2 MIAMI-DADE PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP The Public-Private Partnership program incorporates the public and private sector in to one team dedicated to created a more resilient community. The overall goal of this program is to share information and resources both among the private sector partners but also with Miami-Dade County to lessen or avoid economic impacts from an emergency and/or disaster.

5 RESPONSE AND RECOVERY ACTIVITIES This Public-Private Partnership program maintains a seat titled Business and Industry within the County Emergency Operations Center (EOC), giving them direct access to key departments and organizations. They are responsible for sharing information with our private sector partners response-oriented information and resources during and immediately following an emergency or disaster event.

6 RESPONSE AND RECOVERY ACTIVITIES CONT.. During an EOC activation the EOC Business and Industry representative will distribute information to our private sector partners. Damage to road infrastructure Damage to water and sewer infrastructure Status of debris clearance and removal Reversal of drawbridge lockdown procedures Airline and marine traffic Resumption of county services/schools Curfews Re-entry into evacuated communities Status of public transportation

Business Continuity Information Network A web-based critical information network developed in concert with FIU Provides up-to-date information on the current emergency and/or disaster. Provide a gathering place for businesses to report on available resources (products/services) they can provide Assists county Partners to collect and understand damage in the business community immediately following a disaster

RSF Economic This RSF operates in the Recovery Operations Center and acts as the private sector advocate and also directs and coordinates the delivery of programs and resources to the private sector to promote recovery and growth after an emergency and/or disaster.

10 BENEFITS OF JOINING THE PROGRAM Membership in the Public-Private Partnership is free and open to any business within Miami-Dade County. New members will be asked to complete a form identifying your company s points of contact. Businesses will also receive regular s on emergencies/disasters, trainings and exercises from the Office of Emergency Management. OEM provides an annual exercise that can assist in testing businesses continuity plans/procedures. To join this free program you can us at: esf-18@miamidade.gov

11 GENERAL PREPAREDNESS Prepare your Emergency Supply Kit Pack everything in waterproof containers Include supplies to last at least 3-5 days Date everything so that you know when items must be replaced WATER!!! (One gallon per person per day) Non-perishable food items Manual can opener Prescription and Over-the-Counter Medication Heart & Blood pressure medication Insulin Baby food, extra diapers, powdered milk and medications Pet supplies Cash or traveler s checks Identification and proof of residency Entertainment items (cards, gameboys)

Sign up for Miami-Dade Alerts to receive important notifications, emergency alerts, and updates before, during and after a disaster! 14 GENERAL PREPAREDNESS CONT.. Make a Plan Knowing what to do is your best protection and your responsibility. Discuss the types of disasters that could occur Plan how to prepare for and respond to each type of disaster Discuss where to go and what to bring if advised to evacuate. Become familiar with alternate routes and other means of transportation out of your area. Establish two meeting places: Outside your home in case of a sudden emergency A local church, school or other pre-established location if you can t return to your home following the emergency. Make sure each family member knows the address/contact information for your meeting places.

15 GENERAL PREPAREDNESS CONT.. Make a Plan Cont.. Choose an out-of-state friend as a "check-in contact" for everyone to call. Make sure every member of your family knows the contact s phone number. Write down important contact numbers on a family emergency contact card and give a copy to each family member. Practice and maintain your plan. Every six months you should: Review your Family Emergency Plan and practice fire and emergency evacuation drills Review emergency information including contact information with children Replace batteries in smoke detectors Test and recharge your fire extinguisher(s) according to manufacturer s instructions

16 CHEMICAL, BIOLOGICAL AND NUCLEAR PREPAREDNESS Be aware of your surroundings. Take precautions when traveling. Be aware of conspicuous or unusual behavior. Do not accept packages from strangers. Do not leave luggage unattended. Learn where emergency exits are located in buildings you frequent. Work with building owners to ensure the following items are located on each floor of the building: Portable, battery-operated radio and extra batteries. Several flashlights and extra batteries. First aid kit and manual.

18 BUSINESS CONTINUITY Human Factor Cross-train your employees Develop easy-to-read training manuals Conduct personal interviews with returning employees to assess their situation.

19 BUSINESS CONTINUITY CONT.. Physical Factors Protect your building from physical damage Determine alternate routes or means of transportation Protect office equipment Have adequate insurance. Identify a site suitable for temporary operations. Keep photos and videos record of your inventory. Keep hardcopy records of important Documents (i.e. lease, insurance policies). Back-up all your computer records and maintain them offsite.

20 CREDENTIALING AND RE-ENTRY PLANNING Miami-Dade County asks businesses to direct their staff to have: A photo identification (preferably a company photo ID) A letter from their employer stating that they are an essential employee. A 24-hour phone # to verify their identity. They should also provide a letter to their vendors who will need to enter the affected areas for deliveries or services.

21 CREDENTIALING AND RE-ENTRY PLANNING CONT.. If employees are stopped by local law enforcement, remind them to: Be courteous and truthful to the police officer at all times. If the police officer refuses to let them pass don t argue with him/her, just follow their directions and contact your employer. Have all necessary documentation: Drivers License Proof of Registration Insurance Card Company ID and Essential Employee Letter

22 CREDENTIALING AND RE-ENTRY PLANNING CONT.. Membership with the Public-Private Partnership program affords you direct access to the EOC. Direct access facilitates working with the relevant municipalities and MDPD to expedite re-entry to areas.
