1 Mobile Backhaul & the Role of Carrier Ethernet Course Code Duration PDN048 5 Day Course Price 3,385 Course Description The mobile environment is evolving rapidly with ever increasing demands for greater bandwidth and guaranteed service delivery for multimedia applications. Mobile Operators have the responsibility of evolving the Radio Access Network infrastructure as well as the Core network itself. Early deployments of 3GPP technologies used legacy transport technology to connect base station equipment to network controllers. The industry is rapidly moving to all-ip packet-based networks. Considerable cost savings can be achieved by migrating to Packet-based Mobile Backhaul, and some Mobile Operators are looking to outsource the Mobile Backhaul to other Operators. This course explains the principles and concepts of Mobile Backhaul, reviews current mobile network architectures and technologies, and introduces and examines the drivers for change. Technology choices for packet-based networks and backhaul transport technologies are covered in depth before examining the role of Carrier Ethernet in the Mobile Backhaul. MEF-defined Carrier Ethernet Service Definitions and service attributes are introduced and examined with emphasis on their application and use cases for Mobile Backhaul. Functional requirements of the Mobile Backhaul such as Synchronisation, Resilience, Quality of Service, and Security are introduced and the technology options available to meet those requirements are examined. The MEF MBH Implementation Agreement (MEF 22.1) and CoS Implementation Agreement (MEF 23.1) are examined and the course concludes with an examination of MBH solution alternatives. Target Audience Who Should Attend: Technical Engineers, Product Managers/Engineers, System Architects working within Mobile Operator networks or Carrier Ethernet/Mobile Backhaul Service Provision, and anyone requiring an in-depth knowledge of Mobile Backhaul and the role of Carrier Ethernet within mobile backhaul.
