click Attempt quiz now. 10 You will be shown 30 questions which you need to answer. All are multiple-choice and need to be answered by clicking one of the radio buttons. The exam can also be answered using keyboard shortcuts. You can rotate through question answers by using the up and down arrow keys on your keyboard and press the Enter key to select an answer, then to move to the next question, press the tab key. 4.4 To save your progress, but not submit the exam for marking, please click the Save without submitting button. 4.5 To submit your exam for marking, click Submit all and Finish. Once you have submitted your result for marking, you will be taken to the results screen. Please see section 5 for information on how to print your exam certificate. Page 10 of 12

11 5. Downloading your Exam Certificate Once you pass the exam, a certificate will be generated in PDF format. The following will show you how to view, print or download this file. 5.1 Login to the course and return to the DAWE main course page. 5.2 Click Certificate for Digital Accessibility: Web Essentials. 5.3 On the new page, click Get your Certificate. 12 Your certificate will then be generated and your default PDF reader will launch, or you will be prompted to save the file. From within your default PDF reader application, you will be able to print or save the PDF file to your local PC. Page 12 of 12
