3 Application Overview This document describes the necessary steps to configure the TS8000 HMI to communicate as a slave on the Profibus DP network. The configurations described in this document all require the installation of an 8000/PB/00 Profibus option card in the TS8000 HMI. Please note that the TS8000 Profibus card functions as a Profibus slave only, and that a thirdparty Profibus master is required to establish and configure the actual Profibus DP network. The following example describes the methods necessary to connect the TS8000 to a Siemens S7-300 PLC, which will function as the Profibus DP master node. Configuring The TS8000 HMI 1. Configure the 8000/PB/00 Profibus option card. Install the 8000/PB/00 option card in the TS8000 as per the provided instructions. For more information, please refer to: HA TS8000 Profibus Installation Manual. Run the DSI8000 software package. Navigate to the Communications section of DSI8000. In the tree on the left, select TS8000 from the top of the tree. Select the Edit button at the right, and select the Profibus Option Card from the dialog box. In the tree at the left, select Profibus Interface from under the Profibus Option Card item. Page 1

4 At the right, select Edit, from the Driver Picker section. Select the DP driver from the popup window. Select the Profibus Interface from the tree at the left, and set the appropriate Station Address. Page 2

5 2. Configure the Data Tags. Create a sample tag for to read and write a value from the Profibus network. In this example, we have defined a tag to read an integer value and write an integer value to the S7 PLC. Address the tags to the appropriate Profibus mappings. These mappings are defined in the S7-300 PLC configuration. Page 3

6 3. Configure the User Interface. Create an Integer text field for each data tag, making sure to configure each field for data entry where applicable. Save and download the application to the TS8000. Page 4

7 Configuring the Siemens S7-300 PLC Siemens S7 PLC s are programmed with Siemens Step 7 programming software. To begin the Profibus configuration, launch Step 7 from your development PC. Create a new S7 program for your system. Using Simatic Manager, install the TS8000 Profibus Option Card GSD file (TS09ea.GSD) by selecting: Options, Install GSD File. Update the Catalog by selecting: Options, Update Catalog (this will apply the new GSD file). Define the Profibus Master System by right-clicking the DP slot in the S7 rack and selecting: Add Master System. Page 5

8 Navigate the Profibus Device Catalog Tree at the right (Additional Field Devices, MMI, TS8000 Profibus Option Card) and drag the TS8000 object onto the network representation. Set the node address. Page 6

9 Define the I/O addresses (64 words out, 64 words in) by dragging the selection from the Catalog Tree to the address window. Page 7

10 Save and compile the S7 configuration. Navigate to the ladder section of the Step 7 and write a rung that copies the first word of the Profibus input memory table (PIW256) to the first word of the Profibus output memory table (PQW256). Save and download this configuration to the S7 PLC. Page 8

11 Wiring The Profibus DP Network Please note that all Profibus DP networks require the usage of a termination resistor at the two end nodes on the network. This resistor is typically a selectable option that is built into Profibus spec connectors. For those that do not offer this feature, a ¼ watt 220ohm resistor is recommended for placement between Data Line A and Data Line B of the Profibus connection. Page 9
