Identify when to use various image and digital media file formats INSRUCTION SHEET Video 1 Using Windows Movie Maker Hints: To split a clip, select edit, split. To add a transition, click on the clip in which the transition will begin. Star Wars Video Mix Objective: I can add, split, clip, delete, and transition video clips into a sequence of scenes. (1) Open Windows Movie Maker (or Movie Maker) and then click the icon Add Videos and photos Select Star Wars Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back Trailer.wmv. This video is about 3 minutes long. (2) Drag the first clip (green screen The following preview ) down to the video timeline to 8 seconds, then split the clip at that point (Edit, Split). Click on the first clip (0 8 seconds) and delete. (3) At about 20 seconds (right before the white planet) split the clip again (Edit, Split). 1

2 (4) Select the Animation tab and choose a Dissolve Transition at the beginning of the video and between clips 1 and 2 at about 21 seconds. (5) Now split the clip (Edit, Split) at 25.5 seconds (at the end of the snow planet and before the scene with Luke Skywalker). (6) Add another Dissolve Transition between the two clips that were just split at 25.5 seconds. (7) Split again at about 53 seconds (right before Luke emerges with a blaster) and at the beginning of Darth Sidious (about 58 seconds). Click on the clip to the left of the split (Luke and the Blaster) and delete. (*hint: just click on the clip you don t want and press delete) Add a transition at the beginning of the Darth Sidious clip at the beginning of the second line such as Crossfade. 2

3 (8) Add a Split at about 1:25 seconds, at the beginning of Luke hanging upside down. Add a Dissolve Transition. (9) Add a Split at about 1:47 seconds, at the beginning of Yoda. Add a Dissolve Transition at this point. (10) Split at 1:59 and split again at 2:01. Select this clip and copy and paste this 3 second Yoda Clip ( You will become an agent of evil. ) an additional two (2) more times to the right. Add the Pixelate Transition between all 3 Yoda Clips. After the Yoda clip, add a transition, such as a reveal flip. 3

4 (11) Go to about 2:27 minutes. You will see the beginning of Darth Vader (the scene where he tells Luke, I m your father. ) Insert a Split at this point. Now go to the end of Vader saying I m your father, at about 2:30 seconds, and split again (you will split right when Luke is shown again yelling NO! Now take the I m your father Vader clip and copy two (2) times to the right. That way, you ll have Vadar saying, I m your father, three (3) times. Add the page curl transition under sweeps and curls to each of the Vader clips. (12) Now you will basically do the same thing to the very next scene (clip) in which Luke is screaming, NO! At the beginning of the next clip, start with the Luke scene immediately after Vader (this will start about 2:36 seconds and go for about 2:39 seconds or 3 seconds). Insert a Split at the end of Luke screaming NO! which should be at about 2:39 seconds or 3 seconds. You will take this 3 second clip and copy and paste it twice (2 times) to the right of the original clip. Increase the speed to double-time, 2x, on each of the Luke clips. Add the Shatter transition between all of the Luke clips. (13) Click on the last clip and insert a Split at about 2:54 seconds, then delete the remainder of the movie to the right. (*we only want it to say Star Wars NOT Episode V The Empire Strikes Back.) (14) Add Title and Credits slides. Click at the beginning of the movie. Click on the Home tab and click title. Enter the following text and select title font (Arial Narrow) and color (white). At the beginning of the first title slide, select the scroll transition. For example: 4

5 (15) Choose Add credits at the end of the Movie. Choose the last clip of the movie. Click on the Home tab and click Credits. Enter the following text and select a font, size, and color of your choosing. On the last slide (credits) select a transition of your choosing. Add a second credit slide for the Soundtrack. Choose transitions. (16) Now we need to add our music. Choose the Home tab, then Add Music. Selelct Weird Al Yankovich Star Wars Gangsta Rap (Yoda Mix).mp3 5

6 (17) Set the video volume levels for each video frame. Select the first video frame AFTER the first title slide clip. Click on the Video Tools tab and move the slider so that it s about 75% audio from music NOT from video (closer to the mute side). Listen to the video audio mixed with the.mp3 background music. Adjust the.mp3 background music by choosing the Music Tools tab. *You will need to listen to each video clip and adjust the video volume and the music volume according to your individual preferences. (18) On the three (3) video clips of Vader saying I m your father! increase the video volume to 75% and decrease the background music volume to 25%. Do the same with the three (3) clips with Luke screaming NO! (19) Adjusting video and music volumes. Listen to the video audio mixed with the.mp3 background music. Adjust the.mp3 background music by choosing the Music Tools tab. *You will need to listen to each video clip and adjust the video volume and the music volume according to your individual preferences. (20) In the Video Tools, use the Fade In and Fade Out effects as you prefer. (21) Complete the video by saving it as.mp4 video file format. Choose File, Save Movie, For Computer. Give the movie a name and choose the destination folder. *Saving (exporting) may take a couple of minutes. Student Assessment Option #1: Cut, clip, and combine at least 12 different Star Wars video clips from a variety of Star Wars trailers. Student Assessment Option #2: Import your Star Wars Audio Mix into your video project or individual audio clips. Arrange the video clips to correspond with your audio mix. Your final project will be a mix of Star Wars video and audio totaling three (3) minutes. 6
