3 Automation for Power Grid NR provides state-of-the-art automation solution for substations from distribution level to extra high voltage level. It integrates the application of protection, control, Ethernet, IT and communication technology based on the international standard and is fully compatible with IEC standard. Substation Automation System RCS-9700 automation system provides comprehensive control and monitoring of substations and power plants of all voltage levels. It is suitable for new constructed substation and retrofit substation. IEDs are integrated in this automation system and the measured data is transferred to remote control center(load dispatching center) via gateway. The innovative protocol converter is fully complied with IEC and supports connection to the third-party IEDs. 1
4 Automation for Power Grid NR's RCS-9700 provides remote control and monitoring of system operation status, and helps operators to handel local operations such as data collection, evaluation and data transmission. The RCS-9700 substation automation system is suitable for the following applications: Substations, power plant and industrial electrical system New constructed substations and retrofit substations Traditional substations and digital substations Gas and air isolated switchgear - Conventional Substation Automation The autmaiton system for traditional substation application comprises three levels in hierarchical structure: Station Level, Network Level and Bay Level. Station Level The station level consists of station computers, printers, operator stations, GPS receiver, gateway and station bus. It provides supervisory, control and Figure 1. Station level can communicate with dispatching centers or other concentrated control stations via gateway using different standard protocols such as IEC and IEC Network level The network level composed of switch and Ethernet networks. NR's substation automation solution provides single or dual network based on distributed or ring structure. NR's Network level can smoothly communicate with third party equipments using IEC standard protocol or private communication protocol. Time synchronization is realized by GPS. Bay level The bay level consists of bay control units, protection relays, disturbance recorders and other IEDs which are connected to stations level via Ethernet. All IEDs produced by NR support IEC station bus and redundant Ethernet connection. - Smart Substation Automation Smart substations are the key building block of smart grid. It comprises of intelligent primary devices and networking secondary devices to realize information sharing and interoperations. At NR smart substation solution, we specialized in providing innovative technologies and high-performance devices for secure information delivery and management. Figure 2. 6 Automation for Power Grid NR s innovative smart substation solution realizes modern substation operation by using fiber optic network instead of conventional cable wiring and thereby reducing the workload and extending the substations operational period. It includes process level equipment such as electronic fiber CT/PT, merging units, intelligent control unit and local control panels, and also includes the PCS series protection and control devices like protective relays, disturbance recorders, automation systems, remote control systems and protection information systems. As shown in Figure 3, communications between each level are implemented by two independent networks: station bus and process bus. Station bus is used to transmit MMS, GOOSE interlocking and time synchronization information between station level and bay level. Process bus is used to deliver sampled value, GOOSE tripping commands and GPS synchronization information between devices at bay level and process level via IEC standard protocol. The use of Sampled Value(SV) makes current/voltage sampling at primary side easier and more reliable. Voltage and current signals are captured at primary side, converted to optic signals and transferred to protection and control devices via optic fibers. This can lower the requirement of transformer insulation and reduce the interference in the analog signals transmission. Electrical Control System (ECS) for Auxiliary Power System The PCS/RCS-9700 electrical control system is a cost-effective automation system designed for the control of auxiliary electrical system with capacity up to 1000MW in power plant. It provides high performance control and monitoring for feeders, startup/standby transformers, auxiliary transformers and other intelligent devices. The control system adopts bay-oriented and object-oriented configuration to replace the traditional centralized structure, and this makes the system more reliable, easier to extend and maintain. NR s PCS/RCS-9700 series ECS system is fully compatible with IEC standard and it has been applied to many power plants and put into service successfully. 5
8 Automation for Power Plant Network Control System (NCS) for Power Plant Station NR's PCS/RCS-9700 network control system enables execution of several tasks from long distance, and eliminates unnecessary wiring so as to reduce the complexity and the overall cost in designing and implementing the control systems for power plant.it provides advanced automatic functionality including safety monitoring of primary devices in the power network and real-time monitoring of electric parameters. The system adopts distributed architecture to replace the traditional centralized structure, making the system more reliable and easier for extension and maintenance. NR s PCS/RCS-9700 series NCS system is fully compatible with the IEC standard and it has been used in power plants and put into service successfully already. Distributed Control System (DCS) for Thermal Control The PCS-9100 distributed control system(dcs) are dedicated systems used to control manufacturing processes for all kinds of power plants. It is 6
9 Automation for Power Plant connected to sensors and actuators to control operations of the plant. The PCS-9100 adopts distributed architecture and provides diagnosis for each branch to enhances system stability and reliability. So far, the PCS-9100 has been put into service in many power plants with installed capacity up to 600 MW. Smart Generation Station NR provides PCS/RCS-9700 Electrical Control and Management System (ECMS) with GOOSE dedicated network operating under IEC61850 for the control and monitoring of auxiliary electrical system in smart generation station. Advanced protection functions based on GOOSE network are integrated, such as 6kV busbar differential protection, VT failure protection, feeder breaker failure protection and GOOSE interlocking. Communication between bay level and station level are implemented by MMS network. In the process level, information exchanges among 6kV protection and control devices are based on GOOSE network. 7

