2 Vision Create an opportunity for the UAE to be a global leader in Education and Research. Mission Provide Leading Edge Network Infrastructure to centers of Learning and Research within the UAE to foster collaboration and cooperation between them. Provide for connectivity with peers at the international level to effectively participate and collaborate in research activities.
3 Objectives The range of activities facilitated by ANKABUT will allow individuals and organizations to push back the traditional boundaries of teaching, learning and research methods. To provide for effective communication and collaboration between students, researchers and institutions. ANKABUT has a central role to play in the realization of this potential and the achievement of client and government objective. Help educational institutions to advance their IT infrastructure.
4 Objectives Support changing client needs through delivery of existing and new value-added services to staff, students and researchers. Strengthen ties with the wider education sector while enhancing core services for the higher education sector. Secure on-going funding and resources to achieve network objectives. Demonstrate good value for money.
5 About ANKABUT What is ANKABUT? ANKABUT is a dedicated advanced network connecting academic and research institutions at speeds typically 100 times faster than commercial Internet. Who are the users of ANKABUT? Around 28 public universities, colleges and schools will be connected during the trial launch. As the network matures, more institutions (both public and private) will join ANKABUT.
6 About ANKABUT Who funds ANKABUT? ANKABUT is funded through several research funds, including: Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) though its ICT fund. Khalifa University of Science, Technology And Research (KUSTAR) What kind of work is done on ANKABUT? ANKABUT is primarily used for research

25 Applications Other Potential Applications
26 Prerequisites for universities IP connectivity The universities require Dark Fiber connectivity as private transportation for connecting their branches. Each branch has its own private IP addressing scheme which is separated from ANKABUT network and different from other branches to be connected.
27 Provided To universities: ME3400 (Access device) provides connectivity for IPv6 & IPv4. Each university has two IP Pools for ANKABUT connectivity, one for IPv4 and another for IPv6. 3 VLANs are provided (internet2 IPv4 and IPv4&IPv6 & IP connectivity(vpn)).
28 Provided To universities: Port allocation: IP connectivity VLAN is extended to first two ports and Internet2 VLAN is extended to next 10 ports. Master design for connectivity between branches shall be discussed and mutually agreed.

30 Features Unrestricted and Separate dedicated network topology. One Gigabits per second (1Gbps) connectivity to the end user. Ten Gigabits per second (10Gbps) core network. Flexibility through readily scalable infrastructure. IPv6 - fully compliant network. Nation wide coverage Annual membership fees. International connectivity to Internet2 in the USA (first stage). International connectivity to Geant2 in Europe (second stage). Local interconnectivity of campuses through a dedicated Virtual Private Network (VPN).
