1 All About Me in HyperStudio (1) Open HyperStudio Next, Click on the New Stack choice in the HyperStudio Home Stack HyperStudio v3. HyperStudio v4. Addy will ask if you re sure... Click YES (or press the Return Key)

2 (2) From the Menu Bar at the top of the Screen Click on the TOOLS Hold down your Mouse and Drag the Tools to the left side of your blank card. (This takes a little practice but will save you lots of time later on!) Now try the same thing with the COLOURS (Remember to Click and Hold down the mouse in order to Drag the Colours down to the right side of your card) Now you re ready to start your stack!!

3 (3) Experiment with some of the Tools...Here s a Quick Guide: Browse Tool Use this tool to Click on the Buttons you make Selector Tools These let you trace around things to copy, paste, move and erase them Arrow Tool Use this when you want to change buttons, text or graphics Spray Can Paint Brush Eraser Line Tool Paint Text One way to write (but not always the best way) Magnifying Glass Zoom in with this Paint Bucket Pencil Shape Tools Eye Dropper Selects Colours (4) Try Writing your Name 2 Different Ways (a) With the Paint Brush (b) With the Paint Text Tool Hint: You can change the Font Size by Double Clicking on the T Remember you can Erase with the Eraser...just select it and click on what you want to rub out You can also Erase by tracing around something with any of the Selector Tools and pressing the Delete key on your keyboard

4 (5) Draw a picture of something you like 3 Different Ways (a) With the Paint Brush (b) With the Pencil (c) With any of the Shape Tools Remember you can use your Colour Palette to select a colour you like (6) Add Clip Art of things you like...here s how, Select Add Clip Art from underneath the File Menu Hint is the Keyboard Shortcut (Ctrl A on a PC) Addy asks where you d like to look for pictures... You want to get your picture from the Disk File... Click OK to continue

5 The choices are in Alphabetical Order (A-Z)...Scroll down to see all your choices Click Open to get the picture you d like Use the Selector Square (or the Lasso) to trace around the picture you want Click OK to place the picture into your stack The Picture appears on your card. By Clicking on it you can move it to wherever you d like on your page Notice the dotted lines... If you click on the corner of them you ll see a double arrow... You can make your picture bigger or smaller by dragging your mouse Congratulations...you ve added Clip Art (Of course drawing your own pictures is a wonderful way to express your interests too!)

6 (7) Time to Save!! It s a very good idea to save your stack as you re working...here s How Select Save Stack from under the File Menu is keyboard shortcut (Ctrl S on a PC) You ll see a screen that looks like this Type in your name in the box Then Click the Save Button (Your teacher may have special instructions about where to save your file) Hint: If you are working on a Macintosh adding.stk to your file name will allow your stack to open on a PC (8) Now that you know your way around...here s your assignment: Create a 5 Card All About Me Stack in HyperStudio Card 1: Title Page Card 2: Past (things you remember from when you were little) Card 3: Present (what you like and what you are like now!) Card 4: Future (what you want to be, where you want to live in 20 years) Card 5: Personal Page (art, poetry, writing - anything that reflects your interests) ****The Last Page Provides a more Detailed Framework of this Assignment***

7 (9) Making 5 Cards Open your first page and then Select New Card from the Edit Menu 4 times...this gives you a total of 5 Cards Hint: is the Shortcut (Ctrl N on a PC) (10) Moving Between Cards Select First Card from the Move Menu to get back to your Title Page You can also hold down the Command key (Ctrl on a PC) and the < and > keys to move forwards and backwards between your cards (11) Adding Text Objects Text Objects are great for when you re doing a lot of writing. It s like having a word processor inside your HyperStudio stack. You can edit, spell check and easily change fonts, sizes etc... Here s how Select Add a Text Object from under the Objects Menu A dotted rectangle will appear on screen...this is the Text Box You can move it by clicking on it and dragging it and you can also re-size it by clicking on the corners

8 As soon as you Click outside of the dotted lines (text box), this screen appears Click to change the Background Colour Click on Style to change the Font Type, Size and Alignment Click to change your Text Colour When you re happy with your choices click OK Now you can start typing! If you ever want to change anything in your text box, here s how: Select the Arrow Tool from the Tools Menu. Double Click on the Text Box you want to change Make your changes and Click OK Hint: To get rid of a Text Box just select the Arrow Tool, Click on the text box and press the Delete key

