6 3 Installation Plan 3.1 Scope The Installation guide provides instructions for the installation of the Advisor Advanced Pedestrian Signal and ensure functionality. This document does not discuss the operational function, or audio file transfer. (See Owner s Manual) 3.2 Location Identify the location of the AAPS Base Station using the Intersection Worksheet provided with the installation packet. Pedestrian Stations are identified with the Campbell Company Work Order number and Station Identification number. 3.3 Standard Components 1ea Base Station - APB o 2ea. ¼ - 20 X 1 ½ FHP Screws 1ea. 8 3.6 Installation Procedure Base Station Installation (See Fig 1) Tactile Arrow Orientation Mount the Base Station with the tactile arrow pointing directly to the crossing destination (THE PEDESTRIAN RELIES ON THIS INFORMATION TO CROSS SAFELY). Some intersections do not call out arrow directions and require installation in the field. The tactile arrow is field selectable (left or right) requiring two security screws and a special bit. Campbell Company provides this hardware packet only when specified at the time of purchase. Contact Campbell Company Technical Support if a security bit is needed for tactile arrow modification. Rubber mounting knobs on the back plate of the Base Station are adjustable allowing for a number of configurations to ensure a precise fit - especially on decorative, small diameter poles where the station needs to be angled. Drill and Tap Pole 1. Refer to Fig. 1 for diagram 2. Center the Base Station on the pole with the push button at the appropriate height (36 42 inches center). 3. Mark the point where the PPB will be centered. 4. Mark for a hole 1 1/8 above PPB center, and drill a 1 1/8 hole 5. Mark for a hole 2 1/4 above PPB center - drill and tap for a ¼-20 thread 6. 9 Mount the Pedestrian Station 1. Insert control cabinet field wiring through the boot. Note: Boot is important! 2. Connect cabinet field input wires to screw terminals on the back of the base station. 3. Pull protective boot back over the barrier terminal nipple and secure with tape. 4. Use an anti-seize compound on all screws. 5. Place the pedestrian station on the pole and fasten using two ¼ - 20 FHP screws. Ensure a snug fit. (See rubber mounting button adjustment configurations above) 6. Place the adapter plate and / or sign using provided hardware. The adapter plate and mounting hardware differ pending size: o 1ea. 10 Mount Termination Board 1. Locate a rail that spans the entire side of the cabinet wall to mount the Termination Board. It is preferable to identify an area at the bottom of the cabinet.in close proximity to the entrance of the pedestrian field wires. 2. The termination board back plate has two ¼ counter sinks for fastening the plate on a cabinet rail. With two ¼ - 20 x 1 FHP and ¼ spring nuts, secure the back plate onto the cable rail. Orient the termination board with the black APB terminal jack on the left. 3. Identify the pedestrian field wires that will land on the termination board. With any pair of field wires (APBs do not need to be in any particular order), connect both wires in sequential order on the terminal block starting with terminals 1 and 2. Odd numbered terminals are common - even numbered terminals are fused. Fig. 2 Termination board Note: Eight APBs (16 fields wires) can be connected on each side for a total of 16 APBs (or 32 Field wires) utilizing both sides. 4. Strip back the field wire ends a ¼ and slide them into the corresponding female terminal connection. Tighten the set screw above to ensure a good connection. 5. Attach the 7 ft. two wire EoP Cable from the black terminal on the Termination Board to the APB Output connection on APC. Installing the APC 1. Place the APC on shelf inside the cabinet. Note: If shelf space is limited, Campbell Company provides optional mounting bracket solutions. Document Name: Installation Manual Company All rights reserved. Page 10 of 18

11 Installing the Input Cable (DB25) 2. Identify the outputs to the pedestrian display from the traffic controller cabinet for the pedestrian phases. Reference the accompanying Campbell Company intersection worksheet and identified the pedestrian phases on the planning sheet (P2, P4, P6, P8, +) 3. Determine routing for DB25 APC input cable from front of APC box to traffic controller cabinet outputs. Pull the APC input cable (25 C) from APC shelf area to the traffic controller cabinet pedestrian display outputs. Secure the excess cable in a loop and tie neatly to avoid confusion. 4. Attach the APC input connections to Pedestrian Display Outputs (W and DW), and ground to traffic controller cabinet Pedestrian Display Outputs. See Fig. 3 DB25 Installing the APC Output Cable (DB9) 1. Identify the pedestrian pushbutton inputs in the traffic controller cabinet (PB2, PB4, PB6, PB8 ) 2. Determine routing for APC output cable from front of APC to pedestrian pushbutton inputs in the traffic controller cabinet. Pull the APC output cable (9C) from APC shelf area to traffic controller cabinet inputs. 3. Attach the APC output connections PB1 PB8, and ground to traffic controller cabinet pedestrian pushbutton inputs. See Fig. 3 DB9 Connect 120 VAC 1. The 120 VAC power cable shown to the right is supplied with the AAPS system. 2. Attach the green wire to the cabinet ground: the blue wire will attach to 120 VAC Neutral: the Brown wire will attach to the 120 VAC terminal (hot) in the cabinet. 120 VAC Power Cord Note: Some wiring may be different. 13 Power Up Sequence 1. Once the power cable to the APC is installed, verify that all other cables are securely connected to the front of the APC. 2. Make sure the power switch is in the OFF position before attaching the 120 VAC cord. 3. Turn the power switch to the On position allowing the APC to power up. The red status light should be blinking when the APC begins communicating with the APBs. (May take up to a minute to establish communications) 4. The Station Numbers will display green (OK) or red (ATTN) for each APB. Ethernet Connectivity 1. With a laptop (or any web browser device) and Ethernet cable, connect to the APC at the Ethernet port. 2. Using an IP address, launch the web site. (See operational guide for complete details) 3. Remote connection can be established if the cabinet connected to a network. 14 4 Post Installation 4.1 System Operational Check Following Installation 1. The AAPS comes fully configured at the factory. When first powered up, an audible locator tone will be present. 2. Depress the push button and verify the red LED turns on with an audible acknowledgement message Wait. (No acknowledgment message in EPAPS mode). If field wires from the traffic controller are connected to the station, verify that pedestrian call is transmitted to the traffic controller. 3. Following a momentary press, verify the Walk Phase message or percussive tone is present and the vibro-tactile button vibrates concurrently when the walk sign is on. 4. Repeat again with 2 second extended press and verify the red LED turns on with an audible location message. 5. After the Walk Phase message, verify an audible locator tone is present at the clearance phase (Flashing Don t Walk). 6. Recheck all units for a full cycle to ensure all options and features operate as desired. 7. Depending on intersection location, factory default settings for volume, AGC, and vibotactile settings may require modifications. Proceed to the System Configuration section for details. 15 4.2 Operational Check List Installer: Order Number: Date: Initial: Base Station is securely attached to the pole (extension bracket) with the arrow pointing to the destination. Audible Walk Tone / Message is present when call is placed and Walk Sign is on. Locator tone is present when no call is placed. Locator tone is audible 6 to 12 feet or building line whichever is less from ped station. Messages are audible to a distance of 6 to 12 feet from pedestrian station. APC Advanced Pedestrian Controller Base Station Fully integrated APS station that contains the microcontroller, push button, speaker, adapter plate EoP Ethernet over Power line Ethernet Port RJ-45 connector found on most computers Extended Press On APS, holding the pedestrian push button down from 1-3 seconds may activate special features, including audible beaconing and extended pedestrian clearance interval.
