21 4 Steps to Get Started with B3 1. Make a list of all city buildings, addresses, total square footage, utility names, utility account #s, account managers, space usage types (see Appendix for options), occupancy hours, and approximate date built. Gathering this information from building managers and accounts staff may require some time and difficult sleuthing, however, having all of this information in one place will make the subsequent steps much easier. Visit to create an account for your organization. Complete the form using your contact information and the building information you gathered in step 1. Submit this form. Over the subsequent few weeks, the Weidt Group, the software managers of B3, will review it and give you account access. You will receive an from them when the account is ready. 22 3. In the meantime, you can begin gathering historic utility data, which should be entered once the Weidt Group has given you an account. The easiest way to gather data is to request it directly from the utilities. If you do not normally pay the bills or have access to the utility accounts, you ll need permission from the accounts manager. Simply download and fill out the sample utility data releases with the accounts manager. Contact your utility (See the appendix for a list of common utilities and contact information) to ask for the best way to send the data release and tell them how you d prefer for them to send you data. 4. Once you receive your B3 account access and the usage data from your utilities, add the appropriate meters for each building and enter the applicable usage data. Also, enter the space usage data as well as building completion date on each building s profile page. If you need help navigating the tool, please watch Energy Management Step by Step with B3 Energy Benchmarking located on the CERTs website. Appendix B3 Space Usage Type Definitions Administration The Administration space usage type includes the following areas found in a typical office area offices (both enclosed and open), conference rooms, circulation, lobby, storage, restrooms and mechanicals. It does not include data centers, cafeterias, exercise rooms and locker rooms. Animal Shelter The Animal Shelter space usage type includes the following areas found in a typical animal shelter animal cages, exam area, visitation rooms, retail space, training rooms, offices, restrooms, storage and mechanicals. Auditorium The Auditorium space usage type includes the following areas found in a typical auditorium audience seating, stage, prop area, dressing rooms, lobby, circulation, restrooms, storage and mechanicals. City Hall The City Hall space usage type includes the following areas found in a typical office area offices (both enclosed and open), conference rooms, circulation, lobby, storage, restrooms and mechanicals. It does not include data centers, cafeterias, exercise rooms and locker rooms. Coliseum / Stadium The Coliseum/Stadium space usage type includes the following areas found in a typical coliseum/stadium playing field, spectator seating, concessions, locker rooms, offices, circulation, restrooms, storage and mechanicals. College Classroom The College Classroom space usage type includes the following areas found in a typical college classroom building classrooms, offices, circulation, restrooms, storage and mechanicals. College Laboratory The College Laboratory space usage type includes the following areas found in a typical college lab building laboratory, circulation, storage and mechanicals. Community Center The Community Center space usage type includes the following areas found in a typical community center common

The Computer Center space usage type includes areas that typically have numerous computer stations, such as computer labs, media centers or other such classroom type spaces, as well as associated circulation, storage and mechanicals. The Courthouse space usage type includes the following areas found in a typical courthouse building courtrooms, offices, conference rooms, lobby, detention rooms, circulation, restrooms, storage and mechanicals. The Data Center space usage type includes the following areas found in a typical data center computer rooms that typically have redundant/backup power supplies and their own environmental controls (AC, ventilation, etc mechanicals. Data Centers do not include computer labs, media center rooms or other such classroom type spaces. The Dental Lab space usage type includes the following areas found in a typical dental lab exam rooms, lobby, office, storage and mechanicals. The Dining space usage type includes areas found in a typical dining area space as well as associated circulation, storage and mechanicals. The Dormitory space usage type includes the following areas found in a typical dormitory building dorm rooms, lounges, restrooms/showers, circulation, storage and mechanicals. The Elementary School space usage type includes the following areas found in a typical elementary school classrooms, gymnasium, cafeteria/kitchen, offices, circulation, library/media center, restrooms, storage and mechanicals. It does not include swimming pools or field houses. The Field House/Gym space usage type includes the following areas found in a typical field house/gym athletic field, gymnasium, circulation, exercise rooms, locker rooms, storage and mechanicals. The Fire Station space usage type includes the following areas found in a typical fire station apparatus bays, conference rooms, lounge, offices, locker rooms, circulation, storage and mechanicals. The Greenhouse space usage type is used for areas enclosed mainly by glass and used for plants. The High School space usage type includes the following areas found in a typical high school classrooms, gymnasium, cafeteria/kitchen, auditorium, offices, circulation, library/media center, locker rooms/restrooms, storage and mechanicals. It does not include swimming pools or field houses. The Hospital space usage type includes the following areas found in a typical hospital patient rooms, exam rooms, operating rooms, offices, lounges/waiting rooms, circulation, storage and mechanicals. The Ice Arena space usage type includes the following areas found in a typical ice arena ice rink, bleachers/stands, locker rooms, circulation, storage and mechanicals. The Jail Facility space usage type includes the following areas found in a typical jail detention rooms, activity rooms, offices, restrooms/showers, circulation, storage and mechanicals. The Kitchen/Food Prep space usage type includes the following areas found in a typical kitchen/food prep space prep