Electrical Automation System for Industrial Substation and Power Plant The PCS-9700 electrcial automation system provides protection, control and monitoring of power supply for coal mining system and subsurface power system. It consists of 6kV/600V explosion-proof bay control unit, explosion-proof communication gateway, Ethernet switch, subsurface video monitoring system, ground monitoring master station and EMS for coal mine shaft. 11 Automation for Power Plant 9700 electrical automation system has been widely used in different kinds of instrial fields, such as metals & mining, metro railway and oil & petrochemical enterprises. Industrial Distributed Control System (DCS) The PCS-9100 industrial distributed control system is used to control industrial processes such as electric power generation, oil and gas refineries, and paper manufacturing. NR provides integrated services including DCS hardware design, software configuration and optimized object-oriented software packages. Energy Management System (EMS) NR provides PCS-9000 Energy Management System to reduce energy consumption, optimize energy management and improve system effectiveness and security for industrial enterprises. It facilitate the energy concervation and consumption cut-down by providing discrete data aquisition, centrialized dispatching management, supply & demand balance and demanding energy forcasting. Flow Monitoring System The PCS-9118 flow monitoring system is designed based on self-designed sensors and metering hardware to measure gas flow in industrial power plants, petrochemicals, coal mining, iron and steel and paper manufacturing. 9
12 Automation Products Merging Unit The merging unit is an important interface between the primary equipment and secondary protection & measurement device. NR's PCS-221 merging unit supports connection to electronic CTs/VTs, electro-magnetic CTs/VTs, intelligent primary equipments, protection & measurement devices, metering devices and bay control units. The PCS-221 can be used as an A/D and D/A converter between the ECT/EVT and electro-magnetic CT/VT to deliver synchronized signals to busbar protection and transformer protection. Communications between merging units and protection & measurement devices are usually implemented by optical fibers based on IEC /2 or IEC protocol. Point-to-point communication is usually applied to the protection and control devices which have high requirements on real-time data sampling. Ethernet network communication can be applied to bay control units and metering devices which have less requirements on real-time data sampling. 10
13 Automation Products Intelligent Control Unit Outdoor Cabinet PCS-222 intelligent control units are used to connect circuit breakers and protection & measuring devices to capture and deliver the circuit breaker status information to protection & measuring devices via GOOSE network. Meanwhile, it receives commands from protection & control devices via GOOSE to control the status of circuit breakers. The PCS-922 can be installed outdoor nearby the primary equipment. Connections to the protection & measuring devices are implemented by optic GOOSE network. Special cabinets are designed for intelligent control units to fulfill the requirements of dust-proof, humidity-proof, and radiation protection. Bay Control Unit PCS/RCS-970X series bay control units are used for control and monitoring of switchgear, transformers and other equipments in substations of all voltage levels. It can be optimally customized for different wiring configuration and various applications including transmission lines, transformers, circuit breakers, busbars and reactors. The PCS-9705 adopts real-time multitasks operation system with high processing ability. It is fully compatible with the latest communication protocols to facilitate connectiond to automation system and Remote Control Units(RTU). IEC and IEC for station bus, IEC and GOOSE for process bus are supported. Communication Gateway NR's RCS-9698G/H is used to map signals between protection & control devices and process devices in substations, network control systems or distributed control systems. It is capable of communicating with several dispatching centers simultaneously via different telecommunication channels based on the applied protocol. Industrial hardware with embedded components are adopted instead of PC technology with weak rotary machinery (Hard disk, 11

The RCS-9698G/H gateway supports both conventional communication channels and modern Ethernet, and is fully complied with IEC international standard communication protocol. Protocol Converter The RCS-9794A/B protocol converter is used to convert standard or proprietary protocol of one device to the protocol suitable for the other device to achieve the interoperability. It is composed of embedded multi-processors which are mutually independent and parallel running. The protocol converter is flexible to add any new protocol depending on the engineering requirements. It supports most of mainstream third party protocols such as DNP, MODBUS, IEC103, etc. Basic Communication Protocol Upward to station level: IEC 61850, IEC Downward to bay level: IEC , IEC , IEC , MODBUS, CDT, DNP 3.0 (serial port) NR can customize new protocols as per the specific application based on additional charge Ethernet Switch NR's PCS-9881 and PCS-9882 Ethernet switch is intended for interconnection of 10/100/1000M adaptive Ethernet devices using twisted-wire/fiber optical connection. It adopts industrial level chips to ensure reliable and high-speed data exchange, compensating the insufficient application of commercial switch in a substation automation system. PCS-9881 and PCS-9882 are fully compatible with IEC and GOOSE communication in the digital substation automation system with distributed network or ring network. 12
15 Innovative Products GPS Synchronization Unit NR's RCS-9785 GPS Synchronization Clock is an independent GPS timing device used to provides highly reliable and accurate time message to substations. It can be integrated in SAS or RTU via communication ports based on IEC and IEC protocols. The RCS-9785C/D GPS Synchronization Clock can provide various timing messages, including standard IRIG-B time code, pulse per second(pps), pulse per minute(ppm) and timing message. The device offers fiber optic output, RS- 485 and RS-232 output and static dry contact output. Time Pulse Extension Equipment The RCS-9785E is a timing signal expansion unit without internal GPS module. It decodes and converts the IRIG-B time code received from external GPS timing source, and outputs expanded IRIG-B, pulse per second (PPS), pulse per minute (PPM) and timing message to the whole station. Software Kit The PCS-PC software kit is designed to offer simplified management of NR s PCS family products. It provides efficient functions for device configuration and commission, including device setup, configuration & setting, programmable logic development, test & commission and fault analysis. With an intuitive matrix structure, the PCS-PC offers easy-to-use configuration capabilities for I/O mapping and signal mapping. Additionally, sampled values and signal statuses are monitored by the PCS-PC tool. It scans and retrieves disturbance information for automatic report file generation. Waveform analysis is integrated for post-fault diagnostic. Personal computer can connect to the PCS series device via the RJ45 interface in the front plate of the device. The PCS series device can be set and configured online and offline via this software tool. 13
