1 WEB OF SCIENCE TM RELEASE NOTES v5.21 The following features are planned for the Web of Science on January 24 th, This document provides information about each of the features included in this release. As appropriate, please communicate to your users before the release to prepare them for changes that might affect them. RELEASE SUMMARY Feature Summary Curate datasets across multiple sessions for a more Saved Marked Lists efficient workflow when analyzing data at InCites, managing bibliographies at EndNote, or exporting data. Easily find more articles from authors who share a Improved Author Disambiguation Algorithm common name via an improved algorithm that leverages more of Web of Science Core Collection s high-quality metadata. SAVED MARKED LIST Saved Marked List is a new feature that allows users to curate datasets over multiple sessions by saving their work in progress in a marked list. By allowing users to resume saving items to a Marked List in a return visit, users have more time to review search results and determine which records they want to evaluate further. Once added to a Marked List, the custom dataset can be analyzed at InCites, added to EndNote bibliographies, send to ResearcherID to manage their academic reputation, or exported for offline analysis in the user s choice of file formats. Each individual user may save up to 50 lists, with each list containing up to 5000 items per list. Users will be able to name each list and provide an optional description. Previously saved lists may be re-opened and edited by adding new records or removing previously saved records. Users will be notified if the number of items requested in the marked list exceeds 5000 and when they approach the upper limit of 50 saved marked lists per user. This feature is available across the Web of Science platform except for Derwent Innovation (which retains its separate marked list functionality for patents) and for chemical structures (Web of Science Core Collection Chemical Indexes Current Chemical Reactions and Index Chemicus). Creating a Saved Marked List 1. To create a saved marked list, simply create a marked list by performing a search and selecting records for the dataset.

3 2. The first time the user clicks Add to Marked List or Marked List, they will be notified of the new capability. This appears once per session. 3. The user will see the familiar Marked List page with the addition of new Save or Open/Manage.

4 4. While any user may collect records in a Marked List, only users who have registered with Web of Science to create a personalized account may access Saved Marked List. 5. Click on Save and provide a unique name for the marked list. List names should be shorter than 20 characters.

5 6. Done! Editing a Previously Saved Marked List 1. To edit a previously saved marked list, open the list that you want to edit. Click Marked List to access the manage NOTE: the user must be logged into their personalized account to access their previously saved lists.

6 2. Click on the desired saved marked list that you want to edit. 3. Perform a new search to find additional records that meet your criteria.

9 8. Confirm you wish to replace the old marked list. Combining Previously Saved Marked Lists 1. Open the desired saved marked list

10 2. Select the 2 nd marked list. 3. When you open the 2 nd marked list, select that these records should be ADDED to the existing list. NOTES: Each marked list can only contain 5000 records. Records will be de-duplicated when lists are combined. The list cannot be saved if it exceeds 5000.

11 4. New records are added to existing saved marked list. Remember to save your work before exiting. Managing Saved Marked Lists Users may delete or rename previously saved marked lists from the Open/Manage screen. Each end user may store 50 marked lists associated with the address used to register for the personalized account. 1. To delete a previously saved marked list, select the desired list and click delete. NOTE: Each user may have 50 saved marked lists associated with their address. Users will be notified as they approach the maximum number of saved marked lists.

12 2. To rename a saved marked list, click Edit from the Open/Manage Saved Marked List screen. NOTE: List name should be no longer than 20 characters. Characters from non-roman alphabets such as Russian (Cyrillic), Chinese, Korean, Japanese are not supported. IMPROVED AUTHOR DISAMBIGUATION ALGORITHM FOR DISTINCT AUTHOR SETS To enhance our continuing emphasis on improved author disambiguation, Web of Science has improved the Distinct Author Record Sets which algorithmically clusters sets of papers that are likely to be authored by a single individual. Available within the Web of Science s Core Collection, the Distinct Author Record Sets provide a simple way for researchers and research analysts alike to easily find more articles from specific authors regardless if the author is actively managing their academic reputation via an author identifier such as an ORCiD or a ResearcherID. The improved algorithm leverages the carefully curated data that is the heart of the Web of Science Core Collection. In addition to the frequent updates from ORCiD and ResearcherID, key pieces of metadata such as Author Names, s, Co-Authors, Citing Authors and Cited Authors are used to group together sets of items likely to be written by the same person.

15 2. Access the improved Distinct Author Record Sets. The new author identifier is also available as a new field in the WoS Premium API. The identifier assigned as part of the improved algorithm is called daisng_id. For continuity, the original identifier assigned using the older algorithm is still available. The original identifier is called dais_id. MULTIPLE REPRINT AUTHORS In today s more collaborative environment, the average number of authors per paper has been increasing dramatically. To recognize individuals who have played a particularly impactful role, many authors rely on editorial conventions such lead author or reprint author to distinguish those authors who deserve special honors. In light of these changes, journals are now accepting multiple names to serve as the reprint author the person who should be contacted for additional questions about the paper. To ensure that Web of Science preserves these honorary distinctions, we now have the ability to display multiple reprint authors within the Web of Science Core Collection. Multiple reprint author addresses will be indexed starting Jan. 27, 2016 for the Web of Science Core Collection content with a publication date of Jan 1, 2016 and later. Only multiple reprint author data correction requests for content with a publication date of Jan 1, 2016 will be processed. This policy does not apply to content published on or before Dec 31, RUSSIAN SCIENCE CITATION INDEX A new regional citation index, Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI), has been introduced in collaboration with Russia s scientific electronic library elibrary.ru. The launch of the Russian Science Citation Index is part of our commitment to regional content expansion and is designed to highlight influential research from important regional sources and complements earlier regional citation indexes such as Chinese Science Citation Database, SciELO, and KCI-KJD. Russia s Scientific Electronic Library oversees the rigorous process of selecting Russia s most influential scientific journals. Their selection criteria includes analysis of the journal s bibliometric indicators calculated in RSCI, the results of a journal s expert group evaluation in key areas, and a public examination of journals by leading Russian scientists. Over 600 journals have been selected for inclusion already, and the content spans from 2005 to current. Hosted on the Web of Science platform, Russian Science Citation Index contains the same core feature set of other WoS citation indexes with Times Cited counts and Cited Reference Search. It is available on the Select a

16 Database tab and is searchable as a standalone citation index as well as through the Web of Science All Databases search interface (see Figure 2). Figure 2: Russian Science Citation Index is a new collection available on Web of Science. Users can search RSCI in Russian or English (see Figure 3) and the data is available in Russian (Cyrillic alphabet and transliterated into the Roman alphabet) and English (see Figure 4).
