2 During the scan checks phase of Advisor Check Deposit, you will make front and back copies of the physical checks. Create separate scanned copies for the front and back of each check. Do not combine multiple checks in a single copy. Store digital copies of checks in a temporary location for later selection. Follow a naming convention so that you can identify which files are the front and back sides of the checks. Supported formats: PNG, JPG, GIF, and TIFF. TIFF is only supported for creating frontand-back check image copies in a single file (multi-page TIFF). Adjust scanner settings to black and white, and 200 DPI. Align check straight and at the top of the scanner (zero rotation). Do not use an automated tray feeder to copy or scan checks, as it may rotate or damage checks. Straight alignment of physical checks before scanning will reduce rotation. Ensure scan surface area is cleaned regularly. Cropped images generally have fewer quality issues. Inspect edges of generated image files. Dark lines can be vertical or horizontal. 1 file per check copies 2 files per check copies 1

3 Once you ve saved the files, upload them to Schwab. You can choose one or more files at the same time depending upon the upload workflow selected and format of the images. Once the files are uploaded, the system will access the images for quality, and note which, if any, must be rescanned. The system will display the details of all accepted checks for your review and provide a link to view the front and back sides of the checks. Image quality concerns to watch for: Image too light or dark. Image does not appear to be a check (cannot recognize key fields). Damaged document. Image is not within allowed DPI range. Multiple checks overlapping during scanning process (sticking). There is no limit to the number of checks that may be uploaded for. Descriptive error messages are displayed if any selected check images fail to upload. 2

4 When reviewing check details, you can specify sub-accounts and edit other fields. You can also remove one or more checks prior to, if necessary, or cancel the entire session. Search by account number or client name. Click edit Check link to add check details, correct the scanned amount value, enter the date received by your firm, or notes. User can view the check images uploaded by clicking on the View Check link. For s to retirement accounts, select the contribution type. Remove individual checks by clicking the Remove icon. Cancel entire session by selecting Cancel Deposit. 3

5 Please confirm the amounts of all checks you re ing before submitting them. The system will pre-validate the check amounts and the accounts into which they ll be ed. If any errors occur, or if an account type is unsupported, those checks will not be ed online. Instead, they should be mailed. Checks with warnings will be ed. Edits to check amount field will generate warning message and require review by Schwab. $250K check limit. Amount field cannot be left blank or have 0 (zero) as a value. Confirm check amounts and check all boxes on the Confirmation page. Option to go back and edit check rmation is provided on the Confirmation page. 4

6 Once the checks have been successfully submitted, follow the control steps outlined in the check agreement, including: Stamp or mark the front of the physical check as electronically ed. Remove temporary check image files from computers to protect sensitive client information. Hold physical checks for a minimum of fourteen (14) days before destroying them. Checks submitted online will be treated as one logical transaction. If any single check in a fails to submit, the entire is rejected. Checks without any errors that are ed before the cut-off time will usually post the same day. A confirmation summary page will be displayed to the user. Options to exit check or more checks are provided on the confirmation summary page. 5
