Reduce financial support from public sector Find a sustainable way to support the future of digital access and preservation Allow private sector to redistribute the digital content or to make derivative works Maintain free access to public domain content for non profit use

9 Conditions for content reuse Legal conditions of content reuse A visible watermark to identify images and protect them from non authorized use - Not too obtrusive - «source gallica.bnf.fr / Bibliothèque nationale de France» - or «source gallica.bnf.fr / other library» A clearer price list - A new pricing model - Adapted to different needs (companies / end-users)

10 R.O.I. : commercial re-use of content and metadata Many companies interested in the Gallica content for a commercial exploitation ; some contracts soon to be signed Print on demand Re-use of content on the web (genealogy and local history, stock photography agencies ) Re-use of content on e-readers / smartphone Re-use of structured metadata and vocabulary for web search engines An example of successful POD : the Spanish National Library 82 documents (books, maps) available via Bubok reprints 170 sales per month

11 Content licensing and affiliate marketing Content licensing The private sector can re-use content from Gallica and make derivative products Value may be added by products and services The BnF receives a commission from sales Affiliate marketing The private sector can redistribute the Gallica content and develop new services on the web The BnF as an affiliate receives a commission depending on the particular commission terms (pay per click / pay per sale)

12 Sharing infrastructure and services Partnership with French associated libraries Digitisation of their own materials within the BnF programs Long-term preservation using SPAR digital repository Online access on Gallica website Partnership with French publishers (under-copyright materials) Indexation of metadata and full text in Gallica Access to full text under conditions on e-distributor s platforms Two free services => to help French publishers and libraries assess the digital revolution and create value on the web Archiving third party service, find SPARing partners Provide Gallica interface as white-label product
