5 Page OVERVIEW The Pluto RS Interface Boards allow a Pluto or Pluto ontroller to drive a bi-directional RS bus. The RS Interface Board is available in two versions, the Non-Isolated Interface, Part No and the Isolated Interface, Part No. 0--, which has electrical isolation between the controller interface and the RS Bus. In general, subject to the Electrical Specifications given below, these two RS Interface Boards are functionally and mechanically interchangeable. SPEIFIATION. Mechanical Both versions of the RS Interface are implemented as a single sided PB, dimensions 0mm x mm. Mounting is via four mm diameter mounting holes.. Electrical Non-Isolated Interface Please refer to Figure Non-Isolated Interface Board Schematic. The Interface Board connects to the RS port of the host controller via onnector P. RS Transmit ata (FROM the host controller) should connect to P, Pin. RS Receive ata (TO the host controller) should connect to P, Pin. The RS Transmitter Enable signal on P, Pin controls the RS Transmitter as shown in Table below. Note that this signal has an internal pull-up resistor and may be driven by a TTL or Open rain output if an RS signal is unavailable. If JP & are fitted, a 0Ω termination resistor (R) is connected across the bus, along with failsafe bias resistors R & R which ensure the bus goes to a consistent logic state when undriven.. Electrical Isolated Interface Please refer to Figure Isolated Interface Board Schematic. The operation of this board is basically the same as the Non-Isolated Board with the following differences. Operation of P, the RS Interface to the host controller is the same as on the Non-Isolated board, but because a H device is used instead of a MAX, there is a slight change to the threshold levels, as shown in Table - RS Transmitter Enable Truth Table (Isolated Board) below. ocument No. 0- Issue

U is a - onverter with isolation between input and output that provides the power for U, the SNB RS Transceiver.. RS Bus onnection and Termination Figure shows how a number of boards should be linked together. wires should be used to connect from PA of board to PB of the next, Pin to Pin, Pin to Pin, etc. To minimise EM Emissions and Susceptibility, the RS wires, Pins &, should be a twisted pair. The boards must be connected in a line with a board at each end. The connections must NOT form a loop. The boards at each end of the bus should each have JP and JP fitted to enable the termination resistors. Enable Termination by fitting JP and JP to end boards. Figure RS Bus Topography. Selection of Board Type The Isolated Board is more expensive than the Non-Isolated, so to avoid unneeded costs, it is important to choose the correct board for the application. Generally, we would recommend the following guidelines. If the RS bus is connected between boards in a single cabinet with a single mains power supply, the Non-Isolated Board may be used. If the RS bus connects together a closely coupled group of up to or adjacent machines under a common Top or Feature Box, the Non-Isolated Board may be used. If the RS Bus is routed outside the Machine abinet, either to other machines or to ata apture or isplay Equipment, the Isolated Board should be used. onsult Technical Support at Heber for advice if in doubt. ocument No. 0- Issue
