1 Basic Migration Guideline

2 Purpose The purpose of this document is to assist customers with moving (migrating) the LogMate system from one server to another. What You Will Need Latest LogMate software Local Administrator Account on the system where you will install the software SQL Account being used by Capture to connect to its databases Getting Started - New Server or PC 1) Install the OS (Win XP Pro Win 7, Win 2003, 2008, 2008r2 or server 2012) with all Service Packs. 2) Setup the 2003, 2008, 2008r2, 2012 server as an Application Server with ASP.NET (this is required for TipsView to run). 3) Install SQL Server 2008, 2008R2 or ) Install all current SQL Server Service Packs. 5) Install the latest version of LogMate. 6) Do not install TiPSView now; this will be done after the TiPSView database is attached to the new server. Old Server or PC 1) Stop Capture from collecting data and close Capture (do not allow it to run as a service). 2) Locate the Tips.ini file in the C:\Windows directory and copy it to the same location in the New PC (replace the one on the New PC if there). 3) Moving the Databases: There are several ways to move the databases depending on the version of SQL Server. This document will use the Detach/Attach method of moving the databases. Keep in mind that databases can be moved up from an older version of SQL Server to a newer version but not down from a newer version to an older version. The databases to be moved are ALL the Data databases to include the ones identified with an _o, the TiPSView database and if the SSRS is configured the Report Server databases.

3 The following is an example of detaching databases from SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server SQL Server 2000 a) Run Enterprise Manager and login to SQL Server. b) Expand out the Tree on the left side to identify all the Databases. c) Right-click on a database and select All Tasks > Detach Database. d) Select Update statistics prior to detach. e) Select <OK> to detach the database. f) Repeat step c thru e for all LogMate data databases and the TiPSView database. SQL Server 2008 a) Run SQL Server Management Studio and login to SQL Server. b) Expand out the Tree on the left side to identify all the Databases. c) Right-click on a database and select Tasks > Detach. d) Select Drop Connections and Update Statistics. e) Select <OK> to detach the database. f) Repeat step c thru e for all LogMate data databases and the TiPSView database. 4) Open Windows Explorer and, assuming your databases are located in the default location, browse to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Data and copy all the data databases (*.mdf), their logs (*.ldf) and the Tipsview.mdf and TiPSView.ldf to the same location on the New Server/PC.

4 New Server or PC 1) Open SQL Management Studio and attach all the Databases that were copied. SQL Server 2008 thru SQL Server 2012 a. Run SQL Server Management Studio and login to SQL Server. b. Expand out the Tree on the left side to identify all the Databases. c. Right-click on Database and select Tasks > Attach. d. Select Add and browse to the location of the copied databases and select a database. e. Multiple databases can be attached at the same time in SQL Server f. The Attach as: should be the current name of the database. g. Specify Database Owner to sa or an owner with sa rights. h. Select <OK> to attach the database/s. i. Repeat step c thru g for all LogMate data databases (if necessary) and the TiPSView database. 2) Move the TiPS License Key (Dongle) from the OLD Server/PC to the NEW Server/PC. 3) Now, you will need to install TiPSView on the new server and connect to the SQL Server for the installation program to upgrade the TiPSView database correctly.

5 4) Run TiPSView, login as an administrator and go to Configure > Administrator > Database. You will need to re-identify the server for the database connection since you moved them. a. Select a database and open it for editing. b. Edit the Server section to the new SQL Server. c. Simply re-browse to the db and Test connection, it should pass. d. Repeat step b and c for all databases. e. TipsView should now work as it did on the old PC. Capture connection corrections: As with TipsView, the connection string for the DB's will be broken in Capture so you need to do the following: 1. Run Capture on the NEW Server/PC. 2. Right-click on the port and select Configure One Port. Note: Since we moved the Tips.ini file the settings should be the same. 3. In the Database Definition, select <Remove> to delete the database connection (this does not delete the database from SQL Server). 4. Select <New>, SQL Server, OK the information form, and this will display the SQL Server connection form. Enter the following: On 1) SQL Server name On 2) Enter the SQL Account being used to access the Capture Databases its password Check the "Allow Saving Password" On 3) Browse to the database that you are reconnecting to and <OK> the form 5. OK all forms until you are back at the Interface Setup form. 6. With the newly connected Database Definition listed, select <Configure> then on the next form, select <DB Fields..>.

6 7. On the Database Field Configuration form, select <Read DB Settings> (this will read the database for its actual configuration and set all the fields appropriately). 8. Select <OK> on the Database Field Configuration form and all additional forms. 9. The main Capture screen should now be displayed. 10. Repeat steps 2 thru 9 for all Capture ports. 11. Activate the port/s and collect data. 12. Once the ports have activated and data is being collected, verify data collection correctness by viewing the data in TiPSView. 13. Now, deactivate all ports in Capture and right-click on the port and select Configure One Port. 14. Ensure that the Activate on Startup check box and select <OK> to save the settings. 15. Repeat step 14 for all ports. 16. Close Capture. To configure CAPTURE to run as a Service: 1) Open the system Services. 2) Locate the Capture service. 3) Open the Capture service and change the service from Manual to Automatic. 4) Save the settings.
