1 MicroTest III Quick Reference Windows 95/98/NT Installation: 1. Insert the MicroTest III CD into your CD-ROM drive. 2. Follow the on-screen prompts to install. 3. MicroTest III has completed the installation process when the Set Up Complete prompt appears onscreen. Macintosh Installation: 1. Insert the MicroTest III CD into your CD-ROM drive. 2. Double-click on the CD icon when it appears on your desktop. 3. Double-click on the MicroTest III Installer icon and follow the on-screen prompts to install. 4. Click Quit when the installation process is complete. Create and Print a Test with Quick Start Launch MicroTest III by double clicking on the MicroTest III icon. When the Select MicroTest File dialog appears, click on the Quick Start button. On the Welcome to MicroTest dialog, click on the Create a New Test button.

2 Create and Print a Test with Quick Start (CONT.) The Quick Start dialog lets you create and print a test in 5 steps. Each step is displayed on the left and the action required for each step is shown on the right. Instructions are displayed at the top of each action item. Clicking on the? button will display additional help. A check mark appears by each step as it is completed. To move to the next step, click the Next button. To go to a previous step, click the Back button.

3 STEP 1. SELECT A QUESTION BANK Click on the Open Question Bank button to select an existing question bank. The Select a Question Bank to Open dialog displays. The question bank of test items for your textbook will appear in the list box. Click on the question bank and then click on the Open button. Click on the Next button to continue. STEP 2. NAME YOUR TEST Click on the Name Test button. The Name the New Test dialog displays, click inside the File name: text box and type in a file name for the test (example, PsychExam1-5). Click on the Save button. * Make note of test name and location of saved file. Click on the Next button to continue.

4 STEP 3. SELECT QUESTIONS FOR YOUR TEST Selection Options: Questions can be selected automatically and/or individually. MicroTest has two methods of automatic question selection: A. All, Odd or Even Numbered Questions in a Chapter The scrolling drop down window contains a list of every chapter in your textbook. Select a chapter by clicking on it. To select all, or just the odd or even numbered questions in the chapter, click on the Odd or Even, or All buttons. Click on the Clear button to start over within a chapter. If your test covers multiple chapters, choose another chapter from the scrolling window and repeat the step above.

Based on Your Selection Criteria Click on the Auto Select button Select the chapter or chapters you want by clicking on one or more and click on the OK button Enter the number of questions you want on your test in the Select: text box (upper left). Specify Criteria: Depending on the question bank supplied by your publisher, you have up to 3 options. (Check your text book s instructor guide for details.) Level of difficulty: You can choose questions that are <, >, or = to publisher supplied difficulty levels. Question Type: Include or exclude question types by clicking in the check box. (Check mark=include) Key Word: Highlight one or more publisher-supplied key words. Questions with those attributes will be selected for your test. Click on the Calculate button. The number of questions that meet your criteria will display. Click on the OK button. Click on the Next button to continue. Click on the Cancel button to start over.

6 STEP 3. SELECT QUESTIONS FOR YOUR TEST (CONT.) C. Individual Question Selection Click on the Manual Select button. The Select Question dialog displays. Select a chapter from the scrolling window. Click once on any of the numbered boxes to display that question. Double click on a box to select that question for your test (box is highlighted). Unselect by double clicking. The Select Questions dialog displays the number of questions in the chapter and the total number of questions you have selected for your test. Click on the Finished button. Click on the Next button to continue

7 STEP 4. CREATE A TEST HEADER Click on the Create a Test Header button to print instructions or other information about your test that you want your students to read. The Create Test Header dialog displays, click inside the header window and enter text. From the Print: pull down menu, select Print: On All Pages or Print: On First Page Only. Click on the Finished button. Click on the Next button to continue. STEP 5. PRINT YOUR TEST This dialog provides options for: Printing up to 15 versions by double clicking on each version number displayed in the scrolling window in the upper left Scrambling multiple choice question answers by clicking in the box Selecting a question print sequence by clicking the appropriate radio button Choosing to print an Answer Key and/or a Student Answer Sheet (and other options)

Previewing the test by clicking on the Preview button Printing your test by clicking on the Print button Clicking on the Cancel button will take you back to Quick Start Help!
