1 MS SQL Server 2016 Installation rev1704 This document provides the steps required to install MS SQL Server 2016 Standard Edition on a Windows Server 2016 for use with DataSelf Analytics solutions. MS SQL Server editions supported: Enterprise, Developer and Standard. Minimum system requirements: at least 2 CPU cores, 4GB of RAM, 50GB of free disk space, Windows Server 64bits version 2012 or newer with the latest service packs. You should budget 30 to 60 minutes to perform this installation assuming you have all installation files ready to go (DVD on hand or downloaded files on your local HD/network). ATTENTION: Please be sure to log on to Windows with an administration user. 1. Run the installation application: From a SQL Server DVD: Run setup.exe. From files downloaded from DataSelf s website: Run the downloaded file to extract the SQL Server installation files. If an extract password is required: check your DataSelf download links documentation. Run setup.exe from a folder similar to the one shown above. 2. SQL Server Installation Center: Click Installation on the left pane, and then click New SQL Server stand-alone or add features to an existing installation 3. Product Key: For DataSelf MS SQL Runtime licenses: click Next. For regular MS SQL Licenses: Type in the license key and click Next. DsBi_MsSqlServer2016Std_Installation1704.doc Page 1 of 5

2 4. License Terms: Read license terms. If acceptable, check I accept the license terms and click Next. 5. Product Updates: Check the box for Use Microsoft Update and click Next. Follow Product Updates instructions. 6. Install Rules: If all rules pass, click Next. Windows Firewall warnings may have to be addressed later on if/when users need remote access to SQL Server. Feature Selection: Select the following features: Database Engine Services Analysis services Client tools connectivity Client tools backwards compatibility Check if the Shared feature directories are set to hard drives with plenty of free space. 8. Instance Configuration: Select Default instance (or choose Named instance and name it). Check if the Instance root directory is set to a hard drive with plenty of free space. 9. Sever Configuration Set Startup Type as shown below: SQL Server Agent: Automatic SQL Server Database Engine: Automatic SQL Server Analysis Services: Disabled SQL Server Browser: Automatic Set all Account Names and Passwords with a Win Admin username and password with reading rights to the source database(s). 10. Database Engine Configuration: Set Authentication Mode to Mixed Mode (SQL Server and Windows authentication) Create a secured password for the SQL Server system admin (sa) account Click Add Current User. 4 11. Analysis Services Configuration: Click Add Current User. Select the Data Directories tab and use HDs with plenty of free disk space. 12. Ready to Install: Click Install. The installation takes several minutes. 15. Download SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) use link for Current release for production use Complete: Click Close. 14. Reboot the server, log on and then open MS SQL tools and verify that all services are running. 16. Run the downloaded SSMS installer and click Install. 17. Click Close. 5 18. Install Visual Studio for SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS): Download SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT) for Visual Studio: Run the downloaded file. Only check box for SQL Server Analysis Services. Read license terms, check box for I agree and click Install. Click Restart. 19. Run and apply Windows Updates. 20. Optional: Granting access to remote users: You may have to configure Windows Firewall settings to allow remote access to MS SQL Server and MS Analysis Services.
