1 Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) Apprenticeship Year 3 IMECH 3 Trades Training Program Outline PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION DATE: January 2004 OUTLINE EFFECTIVE DATE: January 2018 PROGRAM OUTLINE REVIEW DATE: September 2023 GENERAL PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: This Millwright program delivers the Year 3 technical training competencies required in the British Columbia Industrial Mechanic Millwright apprenticeship trade. This program delivers the technical and practical training required for Level 3 of the 4-year Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) Apprenticeship program. Apprentices will cover theory related to power transmissions, pumps and material handling. This program provides the skills, knowledge and training related to installing, maintaining, troubleshooting and servicing equipment, power transmissions, hydraulic circuits, positive and non-positive displacement pumps, material handling equipment and conveyors. Safe work practices related to the industrial mechanic trade are reinforced throughout the program. Credential Granted: Upon successful completion of the 7 week Level 3 Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) Apprenticeship program, students receive: Level 3 Technical Training credit of the Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) Apprenticeship program from the Industry Training Authority. Delivery: This program is delivered face-to-face in block intake. PROGRAM COMPETENCIES: Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to level, align and secure equipment; describe power transmission theory; service couplings, gear drives, belt drives, clutches and brakes, chain drives; describe, assemble and maintain hydraulic circuits; explain pump theory; identify types of pumps; install, maintain and troubleshoot positive and non-positive displacement pumps; explain material handling theory; maintain fans and blowers; identify types of conveyors; describe methods of conveyor loading and uploading and types of process tanks and storage; and maintain conveyor systems. Regular attendance is encouraged for success in this program. Competency in the techniques and methods necessary to a given trade requires significant supervised practice. Students are expected to follow Policy "Vocational Student Withdrawals as a Result of Absence". WorkSafeBC regulations apply to all trades programs. Students are expected to behave accordingly. Students must have safety-toed footwear for shop activities. This footwear must be worn at all times in the shop. Trades programs require that students own, use and maintain proper eye safety wear and work clothes (coveralls). Safety procedures must be followed while working in the shop area. The tool room attendant is also the first aid attendant for the building. Students may only work in the shop during assigned lab times. 6 INDUSTRY SITE VISITS: There may be off-site work practicums and field trips organized in the program as opportunity or resources are available during this program. Students ARE REQUIRED to supply their own transportation for practicums and field trips. Students are expected to follow all college policies and procedures when participating in off-campus activities. Individual instructors may accommodate for illness or personal crisis. Additional accommodation will not be made unless a written request is sent to and approved by the appropriate Department Head prior to the scheduled exam. Any student who misses a scheduled exam without approval will be given a grade of 0 for the exam. PROGRAM GRADE: Program grades are assigned as follows: COM Completed to defined standard 70% NCG No Credit Granted < 70% Successful completion of the in-school training for each level is defined as a final score of 70% or greater.