9 (12) Adding Buttons When you press a Button something happens. You will want to make Buttons to take you to and from each page of your stack. Here s how: This screen will appear: Go to your Title Page Select Add a Button from the Objects Menu Select A Button Type (the top 4 are ones you can see -choose one of thesethe bottom 4 are invisible) Type in the Name of your Button (ex. Past) Choose a Colour for the Name and Background Click OK when you re happy with your choices You will now see the Button you ve just made on your screen...you can click on it with your mouse to place it where you d like.

10 Once you re happy with where your button is placed, click your mouse away from it. The following screen will appear: Under Places to Go Select Another Card The following screen will appear: Click on the Arrow to go to your Past Card (The Card where you have typed in your information about your Past) Then click OK

11 As soon as you click OK the Transitions menu will appear It will look like this: Here you can choose what will happen when you go to the Past card You can adjust the speed of the transition and you can also preview what the transition will look like As soon as you click OK the following screen will appear: When you re happy with your choice click OK Click Done, because hey you re finished making a button!

12 You ll see your button on the screen Click on the Finger (aka the Browse Tool) to press your button! Hey COOL!! Now that you ve mastered making buttons...make one to go from your Title Card to each of your other Cards (Present, Future, Personal Page etc..) Don t forget to make a BACK button on each of your cards to take the person back to your Title Card Hint: To get rid of a Button just select the Arrow Tool, Click on the button and press the Delete key Hey, maybe this is a good time to SAVE!! is keyboard shortcut on a Macintosh (Ctrl S on a PC) (13) Changing a Button (ex. Adding a Sound) Maybe, you d like to add a sound to a button you ve already made...here s how : Select the Arrow Tool from the Tools Menu Then Double Click on the Button you d like to change On the next screen select the ACTIONS choice to go inside your button

13 Here s what you ll see: To add a sound click on the Play a sound choice under the Things to Do Menu You ll see a screen that looks like a Tape Recorder Scroll down here to see some of your sound choices...to hear what they sound like press Play To see many more sound choices, click on the Disk Library To Record your own voice, click on the Record Button When you re happy with the sound you ve chosen...click OK

14 The following screen will appear: Click Done and your button will now have sound! (or any other change you want to make!) (14) Checking over your stack Hey, you re all done...here s a few suggestions. Spell Check your stack Test each of your buttons by clicking on them Add some hand drawn illustrations to each card (use the Paint or Pencil tool) Add some other button actions (ex. animation, movies, New Button Actions) Get a classmate to go through your stack and make sure everything works Add a credits page where you acknowledge the people who helped you Make sure you ve saved your stack Hint: If you are working on a Macintosh adding.stk to your file name will allow your stack to open on a PC

15 Autobiography Framework CHILDHOOD Write a paragraph about each of the following topics: Birth Information Where and when were you born? How did your parents choose your name? Family Information Describe your family. How many people? What do they do at work or school or home? Earliest Memories Describe a vivid memory you have of a time when you were very young. Favourite Things What was your favourite toy or object to play with? Why was it so special? Proud/Embarrassing Describe something you did as a young child that you are either Moments really proud of or really embarrassed about. NOW Personality Virtues and Vices Activities/Interests I Believe statement List 5 adjectives that describe your personality. Explain why you chose each one. Explain your best characteristic (virtue) and your worst characteristic (vice). Describe your 3 favourite things to do in your spare time What do you think? Start your statement with I believe... FUTURE If I were to see you in 20 years...what would you be like? Appearance Describe what you think you will look like as an adult. Career/Education What will your job be? If you will still be in school what will you be studying? Living where? What city will you live in? What type of house/apartment will you have? Changes from now How else will you be different? Will your personality change? How about your interests? Will you still like the same things you did in Gr. 5? CREATIVE This is your personal page where you can express yourself in any way you choose. Some ideas include writing Poetry or Fiction. You could also include Art work, or Photographs of your life.