24 Library Machine Shop Maintenance Repair Mechanical area, cooking areas, cleaning area, serving area, refrigeration and freezer spaces, storage and mechanicals. The Library space usage type includes the following areas found in a typical library book stacks, reading area, lobby, circulation desk area, conference rooms, circulation, storage and mechanicals. The Machine Shop space usage type includes the following areas found in a machine shop machine area, office, storage and mechanicals. The Maintenance Repair space usage type includes the following areas found a typical repair shop repair bays, office, storage and mechanicals. The Mechanical space usage type includes any areas related to the HVAC, electrical, and plumbing spaces within a building. Middle School The Middle School space usage type includes the following areas found in a typical middle school/junior high school classrooms, gymnasium, cafeteria/kitchen, auditorium, offices, circulation, library/media center, locker rooms/restrooms, storage and mechanicals. It does not include swimming pools or field houses. Multi Family Housing Museum Nursing Home Office Park / Recreation Parking Garage Parts Assembly Police Facility Pool Prison Housing Retail / Store The Multi Family Housing space usage type includes the following areas found in a typical multi-family housing unit apartments, lobby, circulation, storage and mechanicals. The Museum space usage type includes the following areas found in a typical museum exhibit space, circulation, restrooms, storage and mechanicals. The Nursing Home space usage type includes the following areas found in a typical nursing home patient rooms, community rooms, offices, kitchen, restrooms, storage and mechanicals. The Office space usage type includes the following areas found in a typical office offices (both enclosed and open), conference rooms, circulation, lobby, storage, restrooms and mechanicals. It does not include data centers, cafeterias, exercise rooms and locker rooms. The Park / Recreation space usage type includes park and recreation related buildings including club houses and nature centers, as well as their associated circulation, storage and mechanical areas. The Parking Garage space usage type includes the following areas found in a typical parking garage parking spaces, pay stations, lobbies, circulation and mechanicals. The Parts Assembly space usage type includes the following areas found in a typical parts assembly shop assembly line, office, storage and mechanicals. The Police Facility space usage type includes the following areas found in a typical police facility offices, conference rooms, detention rooms, locker rooms, circulation, storage and mechanicals. The Pool space usage type is used for tracking the square footage of a swimming pools surface area. Example: 25yd short course pool with eight 10 wide lanes = 6,000SF The Jail Facility space usage type includes the following areas found in a typical housing unit detention rooms, activity rooms, offices, restrooms/showers, circulation, storage and mechanicals. The Retail/Store space usage type includes the following areas found in a typical retail/store environment sales floor,

25 Retirement Home Student Union Warehouse Active Warehouse Inactive storage/warehouse, office, lounge/break room and mechanicals. The Retirement Home space usage type includes the following areas found in a typical retirement home apartments, community room, offices, garage, circulation, storage and mechanicals. The Student Union space usage type includes the following areas found in a typical college student union common areas, meeting space, food court, activities (i.e. movies, bowling, billiards, etc.). The Warehouse-Active space usage type includes the following areas found in a typical active warehouse warehouse, circulation, offices, storage and mechanicals. The Warehouse-Inactive space usage type includes the same areas as the Warehouse - Active with lower default hours of operation and lower lighting requirements. For this, I m trying to gather past meter data on the city's behalf from you using a signed data release form.
