1 FIREWORKS TRICKS AND TIPS CS6 Here are some cool things you can do with Fireworks to create wonderful works of art! SHAPES AND EFFECTS Draw a shape with the shape tool. Fill with color. Change the line color. Look at the properties panel and look for FILTERS. Use the different choices for bevel and emboss, shadow and glow etc. CIRCLE SOME TEXT Draw a circle. Type some text. Shift>Click to choose both. Text>Attach to Path. Make the text even on top of the circle play with left justify, AV up and down arrow, A side to side arrow. Change text offset to 25. Choose Text>Convert to path. Filters>shadow and glow and drop shadow. Then KNOCK OUT This gives you the shadow, not the original text in a knocked out way. TRIM CANVAS SIZE This is a toughy once your object is ready, change the color of the canvas to the color of your web page if you like, then choose MODIFY>CANVAS>TRIM CANVAS or just choose TRIM CANVAS from the properties panel. MODIFY CANVAS COLOR MODIFY>CANVAS>COLOR WOW! MAKE FILE SIZE SMALLER You can make a fireworks file size smaller by choosing Modify>Flatten Selection this irons out the logo and all pieces are now as one piece. IMAGES File>Import will bring in an image to Fireworks. You can select the Image with the arrow tool, and then skew it or rotate it or crop it. You can add shapes and color and lines to it, and layer them. Get rid of the white background in images with the lasso tool, delete, or magic wand, delete. PUNCH OUT/UNION/JOIN/INTERSECT/GROUP Draw two shapes, shift click to select both, then choose modify>combine PATHS>PUNCH (or UNION/JOIN/INTERSECT/GROUP) Page 1 1/12/2015

2 TEXT TO A PATH Create a circle. Then create some text. Shift click to have both text and circle selected. Choose TEXT>Convert to Path so that the text follows the path of the circle. Work with the properties panel to get the text in the position you want centered at top, or bottom, or whatever. Place an image in the middle for a finished logo look (File>Import choose your image) MASK A PICTURE File>Import an image. Draw a shape (example, a circle) on it. Select the shape ONLY! Edit>Cut the shape. Select the image, and Edit>Paste As Mask. The image will now be in the shape of the shape! You can make a double shape two different shapes, group them together, and then you can do the same thing. Example: two interlocking circles next to each other, or make a cylinder with a rectangle and a circle top round the edges on the rectangle. MASK WITH TEXT This will put the picture in the shape of your letters! First, type your text. Choose a font style that is thick (like COOPER BLACK) so you will be able to see the picture inside the letters. Choose an image and bring it in. Click on the text with the arrow tool. Text>Convert to Path. Use the white subselect arrow tool to choose each letter you can change them in any way you like. Shift click to select each letter, and Then choose Edit, cut to cut out the text, not the image. Select the image. Make sure the image is over where the text used to be. Edit>Paste as mask and you will see your text as the image. GETTING RID OF THE WHITE BOXY BACKGROUND Select the lasso tool, outline the image, then, select the magic wand tool and delete the white background sections GRADIENTS AND TEXTURES Draw your shape and then choose textures. Also, you can change the solid fill to gradients/patterns etc. Page 2 1/12/2015

3 SHARING LAYERS ACROSS FRAMES In the Layers window click on the drop down options and then select Share Layers to States MODIFY TEXT Type in text, right click and convert to path. Now use the subselect tool to modify each character. ANIMATION Draw a shape, right click and choose animation, then animation selection. Adjust the number of frames, direction, scale etc. TO MAKE TEXT ANIMATED IN A CIRCLE SHAPE If you want text to circle an image, for example, do this. NOTE: this makes the text circle like a wagon wheel, it does not make the text travel along a path. 1. Draw the circle 2. Type text 3. Center your text around the circle 4. Shift/Click to select the text and the circle 5. Text>Attach TO path 6. Modify>Flatten Selection 7. Modify>Animation a. Rotate at 360 degrees the other settings stay the same 8. Make this animation in place by taking the red end of the cord and placing it on top of the green beginning of the cord. 9. Run and your text should turn in a circle! 10. Add your image or whatever else you want AFTER you have completed the steps above. CREATE LINKS/HOT SPOTS Page 3 1/12/2015

4 Use the rectangle hot spot tool (under web on the toolbar circle and polygon shapes available as well). Type in the url, alternate text and target. TO MOVE ONE OBJECT IN FRONT OF ANOTHER 1. Modify, Arrange, and then choose what you want CREATING A BUTTON 1. A button is a rollover that has up to four states. Each state represents a button s appearance in response to a pointer or click. 2. UP button is at rest before being clicked 3. OVER when the pointer is moved over the at rest button 4. DOWN the way a button looks after being clicked 5. OVER WHILE DOWN the way a button looks after being clicked and when the pointer is moved over it 6. Launch fireworks canvas size 400 pixels by 400 pixels 7. Draw the button. Add whatever look you want styles, etc. 8. Create text for the button 9. Select both the text and the shape (shift click) and MODIFY, GROUP 10. Make the button a symbol Right mouse click, CONVERT TO SYMBOL, name the button, and type is button. 11. Your button will have a slice over it. Double click the button to get to the BUTTON EDITOR. 12. You will see 4 states. The first state is the UP button, the second is the OVER, the third is the DOWN and the 4th is OVER WHILE DOWN. 13. Copy your first state to the second state. CTRL B to break apart the button, and then in the second state, Change the text, the look, the color, the glow, etc. Do NOT UPDATE THE OTHER STATES. 14. Fit to canvas. 15. Repeat for the other two states. F12 to see your button at work! Page 4 1/12/2015

5 EXPORTING IN FIREWORKS If it s a static piece simply choose File, Save If it s an animated piece choose File, Export Wizard, and go through the steps FINDING YOUR PANELS/WINDOWS If you are missing a panel/window go to Window and choose what you are missing. Page 5 1/12/2015
