1 Tutorial on Digital Measures (DM). The Wisconsin School of Business (WSoB) Data Base for reporting. May 2011 This tutorial is intended to provide guidance in the initial set up and maintenance of your DM record. The data in DM is fed to your WSoB web pages and is used for generating internal reports including annual activity reports, AASCB accreditation filings, and reports sent to external constituents (e.g., Dean s Advisor Board members). In addition, your record can be used to generate a vita that can be stored and transformed as needed in WORD. After logging into DM (see the first couple of screen shots), there is a video and a short user guide provided by DM. This tutorial provides more specific guidance on how to enter information that is pertinent to the WSoB. If you encounter problems or have suggestions on how to improve DM, please contact Julie Ngo at jngo@bus.wisc.edu.
2 To log into Digital Measures, follow these steps: Go to Click on MY UW Enter your NetID and password. Click on Login If you have not yet activated your NetID, click on Activate my NetID (top right of screen) and follow instructions.
3 Click on the TEACHING tab
4 Click on Digital Measures located on the right of the screen.
5 This is the main menu of DM. At the top of this page (not in this screen shot), it is stated: Watch a video or download a guide on how to manage your activities. Note that you are requested to enter at least the last five years of your information. Menu line items are used to report personal and professional information. The WSoB will automatically fill in information related to courses taught. To begin, click on Personal and Contact Information
6 Please enter your personal contact information. Fields marked with a red R are read only fields. Please enter your Professional Website only if it relates to your professional activities at the WSOB. The Personal Website refers to your WSOB website.
7 Please enter your Start Date. Make sure you enter in at least the month and year. Please enter a Brief Biography that provides insights into your business expertise and interests If you have a photo on file, it will be uploaded by Technology Support Center (TSC) for you. Please upload your vita by clicking on Store file, click on Browse. You will then have to find your vita file to upload. Once the fields are completed, click on Save and Return to save your updates. This step will also return you to the DM Main Menu.
8 The next menu item to complete is the section labeled Education and Other Professional Qualifications/Certifications. Please enter only the details of your education. Qualifications and certifications will be entered at a different location. Click on ADD A NEW ITEM to advance to the screen that gathers data about an educational institution (see the next screen shot)
9 The following fields are required: Degree School Emphasis/Major Highest Degree Earned from this institution Year Completed If you have an additional degree to add, click on SAVE AND ADD ANOTHER When finished, click on SAVE AND RETURN then click on the RETURN TO MAIN MENU in upper right hand corner.
10 The next menu item to consider from the Main menu is Awards and Honors. If you have any awards or honors received over the last year to report, please click on ADD A NEW ITEM.
11 Enter any significant award and/or honor within the last year. Significant award and/or honor include any state, national or international recognition. Make sure the month and year are included the date is not necessary. If possible, please provide a short description of the award/honor. Click on SAVE AND RETURN or SAVE AND ADD ANOTHER if you have more awards/honors to report.
12 The next menu item to consider from the Main menu is Licensures and Certifications.
13 Please note the message about leaving the Expiration Date field blank if you currently hold the license/certification. Click on SAVE AND RETURN or continue to add additional licenses or certifications by clicking on SAVE AND ADD ANOTHER. You can always return to the Main Menu by hitting the RETURN TO MAIN MENU button, but do not do so until input is saved.
14 The next category of information relates to your professional activities and memberships. Please click on Professional Memberships from the Main Menu and proceed to add specific details by clicking on the ADD A NEW ITEM.
15 Please note the message about leaving the End Date field blank if you are a current member of an organization Continue adding organizations as needed or going back to the Main Menu by clicking on SAVE AND ADD ANOTHER or SAVE AND RETURN, respectively. Specific details regarding your efforts related to the professional memberships reported in this section are documented in the Professional Activities section of DM discussed below.
16 As noted above, your course information, including your course evaluation scores will be uploaded for you by the WSoB. However, please take a moment to verify all courses taught by you are listed in DM.
17 If you have a syllabus for the listed course above, please upload your syllabus by clicking on Store file.
18 If you are involved in significant outreach programs related to your professional expertise or teaching for UW Madison, please add those activities in this section of the database. Only enter outreach related to programs at UW Madison.
19 Please note, if you are currently working on a program that is not complete, keep the end date blank. Please be sure to note whether the outreach program is related to professional development or academic enrichment. As in all other inquires, click SAVE AND RETURN if you are done reporting your outreach activities or SAVE AND ADD ANOTHER if you have additional programs to report. Once you are finished with this section return to the Main Menu.
20 Please use this menu item to report curriculum development, e.g., new courses, significant changes to courses you ve taught before, course innovations.
21 If you reported awards in the Awards/Honors section of DM, please do not repeat the awards/honors here. When finished click SAVE AND RETURN or add an additional item.
22 The Journal Articles menu item is used to report published academic or professional articles. Click on ADD A NEW ITEM to begin.
23 Enter in published journal articles only Add additional authors if needed by selecting the number of authors you would like to add and click Add. You can move the placement of the authors by clicking on the up/down arrows.
24 Please be sure to complete the AACSB Classification field by choosing the appropriate article classification from the drop down menu.
25 Consulting activities and professional activities not encountered in conjunction with a specific professional organization are reported by completing this section of DM. Please report efforts related to a specific professional organization in the menu item labeled Professional Organizations discussed below.
26 If your consulting position is currently active, please leave the End Date field blank. Click on SAVE AND RETURN when you are finished or if you have any additional activities to report click on SAVE AND ADD ANOTHER
27 Please report your efforts and appointments in professional organizations in this section of DM.
28 Once again, if your membership in this organization is currently active, please leave the end date blank Once finished, click SAVE AND RETURN and return to main menu.
29 This menu item allows you to report attendance at professional meetings and your efforts to plan, coordinate or implement professional meetings.
30 More professional meetings can be added by clicking SAVE AND ADD ANOTHER or finish by clicking on SAVE AND RETURN and return to the Main Menu
31 This menu item is not often used and should not record any activities previously reported in DM.
32 Please keep the End Date field blank if your service is ongoing. Save before leaving the DM system.
