4 FGC LON System FGC LON System Product Communication The FGC LON system allows communication between FGCs (Flygt General Controller) and a LON (Local Operating Network) server over short distances. To have an FGC unit transmit to a LON server via power mains or a signal cable, a FGC LON communication module has to be mounted on the FGC main board. The APX/APP/FMCs are Xylem Flygt s standard base units for monitoring and controlling up to 32 FGC units (depending on the APX/APP/FMC model employed) by means of a SIOX-LON Gateway. The LON server is typically connected to a SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) system, for example AquaView, for data collection. The operation of individual FGCs can be monitored through AquaView s status views and graphs and starting and blocking of pumps can be effected by remote control. To find out the maximum distance in each application, tests are necessary to carry out. 6 Required equipment Required equipment LON Communication Module The LON module is a communication board for mounting inside an FGC unit. When connected to the power line, the FGC communicates via the Gateway to the LON server. Alarm messages are transmitted to the LON server by the LON module and the LON server can also inquire LON modules about pump status and sump level. 7 Required equipment Signal cable SIOX-LON Gateway Ordering Information The Gateway is a switchboard between the LON and SIOX (Serial Input Output exchange) protocols. It receives communication from LON modules (FGCs) on the power line and translates the data to SIOX protocol before forwarding it to the LON server. The Gateway has two interfaces for SIOX protocol:rs-232 and SIOX-bus. LON communication over power line SIOX communication (19200 bps) LON Servers: APX 711, APP 721/741, FMC 150, 200 and 400 Requirements Technical Data The APX 711, APP 721 and 741 can act as LON server for LON communication between a SCADA system and the SIOX-LON Gateway. Trend and data collection, remote control, alarm handling etc. can be distributed via LON to the server. The FMC series will be gradually phased out and replaced by the APX/APP series; APX 711 replaces FMC 150, APP 721 replaces FMC 200 and APP 741 replaces FMC 400, respectively. Software supporting LON communication For technical data on an LON Server, refer to its separate Technical Specification. The LON signal is present on two phases on the 400 V (bottom) side of the coupling module. On the other (top) side the LON signal is on signal cable. Permission from the power supplier is usually required.
