1 What's New at RIT? We're growing! We are currently conducting interviews for an office assistant. 2 Molly's Security Corner We have been seeing a lot of spoofing these last few months. What is spoofing? It s when you receive an that looks like it s from someone you know, when in truth, it s not. In many cases, the is asking for information or asking you to click on a link to take you somewhere you shouldn t go. One of the ways they can get your information is from your website. We are all trying to make it easy for others to find us and to connect with us by phone, , and text, so we put this information on our website. Here is where the problem comes in. The bad guys have their computer run a program that will go out to websites looking for this information and if your site has links to your personal or business contacts, they WILL grab it and use it. How can you slow them down? The easiest way for now is don t use links. Instead, create a graphic format of the information so everyone can see it, but they can t copy the information. If you do this, it makes it more difficult for an automated system to gather the information, yet still lets a real person have access to it. Hope this helps! 5 Note from the President: It s February! How is 2017 going so far? Well for me, this year has started out strong. It seems like we are taking steps in the right direction and things are moving forward. It just doesn t seem to be moving as fast as I would like. I hope you all know by now that if there is anything I can do that is I.T. related or not, I am always happy to try. With that said, I would like to ask you for help.
