DESCRIBE THE REQUEST OR ISSUE: Request authorization to purchase 3 HP Server Cabinets and accessories from Hewlett Packard off the State of Colorado WSCA Contract (Contract # 20511YYY31M/WSCA) in the amount of $ and request authorization to purchase 3 KVM switches from Synergy Global Technology, Inc. (one being an controllable asset addition) in the total amount of $2,270, and authorizing Terry Barber to sign associated purchase orders for each purchase. II. RECOMMENDED ACTION: Recommend approving purchase of HP cabinets, KVM switch, and authorizing Terry Barber to sign associated purchase orders III. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: As part of rewiring the RCSOCOM building with state-of-the-art data wiring, the IS Department also needs to build out the new area serving as the data room in the basement of the building in order to meet current and future server and component storage and security needs. These 3 HP cabinets and associated accessories will provide uniform server and component storage racks for the next 10 years (based on current growth). The cabinets are the newer model to the existing cabinets in the Annex building server room. These cabinets allow for maximum storage space use. Since Routt County has standardized on HP servers, these HP cabinets area also built to provide maximum support and storage of HP servers. All Microsoft servers MUST have a monitor attached to them in order to view status of the server and allow for operation and configuration. In order to provide the IS support staff the ability to monitor and configure the servers without having to have a monitor for each server, a KVM switching device allows to combine multiple servers into using one physical monitor. These devices also allow the support staff to remotely configure and monitor the servers in case of support needs allowing for timely response from anywhere a support staff member has a computer and an Internet connection. KVM devices are standard in all data centers across the world. Because the cost of the main KVM switch is over $1,000, I am asking approval to purchase an additional controllable asset as part of the overall KVM purchase. VI. LEGAL ISSUES: N/A VII. Options: Purchase non HP server cabinets, try to fine old antiquated server cabinets throughout the County. Run without KVM switches.
