2 1. Introduction Welcome, Sign-in, Class Prerequisites: basic knowledge of PowerPoint: adding slides and text, changing themes and slide styles, presenting slide show Outcomes o Add an image or chart to your presentation o Add a Youtube clip o Use Transitions to animate your slide show o Use animations to emphasize parts of each slide 2. Adding Images and Graphics Using PowerPoint, you can add images and illustrations. Images are files that are stored on your computer, a flash drive, or disk. These include pictures, clip art, screen shots, or photo albums. Illustrations can be created within PowerPoint. You can create a chart or graph with data, add shapes (like arrows, stars, and symbols), or use Smart Art graphics to illustrate a process, relationship or list. From the Insert tab, you can find a variety of options: 1. Go to the Insert tab and click Picture. 2. Choose any sample picture from the Sample Pictures folder. 3. Click Open. 4. Using the Picture Tools tab, explore some of the editing and formatting options. Next, we are going to try inserting a chart. This is easier if you have some knowledge of Microsoft Excel or other spreadsheet program. If not, you can still create a basic graph without too much trouble. 1. From the Insert tab, click Chart 2. Choose a chart type. (Hint: The first Column example works well for this practice graph!) 3. A chart will appear using the default data provided by Microsoft and an Excel window should pop up. 4. Go to the Excel Window, finding it in the main task bar at the bottom of the screen. You may need to click Edit Data first.

Check your chart in PowerPoint! Each time you alter data in the chart (like a name or number) PowerPoint automatically adjusts the chart to reflect changes. 3. Adding Multimedia When adding a video or audio file to your presentation, you will be using a process similar to that of adding images. Instead of inserting a image file, you will be working with video or audio (example:.mp3,.mp4,.wma,.wmv ). You can also insert audio clips or videos you have found online, or record audio directly through PowerPoint. If you would like to insert a video or audio clip from a file already saved on your computer, you will probably find it a lot like inserting a picture: 1. From the insert Tab, choose Video, and Video from File 2. Choose the file you want to insert, click Open.
4 Now we are going to try adding a Youtube video clip to our presentation. 1. Open an Internet Browser (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, whatever you have on your computer). 2. In the address bar, type: and choose any video. 3. When viewing the video clip, just below where the video plays click Share. 4. Click Embed 5. Copy code provided. 6. Back to PowerPoint: From the same menu as the previous example, choose Video from Web Site (Hint: Insert tab Video Video from Web Site 7. In the box that pops up, paste code from Youtube. 4. Transitions By default, each slide will appear after the previous each time you click or hit the arrow button. To make things more interesting and to signal more clearly a change in slide, you can use transitions to control how slides move onto the screen. These options are found under the Transitions tab: Transitions apply to the selected slide (the one you are currently working on, or the slide that appears full-size in the middle of the screen). And changed will alter how that slide appears on the screen. 1. Select a slide (not your first or title slide). 2. From the Transitions tab, choose one option. 3. View your presentation (making sure to start before that slide) to see how it looks. (Hint: to watch your presentation: Slide Show tab From Beginning) 4. Add a couple additional slides, changing the transition for each. Watch your presentation again.
5 5. Animations While Transitions control how each slide moves onto the screen, Animations allow you to assign motions and effects to individual parts of a slide (like a bullet point, word, or image). They might appear or disappear with special effects (float, zoom, or bounce) or they might grow, wave or pulse on screen for emphasis. Animations are ordered and activated the same way you would advance to the next slide. Each click will turn on the next animation for that slide. 1. From the Animations tab, look through your options by clicking the bottom arrow. 2. Go to a slide with some content. If you need to, add a couple of bullet points to practice multiple animations. 3. Click on the text in one bullet point (or an image). You do not need to select the entire text, unless you want multiple images or bullets to appear together at once. 4. Choose an animation entrance, emphasis, or exit. 5. Repeat for as many parts of the slide as you would like. 6. View slide show. Saving to a Flash Drive Pass out BTOP Flash drives?
