3 SSRS Reports in imis With each new release, ASI has been adding more SSRS reports SSRS reports can be created, edited, and embedded in the staff site and public or members web sites There is no software to buy.rdl files can be created and edited in the Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) software that comes with SQL Server.RDL files can also be created and edited in Report Builder, which is available as a free download from Microsoft Reports are run from the imis Document system using the built in SSRS Report Viewer

4 Running SSRS reports in imis Reports can be run from within the document system Reports can be generated on the fly using the Report command in IQA Reports can be added to content records SSRS Report dynamic content item For reports that are based on an IQA query Report Display dynamic content item For reports that are created outside of imis, and may be based on multiple data sets

5 Why edit SSRS reports? An out of the box report is close, but needs some tweaks to make it work for your organization Include logo and other graphics Different font style, color, or size Add formatting to dates and numbers Concatenate fields Calculate Sums and Balances You can write an IQA query but want to add some formatting, maybe a total

6 SSRS Report Editing Tools Report Designer in Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) Report authoring environment hosted in Microsoft Visual Studio Use project and solution files to organize and maintain a master copy of report definitions, report parts, shared data sources, shared datasets, etc. Intended for developers Report Builder Report authoring environment for business users who prefer to work in the Microsoft Office environment Work with one report at a time Intended for end-users

7 Working with BIDS Create a report server project Create a shared data source called imis.rds Right click on Reports in the solution explorer and add- >existing item to choose the.rdl file saved from imis Tweak the formatting or completely change the layout and resave or save as a new.rdl file

9 Getting started with Report Builder Downloading Prerequisites Microsoft.NET Framework 3.5 SP1 Installing Download and run ReportBuilder3.msi Step through wizard interface The final step of the wizard before installation asks for default target server URL: you can leave this blank

10 Getting started with Report Builder Configuration If you are working on the server where reporting services is running you can check the reporting services configuration manager for the webservice URL, generally Adding this URL to the settings will allow you to preview reports in Report Builder If you are working remotely without access to the data source, leave this blank Includes Cloud Hosted implementations You will not be able to preview reports in Report Builder, but can still edit them and save in imis

12 imis SSRS reports Two types of SSRS reports in imis Standalone report with dataset in the report Most standard ASI SSRS reports Reports linked to IQA query Some standard ASI SSRS reports Reports created directly from IQA The data selection takes place in the query, not the report

13 Locate report in imis To edit an SSRS report, you need to locate the.rdl (report definition language) file, and open it in your report editor The imis.rdl files are in the RiSE document system as templates Look for them in Continuum, or in RiSE>Document System When a report is based on an IQA query, you will need to locate the template, which contains the.rdl

14 Download report template Navigate to the report template you want to edit and select the Download link The.rdl file is downloaded into to your downloads folder

15 Open in Report Builder Navigate to your download folder and open the file in Report Builder

16 Report Builder tools Select text on page to edit or apply WYSIWG formatting from the toolbar

17 Properties Enable the properties checkbox under the View menu to enable property settings for each element on the page Click on a report element to view/edit its properties, or click outside the white area to see the overall report properties

18 Insert elements Use the insert menu to add elements like images, text boxes and tables

19 Adding a Logo Click on the image icon Move your cursor to where you want to place the logo An icon appears Click in the report to place it and select file Image is inserted Drag to resize

20 Save edited report Save the edited report file Use Save as to create a separate version

21 Pulling the edited report into imis After editing the report definition, the edited file needs to be uploaded to the RiSE document system To avoid having your edited report overwritten on upgrade, add it as a NEW report template in RiSE

22 Adding a new.rdl template Navigate to where you saved the edited report Add a description Upload

23 Ready to run The new report is added to the document system Double click to run it

24 Turning an IQA query into a report SSRS reports can be generated automatically from within IQA Create a query in IQA that contains ALL of the fields needed in the report To have the report run based on the website visitor, add Criteria to the filter: NetContact.iMIS ID Include the quote marks Save the query in a separate folder that is easily located.

Two files are created in the document system Report template (.rdl) Report definition (links the.rdl and the IQA) You can use the same folder as the query To edit the report: Save the report definition to the workstation Save the.rdl file in a location accessible to your report editing tool

30 Edit the report in Report Builder Open Report Builder Navigate to where workstation location where.rdl was saved, and open Edit the report and save To edit in BIDS: Create a project Create a shared data source called imis.rds MS SQL Server connection to the database with SQL server authentication Add existing item; open previously saved.rdl Edit the report and save

32 Footers from IQA Reports generated from IQA contain two footer properties near the top of the report Move them to the bottom of the layout or remove them to avoid errors in edited reports

33 Updating imis When you are done updating your report, edit the report template in the imis document system Select to browse to saved.rdl Save, to update template

34 Tips Verify formatting in various browsers like IE, Chrome, Firefox. SSRS reports render differently depending on the browser used. Check page properties in Report Builder or BIDS and adjust for the page size and orientation if you plan to make a PDF version available.

35 Tips imis uses the criteria in IQA when running the query so any changes need to be made in IQA. If your datasource is connected to the server, you can copy the SQL query from the summary tab in IQA to the data source in SSRS after updating. You will need to refresh the data sources in SSRS to make any newly added fields available.
