Practice ahead so that the demo goes smoothly in front of the customer. 1. Model Number The recommended UDC3200 model number is DC3200-CE-3A0R This model provides : - 2 universal inputs. - 1 Current output. - 2 relays. - Ethernet communication - 1 Auxiliary output - 2 Digital inputs. - Infrared port. - Math package.

2 2. Wiring For the purpose of the demo, you need to have a 220 Ohms potentiometer connected to the second input. This potentiometer will be used to simulate a drift on a thermocouple on the second analog input. Power Gnd Ohms L Output 1 L2/N Ohms potentiometer Input #1 Ethernet Communication 3. 3 5. Describe the operator interface (power on) A ) Self-Diagnostics : Upon power up, the controller checks itself for integrity ; informs of fault condition if present. Diagnostics continue in the background during operation. If failure is detected, the output goes to pre-configured failsafe value. B ) Display orientation. Describe the displays and indicators. Keep it simple. Use the sales specification as a reference material. C ) Keyboard Orientation. Describe the keys and their function. Security code prevents tampering. Digital input can prevent keyboard changes. 6. Demonstrate Controller Operation 6.1. Normal operation (Demonstrates Displays & indicators, Setpoints, Modes, Alarms) Start in Automatic mode SP= Push Lower Display to show parameters. SP, DEV, OUT values shown in lower display 2. Raise SP to 1600 PV Tracks new SP 3. Change mode to Man LWR Display shows output in % 4. Decrease Output PV=SP, Deviation, PV Decrease 5. Return Mode to AUTO Out value increases, DEV. 6. Turn the potentiometer At some point, the message TC Warn is displayed. The controller has detected that the thermocouple is drifting Key PAD Configuration The following are examples of modifications that you can make with the customer to demonstrate ease of UDC3200 configuration. An effective alternate approach is to demonstrate configuration of the customer s application Configure a local setpoint 1. Press Setup until «Control» group appears Controller is in configuration mode 2. Press Function until «LSP s» appear Ready to accept Local SP source 3. Press UP until «Two» appears Reconfigured for 2 local SP s 4. Press LOWER DISPLAY until «2SP» appears Ready to accept SP#2 value 5. Press UP until 2SP is set to 1000 SP#2 value entered 6. Press LOWER DISPLAY until «SP» appears Unit controlling at SP1 (1600) 7. Press SETPOINT SELECT to switch to 2SP Unit now controlling at 2SP (1000) Configure a PV high alarm 1. Press Setup until ALARMS appears Controller in Configuration mode 2. Press Function until A1S1TYPE appears Ready to accept the 1 st alarm type 3. Press UP until INPUT 1 appears 1 st PV alarm configured 4. Press Function until A1S1 VAL appears Define the alarm value. 5. Press UP or DOWN keys until 1200 is selected Alarm 1 will trigger at Press UP until A1S1 H L appears Ready to define a high or low alarm. 6. 4 Setpoints Configure a high Setpoint Limit 1. Press SETUP until «Control» appears Unit in Configuration mode 2. Press Function until «SP HiLIM» appears Ready for new SP limit value 3. Press UP until 2500 appears New SP limit entered (note if you can t raise the SP limit up to 2500, it might be because the input1 upper limit is restricting you. To change this, go to INPUT1>IN1 HIGH 4. Press LOWER DISPLAY Unit in operating mode 5. Press UP key to change SP to 2600 SP value will not exceed 2500 SP High limit 6.3. PC Configuration (through Ethernet) Note : version 1.01 or higher of the PIE tool is required to communicate with the UDC3200. Launch the PIE Software. Describe the 6 buttons that appear on the left bar. Explain the «communication type» line at the bottom of the display. Describe the «Operations» menu Describe the «Services>Export configuration» menu The PIE Configuration software is a basic, Multilanguage program that allows you to configure your UDC controller, Online or Offline. PC Comm. Setup Upload Offline configuration Download Online configuration Maintenance data Informs the user about the current interface the software will use to communicate. Same use as the 6 buttons on the left side. Export an existing configuration to a CSV file. This file format can be opened under Microsoft Excel. Highlight the fact that each box that appears contains a small contextual help explaining what the box does. Transfer a selected configuration to the Pocket PC or vice versa at next active synchronization. Manage the files stored on your PC : copy, delete, Rename, change the properties of a file. Describe the «Services>Transfer configuration» menu Describe the «Services>Manage configuration files» menu Describe the «Services>Export database» menu Along with Services >Import database, this feature allows you to generate a file so that you can send it through to GTS for example. GTS can review the configuration, make the necessary changes and send it back to you. At this point your customer will know the most important features of this tool. This tool is really easy to use. Connect the UDC3200 controller to the PC using the Ethernet port. Click on the Communication Setup button. Double click RS-485 Double click on Ethernet To avoid any problems, practice ahead to make sure the Ethernet addresses will work. This shows the different communication types available : Infrared, RS-485 and Ethernet. Highlight the fact that very little parameters have to be configured : only the port & the address of the device you want to communicate with. NO need to configure a baud rate, a number of bits, parity, The communication parameters are AUTODETECTED by the software. Make sure the address is correctly configured (this is the address of the controller)

