4 STI s Major Responsibilities 1 To formulate the national STI policies and plans 2 To develop standard measurements, indicators, database, and conduct policy research on STI 3 To provide support and advice to other government agencies in formulating their own STI implementation plans 4 To coordinate and monitor the development of national S&T manpower 5 To monitor, evaluate and report the national STI implementation to the Committee and the Cabinet 4

8 NATIONAL DESIGNATED ENTITIES (NDEs) NDE Roles and Responsibilities The NDEs facilitate the support to their countries from the CTCN by: Serving as National Focal Point on CTCN activities. Supporting the articulation and prioritization of requests and proposals. Managing the national submission process of technical assistance requests to the CTCN. Good NDEs ARE essential for a well functioning CTCN! Focal point for CTCN activities at the national level Ensuring requests are based on national circumstances and priorities Coordinating with relevant ministries, focal points for other UNFCCC mechanisms, and the private sector, civil society, and academia to ensure CTCN services provide the best value to the country NDEs will act as CTCN focal point in the countries and manage the submission of requests for technical assistance 8

9 Thailand National Designated Entity (NDE) 3 July 2014 Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Plan (ONEP) as Focal point under UNFCCC nominated STI as an Interim NDE in order to enabling activities and interacting with CTCN. 20 November 2014 National Climate Change Committee adopted STI as Thailand NDE 25 November 2014 The Cabinet approved STI as Thailand NDE 3 December 2014 ONEP nominated STI as an Thailand NDE.
