3 There is more than 460 machine-, metal-, and apparatus building companies in Estonia. More than 100 of them are small workshops with number of employees of 1-5 and turnover less than EUR. The importance of machine building, metalworking and electronics (enginering industry) both in Estonian exports as well as imports has increased remarkably during recent years. Today this branch of industry with its long-lasting traditions is one of the leading branches of the Estonian economy. Most of the 460 enterprises in the engineering industry are situated in Tallinn and its nearby regions while the main part of vacant production capacity is located farther from Tallinn. Taking into account the relatively well-developed network of roads, railways and ports all enterprises wherever in Estonia they are located, are potentially suitable partners for foreign firms.

9 EML Federation of Estonian Engineering Industry (EML) is a non-profit organization that on the basis of voluntary membership unites corporations involved in metal working, engineering and electronics manufacturing, research and technical design institutions and other legal persons related to this sector. EML is established in 1991 and represents together with subsidiary companies over 100 metalworking, machinebuilding and electrotechnical enterprises. EML Services for enterprises: Information over activities and capacities of production and subcontracting. Arranging consultations, meetings, seminars and visits of enterprises. Compiling and distributing of advertising and informing materials (catalogs, CD etc.) Close cooperation with Tallinn University of Technology, Tallinn College of Engineering and Vocational Centres on the fields of research, development and training.

10 IMECC Innovative Manufacturing Engineering Systems Competence Centre Project started in 2009 Research partners: 1 partner Tallinn University of Technology: TUT, Laboratory for Proactive Technologies, Department of Computer Control TUT, Department of Materials Engineering TUT, Department of Machinery Industry partners: 14 companies, devided as: Machinebuilding and metalworking companies Tooling companies Mechatronics companies IT companies High Level Objective is: To improve the competitiveness of Estonian engineering industry and to develop cultural, ethical, and social values based on increasing integrated industrial use of new technologies of optimal product life-cycle management (PLM) and e- Manufacturing, emerging manufacturing technologies and process automation techniques, and new forms of self-organizing systems with online monitoring and diagnostics in order to gain competitive advantages and assure economic success in a global economy, to rise the effective use of knowledge in product engineering and manufacturing planning for small series production in distributed and networked organizations of Estonian engineering industry. Innovative Manufacturing Engineering Systems Competence Centre (IMECC) is co-financed by Enterprise Estonia and European Union Regional Development Fund (project EU30006)

12 2. STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS. Wind energy cluster The wind power cluster was born of Estonian companies wish to be involved in the rapidly and innovatively evolving wind power sector. The emergence of wind power plants is connected not only to their erection and electricity production, but the sector also provides work for many industries. The wind power cluster has committed to the development of a development strategy for the Estonian wind power industry sector and enabling its partners to participate in international energy production and technology cooperation projects.

AS Norma is an organisation that incorporates various processes starting from product development and tool-making to modern automated manufacturing.
