3 The context The ASECAP vision for the future aims: To assure at the motorway and bridge tolled concessions that users have a safe and rest driving in an adequate timely travel without stress or congestions and so under sustainable conditions.

7 Cooperative traffic management An improvement of motorway operation to respond to the new challenge? Generalisation of V2I and I2V communication in real time, and satellite positioning V2I: improve data collection (more precise and more rapidly) I2V: improve driver information (more precise more located) extend possibilities of traffic management need for quality management of traffic information (coherence, continuity, it conform to global l optimisation)

10 3 factors of success of cooperative traffic management 1- New actors in traffic management (automotive industry, telecom industry, equipment and content providers, ) work with road operators. 2- The business model recognizes the economic value all along the chain of the information production. 3- To give evidence that each driver need on board reliable traffic information and pay for that as he does for tyres, energy or airbag.

11 Coexistence CEN DSRC ITS G5 Interference problems identified in : CEPT report 101 (Compatibility studies in the band MHz between ITS and other systems) ETSI TR (Co-existence considerations regarding DSRC and ITS operating in the 5 GHz frequency range) ETSI TS (Mitigation ETSI TS (Mitigation techniques to avoid interference between CEN DSRC and ITS in the 5 GHz frequency range) CEN DSRC ITS G5

12 Co-existence between ITS and DSRC ASECAP position ASECAP reminds that numerous European toll operators already use 5.8 GHz DSRC technique for more than two decades(directive). According to standardization principles, new standards should take into account previous standards. Specifically future ITS applications on the 5.9 Ghz band should not interfere with European Electronic Toll applications based on the DSRC 5.8 Ghz band. ETSI specification should guarantee the co-existence of both applications. The work started with the draft ETSI TS should go on g until positive demonstration of such compatibility, (without costs for the existing and future applications based on EN standard).