5 Make sure the communication type (pull down menu) has Ethernet selected. Close the PC Comm Setup window Click on the upload icon Click on start When the upload is complete, save the file on your hard disk under the name demo Show to the customer some of the parameters of the database that have been uploaded. Click on Offline configuration Open the demo file Click on Alarms Save as the new configuration under demo1 Download it in the controller. Click on the button maintenance data Maintenance data has been uploaded Click on Offline configuration Open the demo1 file Modify one of the parameters Save as the new configuration under demo2 A new window appears The controllers database is uploaded. Your configuration is now stored and saved on your hard disk. If need be, it can be downloaded in another or the same instrument in a matter of seconds. Show the parameters to the customer Change Alarm2 SP1 Type to TC WARN Show to the customer that the modification made in the demo configuration is now in the controller. Change the potentiometer so that the message appears. Highlight the fact that the software is now communicating with the controller (lower right corner, the green arrow is moving) Go through and explain the different parameters that are displayed. Write down somewhere what modification you have done. You are now going to show/demo the Pocket PC application, prior to this, you are going to transfer the demo2 configuration just created in the PC to the Pocket PC. Click on Services>Transfer configuration Select the demo2 configuration Click Next then Transfer The list of configurations available appears in a new window At the next Active Sync, the demo2 file will be transferred from the PC to the Pocket PC Pocket PC Configuration (through IR) Leave the PC application working. Start the Configuration application on the Pocket PC. Click on the Menu item Click on Communication Setup Point the device on the controller and Click on upload. (Press a key on the controller to activate the IR port) Highlight the fact that the 6 icons are the same as the ones on the PC application A pull-up menu appears. Highlight the fact that the selections (operations/services/help) are exactly the same as the ones on the PC. Select IR as the communication interface. IR will appear in yellow on the bottom left of the screen. If communication fails, touch one the keys of the controller to wake the IR port up. Try again, if it still fails, ensure the IR is enabled in the communications group in the UDC. Try again, if it still fails, ensure that the Address is the same on both the Pocket PC and the UDC. Try again.

6 Click Cancel Click on Download Connect the Pocket PC to the PC and perform and Active sync. Click on Download Select demo2 & download it to the controller. The database is uploaded in the pocket PC in a matter of seconds. Highlight the in the list of configurations already in the instrument, demo2 is not present. Highlight the in the list of configurations in the instrument, demo2 is now present. Remind to the customer what modifications you had performed on the demo1 configuration Verify that the modification is now in the instrument. Give the Pocket PC to the customer and let him play with the software. He will realize how easy it is Additional demo Alarm 2 Setpoint 1 is set up to trip when the potentiometer is turned. You can configure the controller to send an when this appears. An application note explains how to do this.
